2023.06.06 18:06 FoxxMD /r/MealTimeVideos will be LOCKED from June 12-14 in protest against Reddit's API changes which kill 3rd party apps. Here's how you can help
TLDR: Look for a mod post on June 12th and upvote it to spread awareness. What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app
permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from
Apollo to
Reddit is Fun to
Narwhal to
BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps this move by Reddit is the wrong way of addressing the shortcomings of its own apps and cuts off important functionality for communities:
- many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
- visually impaired reddit users depend on the quality of 3rd party apps to use reddit because the official apps fall short.
What's going to happen?
On June 12th,
many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away
permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because
we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the
goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
June 12th-14th you will not be able to make comments or submissions on MTV. Instead, we ask you to upvote and share the mod post that will be created for the protest (on June 12th). Please also voice your support and experience with 3rd party apps here, as this post will be linked in the protest post.
Why not go private?
We want to achieve maximum reach with this protest. Private subs do not show up in users feeds and the message shown for private subs does not show up on mobile and is truncated on new reddit. Keeping the sub public but locked, and with an artificially upvoted protest post, is the best way to reach all users in all feeds.
What else can you do?
- Complain. Message the mods of /reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
- Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
- Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
- Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

2023.06.06 18:05 Jasong222 MankindProject will be going dark on June 12-14 to protest Reddit killing 3rd party apps.
Hello everyone,
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
The Situation:
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. ('API Calls' are how apps get information from Reddit's main servers to present to you).
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface. In addition, many 3rd party apps offer functions for those differently abled, such as blind users, functions that do not exist in Reddit's official app.
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.

2023.06.06 17:59 pencil0815 Has anyone known or heard about I/T gr0u/p in/c. (I/T/G) Any thoughts? Please. Thanks.
I recently got a new JO from this company and it was pretty decent and sustainable especially now that I am a provider. (Single with senior parents)
- 25% raise from my current salary + nontaxable allowances that I am not getting from my current job.
- they are in a hybrid setup, but the office location is accessible compared to my current office.
I am trying to look for any reviews online but it seems that they don't have any negative feedback from previous or current employees. I hope anyone from this sub (hoping meron) can give feedback about their work environment to help me decide. Thank you in advance!

2023.06.06 17:46 totally_interesting What 170+ scorers do differently
Honestly not much. I think a lot of people look for quick tricks and fixes when there really aren’t any. Anyways, I’ve seen lots of general questions around the sub recently so here’s my opinion on how you can improve.
- Find a GOOD resource, not just Khan or Kaplan okay. I know they’re cheap. There’s a reason for that. They suck. I’ve been teaching for over 3 years now and I’ve never had a student from either of those resources that I haven’t had to completely reteach.
None of those massive tomb textbooks either. This isn’t the MCAT. There’s no reason in the slightest to have a book just about RC. It just overcomplicates the test.
A good resource will simplify things for you and won’t rely on complex logic. Logic is a fundamental part of the LSAT but there’s not much reason to master anything more complicated than basic logic.
- Master basic logic. You should know the argument forms that are always valid (modus ponens, modus tollens, and hypothetical syllogism), P->Q, P<->Q. If you know these things you’re good. You don’t need to bother with tautologies, contrapositives, and stuff like that. The LSAT is never more complicated than what I’ve described. In fact, if you’ve taken an entry level logic course, you probably know more than enough already.
- Practice efficient study. I never studied over 2 hours/day and I tell my students to do the same. Take 1 PT/2 weeks, 1 times section/day plus review, drill everything else with whatever time left/day.
Don’t blind review. Just go over the questions you got wrong.
- For the love of god don’t focus on speeding up. Don’t worry about time. Time comes with skill.

2023.06.06 17:45 PixelPlayerZero Am I applying for monetization correctly?
I recently hit the monetization requirements for YouTube (keep up the hard work, it's possible!) and I see there are 3 steps:
- Review/Accept Base Terms
- Link Adsense account
- Get Reviewed by YouTube
Now, I've done step 1 and seems to be stuck on step 2, at the moment. I'm not sure if there's more that I need to do? So, I already had an AdSense account created, and I linked that one. It took me to the AdSense page, entered info, had my YT Link attached, and submitted. Now, the status on the "Earn" page says "In Progress". Every video I've watched on this pretty much goes from "Link AdSense by clicking here" and then "Good, now you're done with this step and the next step is to be reviewed by YouTube".
None of the videos I watched mentioned a waiting period, so I'm wondering if I missed a step when linking AdSense? Or, am I supposed to wait for some time for it to be linked?
I'm happy to provide more details if necessary. Thanks!

2023.06.06 17:45 compound-interest Now that every company has played their hand, here are my predictions where each new headset will fall into the market
Right now, I am daily driving 2 headsets: G2 and PSVR2. I own a Quest 2, CV1, Go, and the last 2 GearVRs.
Here is my opinion of who each upcoming headset is for:
Quest 3 - Fans of Quest 2 that want an upgrade. I think I will recommend people see if VR is for them with a Quest 2 first. Since they are dropping Quest 2 back to $299, I think used ones will be down to $199. Maybe Walmart will have the refirb black Friday sale again for like $199-249.
I expect Quest 3 pancake lenses will be a nice clarity bump, and I think the upgrade is worth $200 more, but some people buy VR and stuff it in a closet forever. In summary, Quest 3 is a reasonable upgrade for people who have tried and love standalone VR, and don't want to get a PC, or deal with a wire. Wireless PC gaming is valid, but I am personally not a fan of the compression.
I really don't mind the wire, and that's why I haven't used Quest 2 since December when I got my G2. It will be interesting to compare Quest 3 large sweet spot of clarity to G2. I expect the G2 to still be an overall better package for PCVR. Imo this comparison is still important, because we need to know the best PCVR headset around $500 USD. I am going to be really surprised if Quest 3 exceeds G2, because what I have heard about Quest Pro doesn't (I haven't tried Quest Pro so I can't speak to that).
The G2 still holds a candle to the Beyond according to recent through the lens comparisons, which still makes it the go-to entry level PCVR headset for at least another year or so imo. I haven't really heard of a PCVR headset coming that's going to cost around the price of Quest 2. It's a shame that Meta refuses to sell a SKU of Quest 3 with uncompressed Link at higher margin to the 20% of their users that use SteamVR, but I digress.
Bigscreen Beyond - PCVR enthusiasts that want a headset specifically made for maximum comfort, clarity, and compatible with the best tracking system available for VR. One thing I really like about Beyond is that they are taking their disadvantage of being a small company and turning it into an advantage. What I mean by that is I think they are actually making a product that a huge company like Meta couldn't make. I don't think Meta can reasonably sell a headset right now with a custom facial interface. It would be a nightmare to try to ship 20 million Quests all with a different facial interface. The custom interface will make a huge difference.
Not only that, but the yields and price of oled micro displays are not ready for a product with Quest sales volume. Meta are constrained by battery, mobile processing, etc that all add weight to the device. It will be a very long time before they can make a device as small and compelling as Beyond in a standalone form factor, with enough scale for it to make sense for them. All those sacrifices just to avoid a wire and the need for a PC.
If I could make an analogy, there is a director named Matt Johnson that turns his independent films into an
advantage rather than a disadvantage. He knows big movie studios can't make films with the crazy plots he comes up with so rather than trying to do what the big guys do but worse, he makes stuff that
only small directors can make. Bigscreen is essentially doing that, but for VR headsets.
Bigscreen's headset is literally right at the edge of the current display port standard, which is why the full resolution requires display stream compression at 90hz. All that and in a tiny form factor with pancake lenses? I just think they are making all the right decisions. I'm not trying to shill for them, but this is the first time since CV1 that I feel like one company is making the exact headset I want.
Apple Vision Pro - Developers and professionals with a very specific niche use-case. This is a first generation headset that Apple feels meets their minimum bar. I think this headset will have 2 positive effects on the market as a whole:
- Supply chain. I think their demand for the components in this headsets will cause more attention to be brought to manufacturing various components. Off-the-shelf parts will become bettecheaper sooner than they would have without Apple's entry.
- Public perception. VR will become slightly more accepted and normalized than it was before. This may also lead to more companies testing the water of VR hardware, especially if Google gets their shit together and makes a platform that hardware venders can take advantage of. Kinda like WMR but standalone. It would be pretty cash money if one of those chose to make a headset that actually tethers to a PC like the Pico 3 Link did...
One thing I have noticed about various communities online is people have trouble imagining the use-case that others might have. I used to get downvoted for enjoying Go so much when it came out. Sometimes I take it out and am just amazed at how inexpensive and compelling it was. I used to hang out in Bigscreen almost like VRC and just chat with others about movies and shit. It was a surprisingly good experience for the price because of how lightweight it was.
The Apple headset is in the opposite side of the price spectrum, but still has the issue of not fitting into what most people currently using VR want. If you can't imagine a use case for it, it's not for you. If reviews come out and it is genuinely a great professional tool that does a few things better than
any other professional hardware, I am thrilled about that. I
hope that happens, because then instead of a 3-4k laptop, my work can get me one of these. I could see the Apple Vision Pro being excellent for certain design applications, certain video workloads, and certain modeling workflows. I will wait for reviews on it, and I find it to be an interesting market entry.
Finally, I am interested to see if all this new hardware makes a dent on the open web. That's a whole separate discussion, but I think it's interesting to imagine the future of the web if the headsets have enough clarity that a ton of people use it that way.

2023.06.06 17:45 thockin r/kubernetes will join the blackout on June 12th-14th in protest of Reddit's API changes, which will kill 3rd party apps
What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill approximately ALL third-party mobile apps, destroying many great features which are not available in the official app.
On May 31, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the

This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.

On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away indefinitely unti/unless the issue is addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.

2023.06.06 17:43 evoturtle SIB Diablo 4 or RE4
So ive never really played any diablo game, except maybe for an hour in d3 with a buddy. Its never really grabbed my attention but i think the hype is getting to me, and visually it does look very cool!
I love putting together builds and min/maxing and this seems to be right up my alley but the more 'endgame footage' i see, it actually seems sort of repetitive and slow? Also the recent blizzard events make me skeptical.
On the other hand i loved the Resident Evil 2 remake and everyone always said Resident Evil 4 was the best, which i havent played that either, but all the reviews of the remake seem to reiterate that.
Essentially im drawn to diablo 4 for making builds and pouring hours into specializing and testing, and of course the possibility of couch co op, but... im skeptical, meanwhile im sure re4 will be worth my time, so if theres any additional input that i might not have heard yet to help my decision, id be appreciative!

2023.06.06 17:42 MissFrijole Hospital Bill scam
I am fairly certain this is a scam, but I feel like I should share it, in case anyone else gets something similar.
I received a text message that looked legitimate, coming from a medical clinic telling me I have a bill I need to pay (in a state I done live in or near.) There was a link and a phone number in the message. I did not click the link, but I went to the URL in my browser. The website is legitimate and I entered my phone number in the login, but the next window asked for a statement number, which I obviously didn't have because I never visited this hospital.
I did a search of the contact phone number and reviews of it said it was some woman calling people asking to speak to someone else about billing. They were vague, but that raised a red flag. Then I searched the number that actually sent the text message and it was not associated with anything related to the content of the text and had a different area code.
Two weeks later, I got a reminder text of this bill with the same URL and billing phone number.
I have blocked the number, but I haven't reached out to the clinic to find out if someone stole my numbeidentity, or if it's a scam. I'm fairly certain this is a scam to get money out of me. I don't live anywhere near the clinic and haven't had any procedures done recently.
If anyone receives something similar, be sure to investigate!

2023.06.06 17:42 purpleonionz Should I stop trying to conceive while I wait for biopsy?
Hello! I'm new here and hoping this isn't too dumb of a question...
My husband and I are trying to conceive (TTC) and recently I had a thyroid ultrasound that resulted in the recommendation for a biopsy. It is taking forever to get the biopsy appointment scheduled. I'm told the endocrinologist reviews everything before the office reaches out to schedule. My referral was marked "priority" which is second to "urgent" but before "non urgent" I guess. Seems it could take a couple months before I have biopsy results.
Looking for opinions on whether I should stop TTC while I wait for the biopsy. I'm including my ultrasound results below. For further context, I'm 37 (so a bit on the older side for pregnancy!) so frankly I am in a hurry...but obviously do not want to compromise my health overall as I already have one kid I need to stick around for!
COMPARISON: No prior studies are available within the Epic record. Prior neck CTreports the largest nodule as being 12 mm in 11/26/2022. TECHNIQUE: Two-dimensional real-time grayscale ultrasound. For example, if the student is interested in history, they can search for history podcasts that cover different time periods and events. When it comes to finding podcasts related to a more specific subject, such as for an illustration essay, students can search for interviews with professional illustrators or discussions on different illustration techniques.
- Check the format: Different podcasts use different formats, such as interviews or lectures. Choose the one that suits the student's learning style. If the student prefers a more conversational approach, they can choose a podcast that features interviews with experts in the field. If the student prefers a more structured approach, they can choose a podcast that features lectures or presentations.
- Read reviews: Check reviews from other listeners to see if the podcast is engaging, informative, and high-quality. Reviews can provide valuable insights into the quality of the podcast and whether it is worth the student's time. Students can also ask their peers or teachers for podcast recommendations.
- Consider the length: The length of a podcast can vary greatly, from a few minutes to several hours. Students should consider their own schedule and attention span when choosing a podcast. If they have a short attention span, they may prefer shorter podcasts that can be easily consumed during a break or commute. If they have more time, they may prefer longer podcasts that delve deeper into the subject matter.
- Look for podcasts with additional resources: Some educational podcasts offer additional resources such as transcripts, study guides, or links to further reading. These resources can be helpful for students who want to delve deeper into the subject matter.
- Consider the podcast's tone: Some podcasts may be more serious and academic in tone, while others may be more lighthearted and entertaining. Students should consider their own preferences and the tone that will best engage them.
What Qualities Make an Educational Podcast Relevant to Education? The best educational podcasts are those that go beyond simply providing information and engage listeners in a meaningful and memorable way. They use storytelling, humor, and relatable examples to make the content more accessible and entertaining. In addition to this, they also provide a unique perspective on the topic at hand, which makes the listener curious and interested in learning more about it. Why does this matter to us and where do we stand? Speaking for myself as a long time reddit user, mod and developer, this is just the latest of a series of actions that have been slowly killing what used to make this place better and different from the others social media platforms. Our subreddit is very niche and although we are not the smallest we are also not the biggest compared to others.
However due to the nature of this subreddit we have for long benefited from a series of services and bots that use directly or indirectly the reddit api. And this is exactly one of the things that have made this place special and enjoyable to so many, for now we are in the "safe" and the main features of our dear -Firekeeper-, -Melina and others should not be affected, furthermore at best the future is uncertain, the Admins have said that our capabilities should still continue just as they are, but between they saying these things and they keeping their words well that's just for another day.

A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th,
many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action. What can you do as a user?
Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join the coordinated mod effort at /ModCoord.
What can you do as a moderator?
Thank you for your patience in the matter, -Mod Team /SummonSign && /BeyondTheFog footnote:
I hope you guys can understand and join us.
May the Sun shine for another day \`[T] /
