Firstly, I would like to thank you all for voting ,commenting, and sharing your opinions on my previous post. That has really helped me in not only going ahead and trying to attempt and do the whole quick review / recap thing, but also to go ahead with a lot of renewed curiosity, interest, and energy into the series (and also hopefully try and NOT go into the "burnout" mode in the whole process of doing so).
Anyways, but before starting the above mentioned thing though, I would like to address a couple of things based off my personal overall experiences on certain stuff... way before I went ahead and picked up GOTM.
Please note that a few things have already been briefly mentioned in my previous posts and comments, but I wanted to elaborate on certain aspects of it, and even to provide some context to some of the things.

These are some of the main and common things that I found out while searching for what the series was all about. Some resources describe the series in a more positive way, whereas some in a more less than positive way (negative is probably not the right word here I feel, cuz the resources are telling you why you should pick it up in the first place, rather than not to) -

Anyways, but before starting the above mentioned thing though, I would like to address a couple of things based off my personal overall experiences on certain stuff... way before I went ahead and picked up GOTM.
Please note that a few things have already been briefly mentioned in my previous posts and comments, but I wanted to elaborate on certain aspects of it, and even to provide some context to some of the things.
How MBOTF / Malazan is sold to a brand new reader like me around the internet -
These are some of the main and common things that I found out while searching for what the series was all about. Some resources describe the series in a more positive way, whereas some in a more less than positive way (negative is probably not the right word here I feel, cuz the resources are telling you why you should pick it up in the first place, rather than not to) -
- The series is very long, in fact one of the longest out there wrt fantasy / word count, and that it's still not complete. MBOTF is done (with 10 BIG books) by SE, but the 'Malazan World' as a whole has a lot more to offer, including NOTME by ICE (again completed; with 6 books), two prequels series, one sequel series, and a bunch of novellas. And there are more books on the way! So spending the time and energy for this is the reader's personal choice.
- It is also probably the most complex / challenging series out there. So start at your own risk. Especially if you're new to fantasy or haven't read too much stuff before. Also, you will not understand everything, SE doesn't spoon feed the readers in any way. So if you're into it, then only go for it.
- Not for everyone's taste too. That it tackles certain aspects in a much "rougher way" (violence, sexual assault, etc.), and that the author doesn't pull any punches in doing so. As long as one is able to manage their emotions wrt this, it will be OK. Otherwise, not for the faint hearted so as to speak.
- The writing / prose is pretty good, but again, not for everyone. It can get very confusing and difficult at times. Can also get too much philosophical at times, and as the series progresses, some of the books tend to drag on a bit. And the major underlying themes concerned are compassion, pain, grief, suffering, etc.
- The characters, although some very well written, do not quite come out as the best in the genre (writing wise). There are too many characters' POV to follow, and that can be challenging to say the least.
- It is more of a military fantasy in a way, involving multiple battle sequences, strategies, etc. and if you like wars, armies, magic, assassins, thieves, fantasy creatures, amazing places, some cool OP characters, even gods themselves getting involved in a much bigger game, you should definitely go for it.
- The worldbuilding is top class though, and the journey throughout is well worth all your efforts in the end. Many even stating that this right here is the most epic and best fantasy series they have ever read!
- Lastly, that GOTM is THE hardest of the bunch wrt everything. The writing, plot wise, character wise, understanding wise, etc. I f you can manage to push through it, you'll be able to get on pretty well. Also, to judge if the series is made for you or not, go through AT LEAST the first three books of MBOTF. If then you're into it, it's definitely for you. If not, you should probably consider dropping it.
Factors that led me to start the Malazan Book of the Fallen -
Now, since the turn of the year, I've been greatly influenced by certain factors that propelled me into starting this journey - (in no particular order really)
- Malaztube / Booktube / Youtube - I know there are quite a few number of people out there who make some really good content wrt Malazan, but the following were the ones that I personally was hugely inspired by (again, in no particular order) - Matt's Fantasy Book Reviews, Iskar Jarak, Andy Smith, The Fantasy Nuttwork, Mike's Book Reviews, Daniel Greene, Petrik Leo, CREEDER, etc. [NOT promotional in any way btw]
- Artworks / Fan arts / Cover designs / Other graphical representations - These were genuinely the things that pushed me into starting the series even further. Some really beautiful and amazing stuff present out there, without question. Makes you want to read it for yourself, to experience it first hand!
- Articles / Posts / Websites / Other online resources - There's a TON of stuff out there, in-depth / detailed to such an extent that you wouldn't deem possible. All that and then some. Whatever you need, it's there. The amount of dedication, effort, and analysis for this series made me realize that it was certainly more than special, and again, gave me that final push needed.
- This sub right here - No cap / sugar coating in any way. I've been following / reading the posts and the comments since the past 2-3 months from afar, and was really surprised to see a well balanced community. Also was able to check out the various resources, related sites, and the reading companions, which again, strengthens the fact that there's so much great content and info. present out there thanks to the efforts of many people. So keep it up and kudos for that! The only slight disappointment for me was that the number of Bonehunters present were/are just a little bit lower than what I expected. Hopefully many more recruits on the way! But hey, quality over quantity, as they say!
Some VERY important advice for all the new readers out there -
I absolutely had to post this, no doubt. Especially with my personal experience, I find it a kind of motivation to try and help / stop this from happening to the brand new audience. - TOTALLY AVOID THE BACK COVERS / SYNOPSIS! - Two major spoilers were ruined for me while doing this. Now, I get that you are looking to know what is happening and what not, but avoid this. Maybe just go for the GOTM one since it'll be your first book to pick (even though you'd still be wondering WTH is going on and why), but that's all. No more. Rather go for Malaztube / Booktube / Youtube content which has non spoiler stuff. Those are very well explained, and won't spoil anything for you. Rather will make the basic gist of the series pretty clear so you can directly hop on the wagon. Lots of channels to choose from as well. Even some of the articles / websites will do the same for you (hoping you avoid clicking where you shouldn't be clicking in the first place!).
- AVOID GETTING INTO THE ARTWORK / FAN ART TRAP! - Now, I'm not saying this in a negative way, of course not. There are some gorgeous, amazing artworks out there, especially fan arts. But make sure you only go through the ones with a NO SPOILER tag / label. Otherwise, don't even glance at it. Some artists / fans don't have the tags or labels on their personal pages / bios. So watch out. I have unfortunately received one of the biggest possible spoilers while doing this. So tread carefully. You have been warned!
- ARTICLES / WEBSITES / OTHER ONLINE RESOURCES - There are really some GREAT stuff out there about Malazan (I really can't help but stress this point even more). But one wrong click, and chances are you might get spoiled, like I did. So again, only go for the NON SPOILER stuff.
- ABOUT THIS SUB - There's a reason there are multiple, well defined flairs present here. So out of curiosity and excitement, DO NOT click on any of the spoiler posts, let alone the comments. Even then, the spoiler part is covered by a grey patch. DO NOT click on it if you don't want to get spoiled. Things I've been personally guilty of, but luckily, didn't spoil anything major as such.
Anyways, so yeah, that's pretty much it from my perspective.  | First, I recognize that this is a bit of a ridiculous watch. But it had such a great color (look at that red!) and I'm a sucker for FF designs I thought I'd give it a try. Regarding the brand name, it's definitely awkward, but I read that "Hruodland" is an old high German version of the name "Roland", who was a legendary Frankish hero. It's also my grandfather's name, so it gets a bit of a pass from me. submitted by RoSpectre to ChineseWatches [link] [comments] I could definitely do without the "Commitment Ocean" label -- it sounds like the place your girlfriend takes you to hold your head under water until you propose. It is of course the trademark-dodging rework of Blancpain's "Ocean Commitment" charity, which benefits ocean conservancy via the sale of the limited edition watch that Hruodland has homaged here. They should have just done the globe picture with no text on this dial, or put the WR number there. So how's the quality? Mostly hits with a few misses. Overall the finishing is very good. Shape and polishing are excellent. I love the bowl shape of the case, which helps it wear well because the case slopes inward to a 37mm diameter, down from 41mm at the bezel. Hands and dial look flawless, and the date wheel is color matched dark red. Bezel action is OK... a bit of side to side play and the clicks are a bit plascticky, comparable to Seikos I've used. The crown action is the biggest let down. The crown is a bit crooked and wobbly when unscrewed and is very hard to screw back down... it tends to cross thread very easily. The clasp unfortunately must be an off the shelf design, because it is too tall and clearly made to accommodate thicker links. The engraving on it isn't bad but it's just basic lasering, same with the caseback. The PT5000 is excellent in this watch -- maybe just lucky but it's running at +1spd and despite the crown being a bit slippery, the movement feels smooth to wind and setting the date and time feels good as well. Since Hruodland is modifying these with the colored date wheel I wouldn't be surprised if they are calibrating the movements a bit, too. So is it worth the money? These watches come at a premium, which makes sense when things like the sapphire bezel and custom colored date wheel cost extra to make. The case is very well executed, too. Overall, if you like the design, it's a decent buy if you get it during a sale, and there aren't really any other options for this design on the market. But the dodgy clasp, bad crown wobble and screw down, and mediocre bezel action are a bit of a let down. If you're tired of Rolex and Tudor clones, though, give this one some thought! |

 | We all know stories about alligators lost under water, which really happend, what creates a spooky legend "alligator hunt is so hard because they are gone under water". Yes, technically it is possible to lost them under water because this is how the game is designed, how alligators "dive and hide" mechanic is designed. However there is a huge BUT. submitted by berdel__ to reptilesofCOTW [link] [comments] My beginnig of alligator grind was hard as spooky legend says - losing gators under water, must hit neck or head. I was trying, exploring, taking that pain, taking my lessons, analysing and planing how to make things just easier. After some time I got all pieces together and got a new concept how to try grinding them and not to lose them under water. Now, when I'm absolute in love od grinding them, after over 1700 kills, I have a lot of arguments and final conclusions, which can denify a lot of problems and mistakes of most of players trying hunt gators. The same mistakes and problems with I had to deal and which I did. There was no easy way out on beginnig. It can be unpopular opinion, annoying one, making some ppl salty, but we have to say it loud - losing alligators under water is mainly an effect of bad shot placement. I don't care what kind of shot - gator hunt don't tolerate bad shots. Bad head or neck shot which don't instant kills is bad shot, bad shot at lungs, which ends in leg or not in lungs is mess. If you can't take perfect shot on gator, you are taking NO SHOT - that's all. Your job is to make everything to get to place and time for perfect shot. End of story. Of course we can blame the game about allowing that kind of problem. So of course, reason is not bad shot, reason is, because gators can be gone under water, right? Just let us hit them like we want, no matter good or not, let us make them complete mess and please give me my gator from water back.. Is this the way? This game mechanic should be not working like that but even if it is what it is there is possibility to hunt them efficient with fun and with no problems. And this mechanic makes gator hunt 'easy to start but hard to master' and gators as animal 'easy to hit but hard to get'. Which is something special in COTW. It is absloute another level and world of hunting compare to white tails or any other ground animal. As I wrote - I killed over 1700 gators. My way is to (only) lung shots. In my opinion neck and head shooting is only a space for making huge mistakes (specially on very long ranges), letting them reach the water and losing them there. Because WOUNDED AND SLOW DYING ALLIGATOR WILL BE ALMOST ALWAYS A UNDER WATER LOST ALLIGATOR. But - perfect hitted gator is not a lost one. The reason is here how deep are waters on hunting spots. If they have to much time to dive and reaching the deepest spots, they will be gone - that's the reason why bad shots giving them time to dive that deep (more details in my YT video). Now, why am I mentoning my number of kills? Because I let all alligators run in water! I even want them run in water to easier collecting them! I have absolutely no stress about gator in water. So far I lost ONLY 45 (saying my newest notes) gators under water. 10 of them because I really lost them even with beeing sure spot is safe or low risk. But just think about it - 10 of 1700. It is marginal. 35 of them were lost because I was lazy - there were just bad shots or I just could do more to avoid their reaching the very worst spots. For example - in near of 'black hole' spot I could take (last chance solution) neck shot or just make more effort for double lungs. But no - I was lazy and took bad shot and I was not angry or suprised it was lost. Or I just kill them 'anyhow' - you know, grinding right on some days. So, after all that kills and taking gators from water (aside some hundreds killed on ground on short ranges) I got some experiences where you can lose gator under water and where not. And I give you that knowledge on a plate to stop talking all over "yOu haVe tO lOsT gaToR unDEr WaTeR". Because you don't have. KEEP in mind - this map will be working like that only if gator dies in the marked point after a one perfect vital shot. Hurting them, messing them up, machine gunning them will not making this map works. And I'm thinking about guns with class 4-8 ammo and 4-9 ammo like M1 or zarza .308. (in case someone is planning to rush gators with ranger or solokhin - no, it will not work) The colours of spots*:

Is there a way to actually cure dyssynergic defecation or am I stuck with it for life?
I am a 23 y/o male and believe I am dealing with dyssynergic defecation and a hypertonic pelvic floor. For years now I have been dealing with bowel movements where it comes out normally but then it feels like my muscles are too tight and prevent the rest from completing a full bowel movement. I basically never feel like I fully finish a bowel movement which leads me back to the restroom several times throughout the day. It also leads to a really uncomfortable tenesmus-feeling. I had a colonoscopy performed recently and everything came back normal and in result finally got me into a colorectal office. They agree with me that they think it may be dyssynergic defecation so I will be getting an anal manometry and defecography test in the near future. If these tests find something is there even anyway to cure the issues? They say there is possible surgery and I always hear about PT and biofeedback but it seems like these treatments never actually cure anyone based off the posts on here.
I live an active lifestyle, workout 5-6 days a week, eat plenty of fiber and only drink water, but unfortunately these symptoms just won’t go away.

(Please note i am a newcomer to 40k lore so feel free to tell me if I got anything wrong) I believe the main problem with perturabo ascending isn’t the fact that he became a daemon primarch but more so the fact that he is a daemon prince of chaos undivided, problem is the chaos gods are somewhat apprehensive about undivided daemon princes after belakor betrayed them and nearly won. It makes sense for them to trust lorgar since he is so devout to the chaos gods and the warp in general but perturabo explicitly hates the chaos gods and isn’t a very trustworthy guy all things considered, my idea is that perty made a deal/contract with vashtorr but didn’t become a daemon prince of vashtorr since vashtorr isn’t powerful enough have his own daemons (yet) but instead became so enhanced with cybernetics that he is almost on the same level as a daemon primarch and in return for the arkifane saving his life he does favours for him every once in awhile. I feel like this could explain how he survived what fulgrim did to him without any plot holes. What do you guys think?

So for the longest time I always told myself I wanted to be financially stable when I have kids( I’m 26) I currently work part time at a gas station and I am stressing a whole lot about my finances…. I’m due in a couple months. September. Everybody says the mother instinct is going to kick in after I have her and that I will always find a way to make it… but I get that ok… I totally 100% get that so I wish people would stop throwing that in my face when I UNDERSTAND FULLY. I’m just stressed about the now….. I barely make anything and it’s killing me to know that I’m going to have to struggle when I have my baby as well. Cause obviously I’m struggling now… any advice cause like 😭😑

I nervously clicked my claws against the wooden table as I waited for the rest of the invitees to arrive. The UN had brought me to the senate building privately so as to not cause panic, and I was grateful. I only hoped that the people whom I was going to be working with wouldn’t freak out at my appearance.
The war against the Federation and the subjugation of the Arxur by the Dominion had ended shortly after my birth, but the effects of the past few centuries of conflict could not be eliminated in such a short amount of time. Societal ideals have to be rewritten over long stretches of time by strong people with strong will, and there simply hasn’t been enough time to do so. As a result, though it has been many years since the last battle against the Arxur, it was still uncommon to see any outside of the space they already inhabited, and still VERY common to see hatred and fear of us among Fed species. It has always been my ultimate goal to show those who fear us just how similar we are, that is why I sacrificed everything to attend the Meiers Institute of Knowledge.
On the Arxur’s side of the societal coin, it was social suicide to interact with “prey” species willingly. [Oh how I hate that word.] Most of the elders of our society could not get over their hatred of the Federation species, despite the fact that they were under just as much, if not MORE subjugation than we were. When I made the decision to go and learn at MIK, I was shunned from all social groups at home. Not that there even were many, most Arxur rarely interacted with each other if they could help it.
MIK was a chance for me to experience new ideas and try new things. For once, I wasn’t discriminated against because I had front-facing eyes and scary teeth, and I learned just how much I loved socializing with like-minded people. I was finally allowed to let my love for knowledge flourish in a way that other Arxur would never have condoned. I graduated some time later with several degrees and a doctorate in paleontology.
Though to some, the idea of digging up bones and putting them together like a puzzle seemed macabre, it felt liberating to me. I felt like I truly understood the value of life and death. I could look at the cracked tooth of an ancient ancestor of the Arxur or the fossilized chitin of one of the Tilfish’s predecessors and identify a pattern, showing the divergent evolution they underwent to achieve their current form. I could see the similarities all life inherently had. Sometimes the similarities between us were shocking, and occasionally it was kind-of scary, but that only made me more passionate about my work.
I assume that is why the UN decided to send me a job offer 3 weeks ago. When I received it I was ECSTATIC at the prospect. The UN government sending ME, a small-time nobody Arxur paleontologist, an invitation to work with them? If I could tell my past self what I would be up to now, I would almost certainly scoff at myself. Even as I boarded my UN funded private ship to Aafa I was subconsciously wondering if it was some elaborate prank. My thoughts were interrupted as I heard footsteps from the other side of the door. This is it, I’m about to meet my partners, please don’t run away screaming.
A human, a venlil, and a gojid stood in the doorway staring at me. The gojid seemed slightly fearful but hid it well, the human and venlil however just seemed confused. [Okay, okay, they didn’t scream at me. That’s a good start.] The three, along with their escort, settled into chairs at the table I sat at, looking at me expectantly. I straightened my posture and prepared myself mentally to greet them. “H-hi, my name is Tassak. Are you the other three invitees?” The human sitting across from me spoke. “Yes. I hope I don’t offend by saying this but I wasn’t expecting an Arxur invitee.” He raised an eyebrow as he ended his sentence. He quickly started talking again, probably to try and explain his reasoning. “Sorry, I-I mean, don’t the Arxur frown upon interacting with “prey” species?” The venlil and gojid looked at me as I thought of a response. “Yes, they do. I had to cut a lot of ties to get into this profession. Let’s get introductions out of the way please.” “Alright, my name is James. I’m 31 years old. I was born on Earth and now live on Venlil prime. I went to MIK to become a historian. My diet is mainly coffee but occasionally I drink coffee as a treat.” The man smiled as he awaited our amusement, but it never came. James’ smirk faded and he coughed into his hand before continuing. “I was invited along with my friend Lemva, she’s the venlil next to me, and Cayek, he’s the gojid to your right.”
I exhaled quietly, James seemed friendly enough. “My name is Tassak, as I said before. I’m 29. I got a doctorate in paleontology at the Meiers Institute of Knowledge, along with some other degrees. I hail from Wriss I currently live on Earth.” As I finished my statement, I couldn’t help but criticize the way I spoke. [Why did I talk so rigidly, ughhh! My first impressions are going terribly!] James spoke up. “Wait, did we all come from MIK? Weird coincidence huh?” I could tell he was trying to ease the tension in the room. “I thought I would’ve noticed a giant lizard guy walking around campus.” Wait, did he call me a guy? “Uh, I’m a girl, actually.” I spoke timidly. The man before me became as red as a fresh cut of steak. His embarrassment was plainly visible, which I found amusing, it lessened my anxiety slightly.
The venlil that James had referred to as Lemva spoke up, changing the subject. “Weelll… Anyhow, my name is Lemva as James told you. I’m 30 years old. I’m an archaeologist and got my doctorate from MIK. My current home is on Earth but I’ve lived a little bit of everywhere. Me and James have been friends for a long time, we met in the institute’s history club.” Everyone focused their attention onto Cayek as Lemva’s introduction concluded. It took several seconds for him to compose himself. I could tell that my presence was uncomfortable for him, and him being seated closest to me of the three people probably exacerbated that feeling. I didn’t blame him for his fear, but it still stung a little. He gulped and started talking.
“My name is Cayek. I’m a 41 year old linguist who also went to MIK for my doctorate. I was born on the Cradle, was taken in at a young age by the UN after it got bombed, and was offered a home in one of the cities constructed by the Cradle Re-colonization Project, where I now live.” The man stopped talking and I thought he was done, but he straightened his posture and started speaking again. “I just want to get this out of the way before it causes trouble later down the line.” He spoke with a sigh. “I was born in a… you could call it a “hostile” household. My family raised me during a time when hate against… “people who were different” was acceptable. My upbringing cemented a couple habits into me that I’ve been trying to chip away at, so to speak, ever since I saw the sheer good that mankind is capable of. I’ve been attempting to be more open to new ideas ever since. Hell, I even took the anti-cure and tried some-” He gulped. “-non-herbivore cuisine, to get some perspective. So if I accidentally say or do something offensive to you please tell me, I truly want to leave that part of me behind.” As he ended his speech, he slouched and let out a breath he had been holding in. I was surprised by his honesty.
James and Lemva both processed the information. I responded first. “Thank you. You have no idea how much anxiety dropped off my shoulders just now. I was worried you’d all run away at first sight of me or treat me like some bloodthirsty beast. I very much appreciate the effort you’re putting into reforming.” James spoke after me. “I appreciate it too. After all these riots it’s such a breath of fresh air to meet a person that won’t cry if I look at them.” In the past 10 minutes, this man had crammed in jokes at any time he could. I think I’m gonna like him. I could tell that the joke came from a place of sadness though, I could see the sadness in his eyes.
James started to look impatient, he tapped his fingers on the table in a rhythmic pattern while he checked his holopad for the time. “I thought we were here for a job offer. How long is this gon-” The sound of the heavy wooden door opening filled the room, as a small group of well-dressed men and women filed in through the doorway. As my eyes scanned over each person who entered, my heart skipped a beat and I jolted upward to attempt a human salute as I spotted President Zhao at the tail-end of the group. [What the fuck? Why is he meeting with us?] The other three followed my gaze and stood to salute as well. In his surprise, James nearly fell over. My three partners were as equally dumbstruck as I by the sudden appearance of the head of the government.
President Zhao took on a small amused smirk as he witnessed James straighten himself out. “At ease. You may take a seat.” We did as he commanded. “Welcome to the Capitol. It’s good to see that you all accepted your invitations. I can see from your confused expressions that you probably want some answers, so let’s get started.” As Zhao took a seat at the head of the table, one of the men who had accompanied him lifted a briefcase from his side and placed it delicately on the table. The man inputted a code into a small keypad and the briefcase unlocked with a click. Inside was a holo-projector, which the man placed on the center of the table. “Before we begin, our four guests will need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, the information spoken of in this meeting must never leave this room.” Another of the officials, a small woman in a black dress, passed four holopads to us, which we promptly wrote our signatures into. The holopads were collected and Zhao spoke. “Excellent. You’re probably all curious about the reason we invited you specifically for this opportunity, why all the security measures and guards, why we’re trying to keep this under such tight wraps.” The holo-projector on the table switched on and briefly displayed the Coalition logo, before transitioning to a hologram of Talsk, the Farsul homeworld. “As you know, for hundreds of years the Federation had been keeping archives filled with classified knowledge and confiscated or outright stolen items. On the nineteenth of june, approximately four weeks ago, after extensive search efforts, we found the motherlode. The Federation had kept many archives but this one was special. It wasn’t a library, it was a tomb. Buried under several kilometers of rock and deep ocean, the Federation sealed away items and information that, if released, could possibly threaten their hold over the galaxy.”
The holo-projector transitioned to a diagram depicting the archive, there was no entrance-way and no exit, just kilometers of water and stone between it and the surface. The hologram zoomed in on the archive, showing a more detailed view of the gargantuan structure. It consisted of several levels, each with a number of chambers housing items or information. At the very bottom of the structure, one chamber stood out among the rest. 10 meter thick walls of an ultra-hard titanium alloy encased a small cell filled with toxic gas. Suspended in the middle of the chamber by hundreds of metal rods was a vacuum-sealed prism of diamond. Finally, inside the prism was a small metal cube along with a holopad.

I nervously clicked my claws against the wooden table as I waited for the rest of the invitees to arrive. The UN had brought me to the senate building privately so as to not cause panic, and I was grateful. I only hoped that the people whom I was going to be working with wouldn’t freak out at my appearance.
The war against the Federation and the subjugation of the Arxur by the Dominion had ended shortly after my birth, but the effects of the past few centuries of conflict could not be eliminated in such a short amount of time. Societal ideals have to be rewritten over long stretches of time by strong people with strong will, and there simply hasn’t been enough time to do so. As a result, though it has been many years since the last battle against the Arxur, it was still uncommon to see any outside of the space they already inhabited, and still VERY common to see hatred and fear of us among Fed species. It has always been my ultimate goal to show those who fear us just how similar we are, that is why I sacrificed everything to attend the Meiers Institute of Knowledge.
On the Arxur’s side of the societal coin, it was social suicide to interact with “prey” species willingly. [Oh how I hate that word.] Most of the elders of our society could not get over their hatred of the Federation species, despite the fact that they were under just as much, if not MORE subjugation than we were. When I made the decision to go and learn at MIK, I was shunned from all social groups at home. Not that there even were many, most Arxur rarely interacted with each other if they could help it.
MIK was a chance for me to experience new ideas and try new things. For once, I wasn’t discriminated against because I had front-facing eyes and scary teeth, and I learned just how much I loved socializing with like-minded people. I was finally allowed to let my love for knowledge flourish in a way that other Arxur would never have condoned. I graduated some time later with several degrees and a doctorate in paleontology.
Though to some, the idea of digging up bones and putting them together like a puzzle seemed macabre, it felt liberating to me. I felt like I truly understood the value of life and death. I could look at the cracked tooth of an ancient ancestor of the Arxur or the fossilized chitin of one of the Tilfish’s predecessors and identify a pattern, showing the divergent evolution they underwent to achieve their current form. I could see the similarities all life inherently had. Sometimes the similarities between us were shocking, and occasionally it was kind-of scary, but that only made me more passionate about my work.
I assume that is why the UN decided to send me a job offer 3 weeks ago. When I received it I was ECSTATIC at the prospect. The UN government sending ME, a small-time nobody Arxur paleontologist, an invitation to work with them? If I could tell my past self what I would be up to now, I would almost certainly scoff at myself. Even as I boarded my UN funded private ship to Aafa I was subconsciously wondering if it was some elaborate prank. My thoughts were interrupted as I heard footsteps from the other side of the door. This is it, I’m about to meet my partners, please don’t run away screaming.
A human, a venlil, and a gojid stood in the doorway staring at me. The gojid seemed slightly fearful but hid it well, the human and venlil however just seemed confused. [Okay, okay, they didn’t scream at me. That’s a good start.] The three, along with their escort, settled into chairs at the table I sat at, looking at me expectantly. I straightened my posture and prepared myself mentally to greet them. “H-hi, my name is Tassak. Are you the other three invitees?” The human sitting across from me spoke. “Yes. I hope I don’t offend by saying this but I wasn’t expecting an Arxur invitee.” He raised an eyebrow as he ended his sentence. He quickly started talking again, probably to try and explain his reasoning. “Sorry, I-I mean, don’t the Arxur frown upon interacting with “prey” species?” The venlil and gojid looked at me as I thought of a response. “Yes, they do. I had to cut a lot of ties to get into this profession. Let’s get introductions out of the way please.” “Alright, my name is James. I’m 31 years old. I was born on Earth and now live on Venlil prime. I went to MIK to become a historian. My diet is mainly coffee but occasionally I drink coffee as a treat.” The man smiled as he awaited our amusement, but it never came. James’ smirk faded and he coughed into his hand before continuing. “I was invited along with my friend Lemva, she’s the venlil next to me, and Cayek, he’s the gojid to your right.”
I exhaled quietly, James seemed friendly enough. “My name is Tassak, as I said before. I’m 29. I got a doctorate in paleontology at the Meiers Institute of Knowledge, along with some other degrees. I hail from Wriss I currently live on Earth.” As I finished my statement, I couldn’t help but criticize the way I spoke. [Why did I talk so rigidly, ughhh! My first impressions are going terribly!] James spoke up. “Wait, did we all come from MIK? Weird coincidence huh?” I could tell he was trying to ease the tension in the room. “I thought I would’ve noticed a giant lizard guy walking around campus.” Wait, did he call me a guy? “Uh, I’m a girl, actually.” I spoke timidly. The man before me became as red as a fresh cut of steak. His embarrassment was plainly visible, which I found amusing, it lessened my anxiety slightly.
The venlil that James had referred to as Lemva spoke up, changing the subject. “Weelll… Anyhow, my name is Lemva as James told you. I’m 30 years old. I’m an archaeologist and got my doctorate from MIK. My current home is on Earth but I’ve lived a little bit of everywhere. Me and James have been friends for a long time, we met in the institute’s history club.” Everyone focused their attention onto Cayek as Lemva’s introduction concluded. It took several seconds for him to compose himself. I could tell that my presence was uncomfortable for him, and him being seated closest to me of the three people probably exacerbated that feeling. I didn’t blame him for his fear, but it still stung a little. He gulped and started talking.
“My name is Cayek. I’m a 41 year old linguist who also went to MIK for my doctorate. I was born on the Cradle, was taken in at a young age by the UN after it got bombed, and was offered a home in one of the cities constructed by the Cradle Re-colonization Project, where I now live.” The man stopped talking and I thought he was done, but he straightened his posture and started speaking again. “I just want to get this out of the way before it causes trouble later down the line.” He spoke with a sigh. “I was born in a… you could call it a “hostile” household. My family raised me during a time when hate against… “people who were different” was acceptable. My upbringing cemented a couple habits into me that I’ve been trying to chip away at, so to speak, ever since I saw the sheer good that mankind is capable of. I’ve been attempting to be more open to new ideas ever since. Hell, I even took the anti-cure and tried some-” He gulped. “-non-herbivore cuisine, to get some perspective. So if I accidentally say or do something offensive to you please tell me, I truly want to leave that part of me behind.” As he ended his speech, he slouched and let out a breath he had been holding in. I was surprised by his honesty.
James and Lemva both processed the information. I responded first. “Thank you. You have no idea how much anxiety dropped off my shoulders just now. I was worried you’d all run away at first sight of me or treat me like some bloodthirsty beast. I very much appreciate the effort you’re putting into reforming.” James spoke after me. “I appreciate it too. After all these riots it’s such a breath of fresh air to meet a person that won’t cry if I look at them.” In the past 10 minutes, this man had crammed in jokes at any time he could. I think I’m gonna like him. I could tell that the joke came from a place of sadness though, I could see the sadness in his eyes.
James started to look impatient, he tapped his fingers on the table in a rhythmic pattern while he checked his holopad for the time. “I thought we were here for a job offer. How long is this gon-” The sound of the heavy wooden door opening filled the room, as a small group of well-dressed men and women filed in through the doorway. As my eyes scanned over each person who entered, my heart skipped a beat and I jolted upward to attempt a human salute as I spotted President Zhao at the tail-end of the group. [What the fuck? Why is he meeting with us?] The other three followed my gaze and stood to salute as well. In his surprise, James nearly fell over. My three partners were as equally dumbstruck as I by the sudden appearance of the head of the government.
President Zhao took on a small amused smirk as he witnessed James straighten himself out. “At ease. You may take a seat.” We did as he commanded. “Welcome to the Capitol. It’s good to see that you all accepted your invitations. I can see from your confused expressions that you probably want some answers, so let’s get started.” As Zhao took a seat at the head of the table, one of the men who had accompanied him lifted a briefcase from his side and placed it delicately on the table. The man inputted a code into a small keypad and the briefcase unlocked with a click. Inside was a holo-projector, which the man placed on the center of the table. “Before we begin, our four guests will need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, the information spoken of in this meeting must never leave this room.” Another of the officials, a small woman in a black dress, passed four holopads to us, which we promptly wrote our signatures into. The holopads were collected and Zhao spoke. “Excellent. You’re probably all curious about the reason we invited you specifically for this opportunity, why all the security measures and guards, why we’re trying to keep this under such tight wraps.” The holo-projector on the table switched on and briefly displayed the Coalition logo, before transitioning to a hologram of Talsk, the Farsul homeworld. “As you know, for hundreds of years the Federation had been keeping archives filled with classified knowledge and confiscated or outright stolen items. On the nineteenth of june, approximately four weeks ago, after extensive search efforts, we found the motherlode. The Federation had kept many archives but this one was special. It wasn’t a library, it was a tomb. Buried under several kilometers of rock and deep ocean, the Federation sealed away items and information that, if released, could possibly threaten their hold over the galaxy.”
The holo-projector transitioned to a diagram depicting the archive, there was no entrance-way and no exit, just kilometers of water and stone between it and the surface. The hologram zoomed in on the archive, showing a more detailed view of the gargantuan structure. It consisted of several levels, each with a number of chambers housing items or information. At the very bottom of the structure, one chamber stood out among the rest. 10 meter thick walls of an ultra-hard titanium alloy encased a small cell filled with toxic gas. Suspended in the middle of the chamber by hundreds of metal rods was a vacuum-sealed prism of diamond. Finally, inside the prism was a small metal cube along with a holopad.

About a year ago I took leadership of a youth group for my kiddo and pretty much quit playing golf completely when I was playing almost every day previously. I wasn't eating well and put on ~30 pounds (150->180) over the course of about 8 months.
I've been back at it for about a month and my ball control is better than ever... But I've lost nearly 20-30 yards on basically every club. Finally snagged a PRGR launch monitor and my Driver speed is averaging 92 (I got to 101 last night when I really jumped on it, but it was painful for my shoulder).
I had a fitting session just over a year ago that showed my *average* driver speed at 105.
What the hell happened to me? I mean I certainly expected to lose *some* distance, but damn. Has anyone else gone through this before?

dedicated was the worst consecutive 6 weeks of my life. i truly never want to go through this ever again. sorry if you think i’m being over dramatic but truly it was so so so bad for me. the choke hold this exam had on me was something i had never experienced before. i ate slept drank and lived step
my scores form 30 41%( pre dedicated) form 26 61% (2 weeks into dedicated) uworld 1 68% 234 (2 weeks out from the test ) form 27 69% with a 97% chance passing, (1 week out from the test ) new free 120 71% (65/75/75) 3 days out from the test
if you’re still studying you got this!!!!!!!!! the test was fair :) u got this. if ur still studying don’t read my post lol. the test ain’t bad u got this.
my scores may look good but i know i failed. the test wasn’t even that bad (at the time that i was taking it) but after a few hours i keep remembering i messed up easy questions, biostats were soooooooo hard, i had so many random biochem and genetics on my test. a lot of the stuff i studied didn’t come up. i thought i would walk out of the test thinking “oh if i had just studied this” but i literally don’t even know what i could have done differently. like even the pharm and micro were hard for me. ithere were random questions that i just didn’t know but it felt like i should have? idk how to explain it. i also feel like i only picked up on 1 maybe 2 experimental questions during the test. and now im questioning even the questions i was sure of. leading up to the test i was considering delaying but hindsight i don’t even know what i would have studied to get the questions right on the test. and that’s why i don’t even know what i am going to do when i fail like i don’t know what i’m going to do different. i’m so terrified of failing bc i don’t know what speciality im interested in and i don’t want this to limit my options. i’m terrified of living the same way i have for the past 6 weeks. i don’t have it in me to do this again. i feel like i gave it everything i had and if that wasn’t good enough to get the 60% to get the pass i quite literally do not know what i’m going to do.

Passed the PANCE on the first try and hoping that my stats/scores this past year may give you some help with studying for the exam and maybe relieve some anxiety.

ROSH PANCE Q Bank: 90% complete, 76% correct, 89% probability of passing, 501 predicted score
NCCPA Practice Exam A: lower 1/3 all in the green
PANCE score: 515
I mostly used Rosh Review to study and I would say that getting the PANCE Q Bank from Rosh was definitely worth it for me. I did the 60-day access and used it to also study for my EOC exam in addition to the PANCE. I took the PANCE about 1.5 weeks after graduation and studied for a good 8 days using Rosh Review, reading the descriptions in most questions and taking notes on them. I followed the PANCE blueprint and started by going through the largest percentage of questions (Cardiology, Pulmonology, GI, etc) and working my way down to the lowest percentage of questions (Derm, Heme, ID, etc). I would say that I did about 350-400 questions a day from Rosh and split them into 60-minute intervals of 60 questions to mimic the PANCE. I took the NCCPA practice exam A 2 days before the PANCE and that did give me some reassurance, but I felt pretty bad about it when I was taking it and thought it was difficult. I heard that practice exam B was more in line with the current PANCE, so that might be worth looking into.
The day before the exam I stayed at a hotel near where I was taking the PANCE since it was a bit far, and went over the notes I took from the Rosh topics that I felt I struggled with. I didn't really use Pance Prep Pearls too much other than to look at useful charts. I did get the Final Step review book at the start of the clinical year and it has lots of high-yield quick questions and went through the book the day before the exam just doing some quick review of high-yield topics (here is the link: https://wallacedm.lpages.co/tfs-20-package/) and listened to the digital version when I was driving around the week before my test. I also think that Cram the PANCE is a great resource for high-yield review and I'd recommend watching these videos with questions and explanations, especially in the topics that you feel weakest in (here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/@cramthepance).
The night before the exam I was a little nervous and liked to just do some light review. I tried to go to sleep at a reasonable time but didn't sleep the best the night before. I woke up about 3 hours before my exam and had breakfast, caffeine, and did some light review. Make sure to get to the testing site at least 30 minutes before your exam start time and bring all the things that are needed including valid ID forms, snacks, water, etc. If you get distracted easily like me, you can ask for earplugs or headphones to block out some noise. I took a 5-10 minute break after each section to stretch my legs, go to the bathroom, and grab water. This prevented me from getting too fatigued during the exam. I did the same with my EOC exam.
After finishing the exam, I didn't feel great to be honest, which is crazy to think given my score. BUT it's a big test and it's easy to get overwhelmed when it means so much to you and you feel you're not doing well or marking a lot of questions. Just take a deep breath and try to relax and remember that you know this stuff and that you have come this far with the knowledge that you have and you are good enough to be able to do this. I'm currently at 150 hours with only three main dungeons done, exploring every single inch of a region before moving to the next one. I obviously am not going near Hyrule Castle for it presumably being the final area of the game but there is one area I have not found the way to get to, be it from the sky, from the ground or from below: Korok Woods, (be wary, I DON'T WANT SPOILERS on how to get there) no matter what I tried, so far I haven't found a way to get around there. The fun thing is that in this day and age all it would take me to figure out how to get there would be a single search on google, yet I'm not doing that and god forbid I would NEVER do that. A simple search on google would ruin the moment of epiphany I'm sure I'll get once I figure out how to get there by myself, this is such an amazing feeling and only a few games manage to do that so well. I haven't even gotten to a solution to get there and I'm already thrilling with joy due to the anticipation of the moment. This game's amazing
