2023.06.07 17:45 CartographerOdd5487 How accurate are benefit calculators online?
I'm currently working full time for a company and have been for the past 5+ years but our company is making a lot of changes so am worried about potentially losing my job in the coming months so just waying up my options in case it happens.
I'm a home owner, single no kids but the calculators keep saying I will earn almost the same as my salary which is baffling to me. I don't earn a huge amount, just above the minimum wage, take home is 1.5k a month after tax so it seems unrealistic, I used the entitledto website which seems reputable by many, does that actually sound accurate? Sorry for the naive question, I don't really know too much about benefits but was on JSA for a bit prior to my job.

2023.06.07 17:38 HandsomeAssBastard Question regarding financial maths
I've been trying to figure out the formula but I can't seem to find it online.
If I were to have an invoice for say $1,000, and this money received from this was being split three ways:
$100 to A
$100 to B
$300 to C
What would the formula be to calculate how the remaining $500 is split between the three parties to reflect their original figure? (Not evenly, not dividing $500 by 3)
So in the example above A and B would get $200 and C would get $600.
Is there a formula for this?

2023.06.07 16:49 Supaa69 Ways to Order and Dosing Answered
Okay, there are ALWAYS questions about where to order and how. I reviewed the rules and unless I am missing something, names can be shared. If it isn’t allowed, someone needs to show me where it says it isn’t. I just know everyone says “search for it” and it takes quite a bit of searching through people asking to find it and others have to spend so much time answering messages to give out the information.
I am going to share ways to order so people have it if they want it. Note: I cannot share specific contact info or the post is removed. I am not trying to be a gatekeeper.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I am not giving anyone medical advise. Each person is responsible for themselves and for what they decide to order and use. You need to do research. Look through these topics and discussions. Use the search function. Go to other apps and search things. Go to search engines and search things. The answers ARE out there already.
- Mounjaro is tirzepatide (TZ). Mounjaro is the brand name from Eli Lilly for the drug tirzepatide. The only place you can get the brand name Mounjaro legally is from a licensed pharmacy and you must have a prescription. Cost is well over $1,000 without insurance. To find out if your insurance covers it and the co-pay, go to your insurance website and look it up in their formulary. Most or all will require pre-authorization which means they will review and deny coverage unless you meet criteria or appeal the decision.
- Compounded Tirzepatide. Compounded tirzepatide is made/reconstituted at a compound pharmacy. These pharmacies in the US are FDA regulated and have to follow many rules to do what they do. To get compounded tirzepatide you will need a prescription. Cost varies but is cheaper than non-covered Mounjaro. You can find local doctors to write your script if they are registered with a compound pharmacy which will likely be the cheapest option (no middle man). Your other option is to look up the MANY MANY places that offer it online.
Here are some ways some of these places work:
Some have a questionnaire that a doctor reviews and approves you to order, you order, they send a script to the pharmacy they use, that’s it.
Some you have to pay a monthly, quarterly, or annual fee and meet with a doctor monthly, quarterly, or annually to go over things and approve you. Then you can order, they send a script to the pharmacy they use, that’s it.
Some you find a provider that covers your state, meet with them, they charge what they want, and the company also charges a fee on top of that. Then you can order, they send a script to the pharmacy they use, that’s it.
Some require blood work before they will prescribe anything.
Most send you everything you need with each order (medication, alcohol prep pads, instructions, and insulin needles)
Needless to say, there are many options and YOU need to figure out which is best for you. These are easy to find by Googling “compounded tirzepatide” with words like order, pharmacy, doctor, etc.
- Lyophilized (freeze dried) Tirzepatide Peptide. This is often what people are here to look for. Arctic, Peptide Science, Wicked, BioTech, QSC, Senwayer, etc. (there are a ton)
At these places you buy a dry peptide (usually with filler) and you have to reconstitute it yourself. To reconstitute means to add fluid to dissolve the peptide so you can draw it up and inject it. This is done using BAC water. Most of these places sell BAC water as well. You will also need alcohol prep pads and insulin needles.
You do not need a doctor or a prescription to buy peptides. It is not illegal to buy peptides. Peptides sold like this are designed to be for research purposes only (not for you to inject yourself) but it can save you money and lots of people do it.
Places that charge more may have reasons for doing so. For example, Arctic Peptides used to order from QSC and sold to people for a higher price but they also get COAs for batches to ensure the vials contain close to pure tirzepatide and the correct amount. The commented previously that they are no longer sourcing with QSC. Ordering from QSC and Senwayer is way cheaper but you also have no way of knowing if your specific batch is 99%+ pure TZ or if it is close to 10mg in the vials unless you send vials yourself for testing. There was a thread where someone had a COA showing a batch of QSC was 30% under-dosed and Senwayer was under-dosed as well just not as much. So that is a big risk of ordering direct. That being said, they do have pretty good reputations and many people order from them.
Most peptide companies have a website you can search and order from but QSC and Senwayer do not. To order, you email. Tell them what you want and they will email you prices. To place your order they will tell you the information they need and ask how you want to pay. They both take different methods of payment and it is up to you to decide which you are most comfortable with.
I posted their contact info and my post was removed for being so specific which I don’t understand because other posts have the emails listed. So, unfortunately, you will have to dig or ask people for that contact info.
- Dosing. If you re reconstituting peptides, you need to be able to do some simple math. The mg of TZ in a vial is the total mg. A 5mg vial has 5mg TZ. A 10mg vial has 10mg TZ. So, when you put in BAC water, however much you put in, that amount equals the vial total in mg and you have to divide that amount into your specific dose. For insulin needles 100 units is one mL.
Also, you choose how much BAC water to add. If you choose to do more or less you can but then you have to do similar math to figure out how many units equals how many mg. There is also a peptide calc website you can use. But note it measures the mg as mcg so you multiply the vial mg by 1000 when using the calculator because 1mg=1000mg so a 10mg vial is actually 10000mcg and a 2.5mg dose is 2500mcg.
Here are some examples.
Example 1 - You purchased a 10mg vial of TZ. You are brand new and are going to take 2.5mg doses to start. You can use a 100 unit insulin needle to add 100 units (1 mL) of BAC water to the vial. Now 100 units equals 10mg. Simple math means if you want 2.5mg doses, 2.5 + 2.5 + 2.5 + 2.5 = 10. So there are 4 doses of 2.5mg in this vial. There are 100 units in this vial. 100/4 is 25. So 25 units = 2.5mg TZ. Now, if you want 3mg it is 30 units. 5mg it is 50 units. Etc.
Example 2 - You have a 5mg vial of TZ. Your dose is 5mg. So, you need to use the entire vial for your one dose. Whether you put in 30 units of BAC water, 50 units, or 100 units, it doesn’t matter, you use the entire amount to inject 5mg.
Example 3 - You have a 10mg vial of TZ. You decided you want 3 equal doses from the vial so you are going to do 3.33 mg per shot. You can inject 100 units, divide that by 3 and that equals 3 doses of 33 units each.
Example 4 - You have a 10mg vial of TZ. Your dose is 5mg. This means you have 2 doses. You put in 200 units of BAC water. Your dose for 5mg is 100 units. Now, if your dose is 2.5mg then that men’s there are 4 doses in the 200 units. 200/4 = 50. Your dose for 2.5mg is 50 units.
I hope this helps and if anyone else has tips and tricks or useful information please add on! I hope removing the linked contact information will let this post stay but we will see.

2023.06.07 16:42 efh1 I've decided to open source my research into vacuum balloons and a potentially new approach to nano foams. This information is very interesting when compared to the UFO metal sphere analysis published by Steve Colbern
| || | submitted by efh1 to UFObelievers [link] [comments]
I've been doing online research as well as some tinkering and was planning on building a prototype to demonstrate the first ever vacuum balloon, but I'm running into issues with expenses and time. I believe I've identified 2 approaches using well known materials that should work but one in particular that could be pulled off by a garage tinkerer with extra time and money to spare on the project.
Along the way I also started experimenting with creating foams using a technique I've basically invented as far as I can tell. I can't find any literature on it. I've gotten mixed results with it and am just not sure if it will ever work at least without being done properly in a lab setting. The approach has a lot of promise and I'll explain why.
There's a lot to go into on this subject. I've written about vacuum balloons
before so if this is a new concept for you, you should give it a read.
I'm human so some of this work could have errors in it, but I have done experiments to test my theory and gotten interesting results. I have measured weight reduction in some of my designs and I have accurately predicted the results in cases where I could measure properly.
That gave me a lot of hope to continue on at first but it's just a lot of work and I went way over budget early on. I can't keep pouring money into the project anymore and it hurts to say that because some of the results are so interesting. Also, life gets's busy and I can only tinker for so long.
The best shape is a sphere because you need to withstand the atmospheric pressure outside the balloon pushing in at about 14 psi. For the same reasons we build bridges with arches, the sphere is the best shape for this because it will spread the forces out evenly. It becomes a matter of having a material that can withstand the compressive forces and in the case of non-uniformity (which to some degree is always going to be present) shear forces. Of course, the material also needs to be lightweight or it will never lift. Many sources will erroneously tell you no such material exists, but this isn't true.
In theory, there are multiple materials that would probably work but the issue starts to become the total size of the balloon (and defects.) You could make it out of glass, but the balloon would have to be incredibly large and would be insanely prone to shattering and that's even if it was made defect free so there's really no point in trying normal glass. This is where choosing your materials is key so that you don't waste your time.
The volume of a sphere is V = 4/3πr^3
To calculate the buoyant force of lift at atmosphere you can simply multiply the volume by 1.29 kg/m3 and that will give you the amount it can lift in kg. Simply multiply by 2.2 for conversion to get the number in pounds. This formula was derived from the formula below.
The 1.29 kg/m3 is the fluid density of atmosphere and I simply removed the acceleration of gravity to show the force in units of pure weight rather than in Newtons. It's a simple calculation and understanding it is key to helping you design the vacuum balloon.
Now that you understand how to calculate the lifting force of vacuum in a sphere you can run a bunch of numbers and see for yourself that the lifting force is very small below radius 1 and grows exponentially above radius 1. This means it will be exceptionally hard to build a working vacuum balloon below radius 1 but unfortunately there are limitations to building large structures as well. Usually you want a prototype to be simple and cheap, not experimental in and of itself. This means the first demonstrated vacuum balloon will likely be about 2 meters in diameter or about 6 feet. It also means a vacuum balloon of very large proportions would potentially have incredible lifting force.
Now that you understand the relations between size and lifting force all you need to do is calculate the volume of the envelope of the spherical balloon. This is done by simply calculating the volume of a sphere of the size of the envelope and then subtracting that by the volume of the inner void. The difference is the volume of your envelope and you can easily calculate the weight of your envelope by multiplying the density by the volume. If you do this while calculating the lifting force and plug different numbers in you can easily see how the ratio of weight to volume works. You can also see how the density influences this and even can compare the volume of different shapes if you really want to just to see how much better a sphere really is than perhaps a square.
It's very important to point out that one of my biggest lessons in building prototypes is that there can't be any defects. I originally was making hemispheres and trying to join them together before pumping down to vacuum and every time there was a failure it was at the meeting of the two hemispheres. One solid piece seems to be necessary. It's conceivable that two hemispheres can be joined and bonded to become one solid piece free of defects, but I unfortunately did not have the materials to do this. I did do some experiments and found that you can reinforce this area with lightweight bamboo if necessary. However, these were small preliminary designs and I'm not confident that would scale well.
It's worth noting that the next best shape is a cylinder with hemispheres on each end. Basically a tic tac shape. It's only worth attempting this shape if you have reasons to from a manufacturing perspective. For example, I played around with the idea of making a foam sheet and then rolling it into a cylinder before it set rather than attempting to cast a foam hemisphere. It only makes sense if you are attempting a volume too large to pull off as a sphere for practical reasons (like it would't fit in garage or won't caste evenly.) Because it still needs hemispheres it's a design best left for after demonstrating a spherical design.
I dive into the use of aerogels and xerogels in the article referenced above. The purpose of these foam materials is because when engineered properly they retain a lot of their strength but lose a lot of their weight which actually increases their strength to weight ratio and that's exactly what we need to make this work. There is no material in bulk form worth pursuing for this design. You absolutely have to use a foam material. Even if you could pull it off using glass or beryllium, it's just not practical even for demonstration purposes. During my search I found the most attractive material in the bulk to be polycarbonate. It's still not worth trying in bulk form, so I invented a way to make a foam out of it. Polycarbonate is lighter and stronger than glass. Nobody has ever made an aerogel out of it that I'm aware of. I did not image my foam because I'm not doing this work in a sophisticated lab, but I can say fairly confidently that it's about 75% porosity. That's impressive, but I suspect that a lot of the bonding is weak and there's defects, but in my defense I used an insanely primitive and low tech technique. There are two well known foams we all have access to that in theory should work. Styrofoam and polyurethane.
I understand that may cause you to sigh in disbelief. After all, polyurethane was invented in the 1930's at IG Farben and styrofoam in the 1940's so they are not only old but very ubiquitous. I should also point out that aerogel was invented in the 1930's and was once mass produced by Monsanto. None of these materials are new.
I used the given compressive and shear strengths published by a local styrofoam manufacturer to identify some common commercial grade foams that are very light weight that should work in theory if there's no defects. I tried working with them to have some custom shapes made, but they unfortunately are limited to 4 feet for one of the dimensions of their die blocks. This is very problematic even if we knew how to fuse two styrofoam hemispheres together. I'm not going to say it's impossible, but it makes pulling it off more challenging. I did do some experiments with small 1 foot diameter styrofoam hemispheres that are commonly available and managed to measure a weight reduction before it imploded. Anybody can replicate these experiments. I expected it to fail because the thickness was less than 1 inch. I found the best design was to nest two of these styrofoam spheres within each other but with the orientations opposing so that the point of failure for the outer sphere was across the strongest points of the inner sphere. This should create a perpendicular crossing of the hemispheres of the inner and outer shells. This is also where I tried some glues. Gorilla glue works best and sure enough it's a polyurethane. I was so impressed by it that I switched over to attempting polyurethane designs for the sphere.
I found a polyurethane foam
used in boating that is only 2lb/ft3 which is very impressive. It also boasts a compressive strength of 38 psi. I figure that means half an inch of this stuff would be able to handle 19 psi theoretically. That's 5 psi above the 14 psi we need for our vacuum balloon. It's not a lot of room for error, but it works in theory.
What I like about polyurethane is that you can fairly easily make custom shapes with it and DIY. I experimented with a few different techniques and can say that you need this foam to be open to the air to set properly, but it does take on conformal shapes fairly well. The best method I found to make a hemisphere out of it was to actually blow up a rubber balloon and fit that snug into a styrofoam sheet for support and then pour the polyurethane foam onto it and let it set. You can then use cutting tools to clean up the extra material. This method works, but the cutting is a pain as I did it by hand. Precision will likely be necessary to properly join the two hemispheres and I learned this the hard way when I tried to join them. A more precise way to form the hemispheres I found was to buy plastic hemispheres and coat them in wax (to make removal of the polyurethane easier.) This is far more expensive than the balloon but gives more precise results. You can find people selling these in sizes up to 6 feet but it will get pricey. It's worth mentioning that I had a hard time removing the set polyurethane from the plastic even with a wax coating (which I also verified experimentally is the least sticky thing to use) so I'm not sure it's even the best approach. I've tried reaching out to polyurethane component manufacturers but so far no response. I'm sure outsourcing this would remove a lot of headaches, but also be very expensive for such a custom piece.
Just to highlight why I think this commonly available polyurethane foam is promising I want to calculate a 1 meter radius sphere of one half inch thickness to show that it should work in theory. Of course, this means no defects including the joining of the two hemispheres which is still a problem to solve but it's possible gorilla glue and precision would solve it. Maybe a DIY'er with their own CNC may want to give it a shot.
Using the volume of sphere formula given above we see that the volume of 1 meter radius is 4.187m3. The volume of a sphere of 1 meter minus 1/2 inch is 4.0295 m3. The buoyant lift of that is 11.44 lbs. The difference in volume (to find the volume of the polyurethane used) is .1575 m3 or 5.56 ft3. At a density of 2 lbs/ft3 that gives a weight of 11 lbs of polyurethane. That's less than the 11.44 lbs of lift.
I know what you're probably thinking. How does it hold vacuum? It's true that polyurethane and styrofoam are not expected to hold vacuum (I actually did find experimentally that styrofoam does hold partial vacuum for a few hours after it's shrunk much like the LANL aerogel) but you can simply wrap the sphere in plastic to hold vacuum. I planned on experimenting with dip coatings, but for experimental purposes I came up with a very clever design that I will explain later. Just know that the plastic doesn't have to be very thick to hold vacuum so it's very much within the range of possibility to coat the sphere in a thin plastic layer at less than .44 lbs. Plastic is very dense, but we are talking about literally a few mils of material. This is also why I roll my eyes at people who mock me for attempting a design with materials that don't hold vacuum. You are not limited to materials that hold vacuum for your design when you can simply add a layer for that later.
Experimental Set Up
I initially bought one of those vacuum chambers made out of a large steel pan and thick acrylic. Mechanical pumps are easy to find and relatively cheap. Mine came with the chamber. However, I quickly found it wasn't big enough and attempting to build a larger one looked costly. This is where I got clever and shocked myself with a very cheap set up that actually works. I simply bought regular large sized vacuum bags designed for storing cloths because they have a clever little self sealing mechanism that traps the vacuum. These bags are not meant for actual vacuum with a mechanical pump so I wasn't sure how it would work. I also had to find a way to rig it all up. As funny as it sounds my solution was to take the nozzle of an empty plastic bottle that happened to fit onto the hose and then I cut a piece of EDPM rubber to cover the end meant for the bottle and put a small slit in the center for air to move through. I then pushed this into the self sealing part of the vacuum bag and it actually creates a seal and pumps down! And when you remove the pump it self seals!
I found I sometimes had issues with pumping down properly and solved this by using a metal straw that I placed inside the bag near the seal and directed towards the sphere to act as a channel. Once again, to my surprise this works very well.
So, I then disassembled my original steel pot vacuum chamber and used the parts along with some parts I had to buy online to rig the pressure gauge into the system so that I could verify how much vacuum I was achieving. I'm a bit proud of this DIY set up because it works so well.
In order to properly record your results you must weight the vacuum bag and the metal straw as well as your experimental sphere before vacuuming. Then vacuum it down and pay attention to the gauge. If your design is not very good it may implode before achieving full vacuum. That's okay. You can actually measure a weight reduction without reaching the full vacuum. "Full" vacuum in this case is actually what is known as low vacuum. Low vacuum is all you need for a vacuum balloon to work as you have effectively removed most of the air and it's not necessary to reach medium or high vacuum.
This set up was for spheres of only 1 foot diameter and I don't think there are bags large enough for 6 foot spheres. However, my plan was to use a heat gun to stitch a bunch of the bags together to make it work. It's dirty but once again it should work theoretically. I was also planning on using a heat gun to section off portions of the bag to seal it around the sphere and cut off excess material but that part is really only necessary if you are about to achieve lift. I imagine it's possible once you've proven you can make a structure strong enough and light enough for lift that a better technique would be to incorporate a valve and find a way to dip coat the sphere to seal it. I never got this far.
A Potential New Approach To Foam
I mentioned experimenting with making foams and identifying polycarbonate as good material to turn into a nano foam. I use the term nano foam because aerogel wouldn't be technically correct. They are both nano foams. The aerogel is made using gel. This approach doesn't. It's very low tech and dirty. I theorized I could use the fact that polycarbonate is a thermoplastic to my advantage and mix it as a powder with another material that can withstand it's glass transition temperature but is also easily soluble in water. So, I found some polycarbonate powder (first American apparently to buy it) and mixed it with some ordinary table salt then put it in the oven. I know this sounds ridiculous. Then I washed the sample after it cooled in the sink and dried it with paper towels. Then I soaked it in rubbing alcohol and dried that with paper towels. Then I let it sit overnight to fully evaporate if it's a big sample. Then I weighed it. When I mix the powder in a 1:1 ratio by weight the sample after washing it weights exactly half of when I started without losing any volume. So I washed out all of the salt. But, that's not all. Because this method is basically sintering the particles together, it already had lots of air pockets in it to begin with. I attempted to make a one cubic inch sample to measure the density and it's not the most precise but the density is roughly 4.7 g/in3 which is about a quarter of the density of bulk polycarbonate. This means it's porosity is about 75%. It's not he 90-99.99% of commercial aerogel, but I personally find the initial results surprising. There's a lot of ideas I have to tweak this including playing with the mix ratio, grain size, uniformity of the particles, and aerating the powder. What I find very interesting about this technique in general is that it actually would work with anything that can be sintered
including other thermoplastics, ceramics, glasses and metals. This means this approach could be used to make porous metals or even metal nano foams
The 2009 analysis of the metal sphere UFO
I've recently been made aware of the 1994 spherical UFO that Steve Colbern published a report on
in 2009. A few things stand out to me as someone who has been actively working on vacuum balloons and ways to make porous metals. First, it looks like two hemispheres nested inside each other exactly as I describe was my best approach to making a vacuum balloon based off of experimental results. Second, the sphere is presumably hollow. Third, the report clearly states that the sample analyzed was a porous metal with nanostructures present. A hollow porous shell with nested hemispheres of opposing orientation is exactly what I would expect a vacuum balloon to look like. There are ways to use my technique on titanium to make it porous although I haven't done so experimentally because it's melting point is very high. Materials other than salt could be used but even if salt was used it would be interesting because it would vaporize at the glass transition temp of titanium which actually might help make it more porous. I do believe Na and Cl impurities were present in the sample according to the report. Perhaps one could experimentally recreate this sample using this method (minus the isotopes.)
If anybody wants to crowdsource the work on this with me I'm open to it. Also, if people are open to crowdfunding the research I'm open to that as well. Either way, it's up on the internet now. Maybe 10 years from now somebody as crazy as me will pick up where I left off. I might return to this at a later date, but without help I think I need to take a break.

2023.06.07 15:31 boomroasted00 Contemplating Results from First Fertility Appointment
I just had my first appt at the fertility clinic yesterday and was told I have very low AMH. I knew it was low because I looked at the numbers myself when I got the testing done but he showed me a chart and basically I have the same number of eggs as someone who is 41/42 (I’m 34). For reference the level was 6.8 nmol/L (0.95 ng/mL).
He said our 2 options were IUI and IVF but sounds like he wanted to push IVF since time is a factor. I’m really worried I’m going to go into early menopause and miss the boat completely, but I also don’t want to jump into doing IVF in August, which is how soon he said we could start, after using some kind of testosterone cream in July.
I’m also starting a new job on September and I don’t feel comfortable asking for time off right off the bat since you have to be closely monitored for egg retrieval etc. My husband and I sat down and discussed different scenarios but I’m just looking for advice or words of comfort. I know AMH isn’t an indicator of spontaneous(?) conception and is more used for IVF, but honestly I’m scared I’m going to run out of eggs quick after the conversation with the doctor; which is why I feel this time pressure.
We thought a good plan would be to try 1-2 IUI, then continue trying unassisted until about December. I’ll have at least established myself with the new staff and can then be open and honest with my boss (principal - I’m a teacher) about why I need to take days off here and there if/when we do egg retrieval etc.
We have no coverage for fertility stuff aside from some of the meds. We only want one child, max 2 but we want to see how one goes first. We’ve been trying for 10 months with regular ovulation and frequent sex in FW without any BFP.
What would you do?? Thank god I have an appointment with my therapist next week, but Reddit is the next best thing lol I love this community. Thank you in advance ❤️
EDIT: the online conversion calculator I used was incorrect and the AMH is actually 0.95 ng/mL!! Thank you to those who corrected me.

2023.06.07 14:41 happytouch5837 25M and 23F 3 year relationship ends in a blink of an eye.
Nearly 3 year relationship over and I feel lost.
I’m trying to find ways of handling it so I thought getting it into writing would help so here goes.
I (25m) met her (23f) online during the pandemic and we got along so well we wanted to meet when the lockdown was lifted. So we did. And from there started a great relationship. We were also long distance.
Like most people, we all have our quirks and things that we dislike about ourselves as people. We bonded over our views on relationships given the fact we both had similar upbringings (being in the middle of divorcing parents etc.). And there was a real sense of connection together that we weren’t going to repeat the same mistakes as our parents. We agreed that I came out of my parents’ situation on one end of the scale, by being more sensitive and affectionate and heart on my sleeve. And she, the other side, generally more calculated, negative and feels that all men end up hurting her. She also had the tendency to completely shut down and shut people out when things became difficult.
But we found the way around it all and fell in love. However, wearing my heart of my sleeve I know that I am that way because I still keep a lot of that hurt to myself and try to fill that void by being a better partner for her than my dad was to my mum. Or at least try to be. I have tendencies to use short term fixes to alleviate the way I feel and stress, through uni, it would be drinking, then after that it would be vaping. She didn’t mind me doing it at all but she obviously preferred I didn’t do anything like that at all. But she knew I was my own person and made my own choices.
During the earlier times of our relationship, I would have a pack of cigarettes that I would keep for a rainy day. I had one. Before catching the train to see her and once I hugged her, she could obviously smell it and asked me if I had one. I said no. I don’t know why but my instant reaction was to hide from it because I knew myself it was wrong. I hated that I do it but I know I lean into it to relieve stress and I don’t want her to think of me any different.
She found that I was clearly lying and she broke down in front of me and her mum. It triggers her because her mum would hide the same thing from her along with her dad who would just lie to her all the time. And she would say that every man in her life would lie to her and hurt her.
She felt she lost her trust in me, but we rebuilt.
Fast forward a year we went on a break for 8 months, we were arguing a lot and I had gotten myself into some stuff with university and needed to sort myself out. During which we had kept in touch and went on dates etc. before getting back together. The dates were strange. Started like she never knew me and I was like a stranger to her. Then she was into me then she wasn’t. It felt awful and I felt like should’ve seen the signs.
Fast forward again, since getting back together I finished uni got my career started (been there 7months now) and I needed to get my finances in order, start driving, those sorts of things. But she didn’t have those burdens as such. She never went to uni so she had no debts of any kind and only recently started driving too. But she always wanted more from me, I was needing to be sorting my finances out so that I could actually treat her the way I always wanted to and more.
She started complaining we don’t do much together, but I disagreed because we would go out on dinner dates, cinema walk our dog little enjoyable things because we didn’t have a lot of money. But even so, she wanted me to pay for everything all of the time and it was putting a lot of pressure on me because I was trying so hard to get myself sorted and eventually be able to start saving for a house and things and she would be annoyed I don’t do enough.
I did a lot for her, bought her new furniture while I was at uni with no money because I saw she hated the stuff she had that was falling apart. I would travel to her ALL the time when she would have reason not to come to me most of the time. It felt very one sided a lot of the time.
But going from that conversation, it was her birthday coming up and I had planned a spa break for the day and she said “oh, so not for the weekend then?” And it was so hard to not retaliate because I wish it could’ve been a weekend but I don’t have the money to facilitate that right now. So I then hired a cabin for the weekend on top of that.
We got there and it was perfect. We hadn’t spent some real quality time together for so long due to family and work commitments and money. We started to reconnect like all the hardship we were facing melted away.
Then she went on my phone to change a song. I don’t mind people being on my phone but after a while I do want it back but I have nothing to hide at all. She said she doesn’t like that but I’ve figured out that she was going through my messages whilst having that conversation with me and found that I had smoked a joint with my friends.
She broke down, left the cabin for 30 mins and came back, clearly crying and upset and she calmly sat down and said that she was done with being with me. She said I lied and didn’t tell her about it and she can’t handle me lying again.
I tried to talk to her but she was done. She drove me to the train station and I went home. She asked to message her once I was home and then we spoke for a bit. She said I need to sort myself out again and need to grow out of this phase of life. She’s ready to settle down with a life partner without secrets. And that killed me off. I didn’t tell her because it wasn’t a big deal to me and it was a one off from a long stressful week at work.
3 years gone down the drain and I feel like I wasn’t enough for her. It could have been sorted in a conversation but now it’s all over. I asked if she wanted me to leave her alone and never see me again and she replied with that’s all we can do. So I removed everything from social media and it’s done.
I feel lost and broken, I want her back so much but family have said that she wanted everything her way which really hit home for me because it does make some sort of sense with how she was with me.
I don’t know what to do, I moved cities to be closer to her and now I’m just left on my own with nothing.
Sorry for the long post

2023.06.07 14:39 evz3009 Guess (after seeing some posts on here) I can’t complain…
2023.06.07 14:24 Leisure_suit_guy Are you worried about the anti-Nintendo "campaign" that is mounting on the internet?
Due to Valve's autonomous decision to contact Nintendo regarding the publication of Dolphin on Steam, the gaming part of the internet is exploded into a "two minutes of hate" campaign against Nintendo based mostly on spin and misinformation. If you look it up online, you'll see that most influencers, and even most gaming publications are saying that Nintendo "issued a DMCA", which isn't true. They're also spinning "the emulation stifles innovation" sentence as if Nintendo is worried about you emulating the 30 year old Super Mario Bros.
Nintendo is in a unique position of having their most recent games of their latest console running on emulators, of course for them emulation is a net loss. Neither Sony nor Microsoft are in that situation.
What do you think about it? On one hand I'm glad that Nintendo is interested in just making good games, I don't want them to spend millions to astroturf the internet like Microsoft and probably other gaming companies do. But on the other, the negative media campaign and the push for piracy by influencers (and gaming subreddits) could really hurt the company.

2023.06.07 11:19 Acceptable_Amoeba_37 760(Q50,V44) - resources used and lessons learnt
I got a few questions on the resources I used, so I thought I would make a detailed writeup of the same.
Disclaimer: This is not a piece of general advice, I am just documenting some of the things that worked for me. There are many experts in this sub who are qualified to give out advice, I am most definitely not one of them. Take this post with a pinch of salt. What worked for me might not work for you. Free resources in the end.
- Quant - Wizako/ Gmat Club forum quiz
- Verbal - TTP(initial months)/ Gmat Ninja video series/ GMAT Club expert replies
- Have a guessing strategy and game plan for test anxiety, don’t lose control over the test at any point
- Don’t just think of what resources to use, think of when to use those resources as well. (Eg. doing gmat club practice in the initial stages felt overwhelming for me. I utilized it in a much more effective way after I was done with the basics)
- Be kind to yourself, get enough sleep, and fake it till you make it!
- Don't get disheartened if things don't go your way, a successful GMAT attempt depends on a lot of factors in addition to your prep. Your mindset and luck are factors as well. Keep going at it, it gets better!
Resources I used: Quant:
- Although I am comfortable with quant more than with verbal, my basics were a bit rusty. I used the GMAT Quant core course from Wizako. I used this course to brush up on the basics. Although I used this course many months back, I frequented my notes from this course throughout my prep. They have a Youtube channel, you can check it out to see whether their style suits you. https://gmat.wizako.com/gmat-online-course-gmat-online-coaching-classes.shtml?gclid=CjwKCAjwsvujBhAXEiwA_UXnAK7fJppKZeq-T782xPruwFdSaR6zFVmE5l0c5SboqYLq9XAJpaBdPBoCz-0QAvD_BwE#fees
- After getting my basics in place, I started practicing with official questions. For the next few weeks, my efforts were quite scattered. In retrospect, having a structured approach would have expedited my prep - more on this later
- I purchased the TTP 4 months plan, however, I could not properly utilize the course as I had a very busy couple of months at work. Based on my experience, it is a very comprehensive course. It can be a game changer if you know how to utilize it well. Many people here feel that it is too vast, but I feel that is in good measure. They start from the absolute basics, and it is a very well-made course. I utilized TTP majorly for Verbal as it was my major pain point, and I was very satisfied with it(more on this in the verbal section)
- Once my basics were in place I realized that it was not my accuracy but my poor time management that was the bigger problem. This was my major takeaway from my first official test from a quant perspective.
- I fixed my timing problem with practice, get comfortable with the discomfort. I practised using forum quiz, and GMAT Club tests. GMAT club tests are really good, you can utilize this resource to get your time management skills in place. I would still say that they are not the same as OG questions, so DON'T skip out on OG questions. Getting an understanding of what skills the GMAT tests was an eye-opener. I also got GMAT club tests for free for 4 weeks. I got 2 weeks free for filling up an error log survey and an additional 2 weeks free for signing up for MBA Spotlight within 48 hours of its announcement. Watch out for such promotions to get some free resources.
- After practising for a while, I could see myself getting better at time management. My next pain point was careless math mistakes, I made a TONNE of them. I downloaded my error log from GMAT club, and in the week before the test, I revisited every official question that I got wrong and checked if I still made the same mistakes. If I made those mistakes even after practice, I re-read those concepts. I was making such mistakes even in the days leading to the test, anxiety was the root cause for such mistakes. I spent the last few days before my test working on my test anxiety.
- I spent the initial months of my prep doing a variety of resources, my prep was not structured at all. I used Powerscore CR Bible - a good resource to get some basics in place. I used Powerscore RC bible for RC, I found that to be helpful for me. I got comfortable with RC fairly quickly, so I did not spend much time on RC.
- GMAT Ninja Verbal series on Youtube is a godsend, I cannot stress how useful the entire series was, and the best part it is FREE. A lot of experts here say that GMAT verbal is not just about the rules, it seemed bizarre to me at first, but I understood what that meant after watching the GMAT Ninja videos. Watching those videos was a Eureka moment for me. I benefited a lot from the SC series especially. I felt that I could appreciate the videos better after I had some basics in place.
- I used TTP for verbal, especially for SC. TTP deserves every bit of credit it gets for making such a comprehensive course. Although I could not go through it completely, I greatly benefited from the verbal prep material. I referred to my SC notes from TTP multiple times during my prep journey. If you have the means and time to use TTP, go for it, but before that have a basic understanding of what your weak areas are. Use the free trial to get a feel of the course, and go for it when you are ready. Since the course is very vast, you might not have time to go through all of it, but having a clear idea of what you want in any resource will help you utilize it to the fullest.
- Read to understand the structure in RC, RC passages usually tire you out with a lot of details. Ensure that you don't lose track of the main idea, the structure, and what each paragraph tries to achieve in a structural sense. This helped me get most of the RC questions correct.
- SC is beyond the grammar rules. Don’t get me wrong, you need the rules to get to a basic level, but just that won't get you the right answer, especially in the more difficult questions. Reading for meaning is the way to go, GMAT Ninja videos helped me get this understanding. You have to be very literal with SC, I thought of SC like a puzzle.
- I am not the best person to comment about CR as that was my most difficult section, I tanked that in my first test. I learned that I did not keep track of the conclusion, so I fell for many trap answers. A few days before the test, Marty suggested I watch his Youtube video, it helped!! Thank you, Marty :) GMAT Ninja videos helped too. Like in SC, just understanding the patterns(eg. What are the typical right answers in a strengthen question?) will only get you so far, you need to understand what the main conclusion is and how the whole argument ties to it. Sometimes CR has seemingly bizarre correct answers, having a logical approach will help in such cases.
- GMAT CLUB - Just drilling OG questions will not be very effective. I used the forum quiz feature to practise in sets of 10-20 questions. I would later analyze each and every question, even the ones I got right. I used to read the expert replies and understand the concept. Once you get the hang of what qualifies as a right answer in GMAT, you will break your plateau, trust me on this.
- As mentioned earlier, I downloaded my GMAT club error log into an Excel file, revisited every official question that I got wrong, and checked if I still made the same mistakes. If I made those mistakes even after practice, and if it was because I did not completely understand that concept, I re-read those concepts(eg. I found the verb-ing modifier to be not intuitive for me, I re-read that a few times till I got the hang of it)
Miscellaneous things that worked for me:
- I did not account for this in my first test, and I learned a very important lesson the hard way. Some people are naturally calm under pressure, I am not one of them. GMAT is an exam where the stakes are high, so naturally your nerves will also be at an all-time high. Look up tips to help with anxiety, and choose what works for you. I got a 700 in my last mock 5 days before the exam, it felt like there was no way out. Once again, I am truly grateful for the people in this sub, and my family and friends for helping me move past that very rough patch. In retrospect, I feel like I needed to face that 700 in the mock in order to get the score I got on the test day.
- Be kind to yourself, and don’t get discouraged if you feel like you are not performing to the best of your ability, or if you feel like you are taking too much time to get ready for the test. You might feel like everyone else around is making massive strides and you are progressing in baby steps, understand that no two journeys are the same. Give yourself credit for showing up and wanting to move forward even when things are not looking up.
- I had a positive attitude before the test to the extent that I was surprised at myself. I told myself that nothing would stop me from giving my best possible performance on the test day, in a way I faked it till I made it. Things did not go my way initially, I had a flat tire right before I left for the test, I did not understand the very first question, and I had to guess a few questions(luck played a part here), I was surprised how unfaced I was given the turn of events. Having a resilient mindset helps, believe in your practice. I made every effort to not think about the algorithm.
- Don’t let performance in your first section affect that of your next section. I made this mistake on my first attempt and consciously avoided making the mistake on the second attempt.
- Never lose control over the test - have a guessing strategy. If you feel you are running out of time, you will have to make some calculated sacrifices.
- In my first attempt, I had some trouble using the scratch pad, I followed a timing strategy wherein I write some time markers on the bottom of the page. It might sound trivial to you, but I had trouble with flipping the pages the right way on my first attempt, I was that anxious. I got a scratch pad to practise before the second attempt. If you can’t get it in your region, or if you find it to be expensive, you can get a makeshift one made at a local stationery store. I laminated a bunch of A4 sheets and got them spiral bound, not the best way, but it did the job.
- Reading some success stories here and on GMAT Club motivated me.
- I took a week off from work before my test, I completely zoned into GMAT. If you can't do this, consider having a few days around the weekend.
Don’t be discouraged if you are on a bit of a money crunch, you can get a great score just by using free resources. I am happy to help more in this regard, feel free to DM.
- Quant- https://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-math-book-in-downloadable-pdf-format-130609.html

- General practice(use this to pick OG questions based on difficulty levels) - https://gmatclub.com/forum/viewforumtags.php

- Watch out for promotions on GMAT club to get access to tests/forum quiz for a few days. Subscribing to the youtube channel gives you 1 week of access to the forum quiz.
- GMAT Club - search for any topic that you don’t understand, and look for expert replies on that topic, it will be more than enough to understand that concept.

2023.06.07 10:58 setindiabizonline Startup Business Survival Guide: Overcoming Challenges and Achieving Growth
Starting a business from scratch is an exhilarating endeavor, filled with endless possibilities and the promise of success. However, the journey of a startup is not without its challenges. From securing funding to developing a marketable product, startups face numerous obstacles on the path to growth and sustainability. In this blog, we present a comprehensive guide to help startup businesses overcome these challenges and achieve remarkable growth.
A startup business is defined by its innovative ideas, agility, and potential for rapid growth. But the road to success is paved with hurdles that can impede progress. Common challenges faced by startups include the scarcity of funds, the need to build a strong and talented team, the development of a marketable product or service, the ability to scale operations efficiently, competition in saturated markets, and the ever-present uncertainty and risk that come with entrepreneurship.
To navigate these challenges successfully, startup founders and entrepreneurs must arm themselves with knowledge, strategies, and tools that can help them overcome obstacles and thrive in the competitive business landscape. Let’s have a closer look at some of them. Identifying Common Challenges Faced by Startups
Building a successful startup is an exhilarating journey, but it's not without its fair share of challenges. To pave the way for growth and sustainability, it's crucial for entrepreneurs to identify and understand the common obstacles they are likely to encounter. By recognizing these challenges, startups can proactively develop strategies to overcome them. So, let's identify some of the most prevalent challenges faced by startups:
- Lack of funding and financial management:
Securing adequate funding for startup operations and growth is often a significant challenge. Startups need to explore various funding options such as bootstrapping, angel investments, venture capital, or government grants. Financial management is equally crucial. Startups must carefully plan and allocate their funds, maintain a positive cash flow, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility to attract investors and sustain their operations.
- Lack of a strong team:
Assembling a talented and committed team is essential for startup success. However, startups often face challenges in attracting and retaining top talent due to limited resources and competition from established companies. Startups need to develop a compelling vision, create a positive work culture, and offer attractive incentives to attract and retain skilled individuals.
- Developing a marketable product or service:
Startups must overcome the challenge of creating a product or service that meets customer needs and stands out in the market. Conducting thorough market research, gathering customer feedback, and iterating the product based on insights are crucial steps. Startups also need to develop effective marketing strategies to communicate the value proposition of their offerings.
- Scaling operations and managing growth:
Startups need to plan for scalability right from the early stages. Scaling operations can be challenging due to limited resources and infrastructure. Startups must optimize their processes, invest in technology and automation, and efficiently allocate resources to support growth while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
- Competition and market saturation:
Startups often face fierce competition in saturated markets. To stand out, startups need to differentiate themselves through unique value propositions, superior customer experiences, and innovative approaches. Building strong relationships with customers, leveraging digital marketing channels, and staying ahead of industry trends are key strategies to overcome this challenge.
- Dealing with uncertainty and risk:
Entrepreneurship is inherently risky, and startups must navigate uncertain territory. Startups need to embrace uncertainty, adapt quickly to changes, and develop contingency plans to mitigate risks. Balancing calculated risks with careful decision-making is crucial to survive and thrive in a volatile business environment.
In addition to these common challenges, startups in India can leverage resources and support provided through initiatives like Startup-India Registration
Recognition. These government programs offer a range of benefits and opportunities to foster startup growth and success. Strategies for Overcoming Startup Challenges
Overcoming the challenges that come with running a startup requires a proactive approach and strategic thinking. By implementing effective strategies, entrepreneurs can navigate the hurdles and pave the way for growth and success. In this section, we will explore a range of strategies to help startups overcome the common challenges they face. From securing funding and building a strong team to developing a marketable product and managing growth, these strategies will empower startups to thrive in the dynamic business landscape. So, let's dive into the key strategies that can propel startups towards their goals. Securing Funding and Financial Management:
Startups should diversify their funding options beyond traditional methods like bank loans, considering angel investors, venture capital, crowdfunding, and government grants. Developing a comprehensive financial plan, projecting expenses, revenue, and cash flow are crucial. Regularly monitoring financial metrics and adjusting the budget to maintain stability and credibility can also be of great help. Manage cash flow by ensuring timely customer payments, negotiating payment terms, and optimizing inventory management. Have contingency plans in place for unexpected financial challenges. Building a Strong Team:
Identify key roles and recruit individuals with relevant skills and passion for the startup's industry. Conduct thorough interviews, seek referrals, and leverage professional networks. Create a positive work environment, encourage open communication, recognize achievements, and provide professional development opportunities to retain and motivate employees. Facilitate regular team meetings, encourage cross-functional collaboration, and create channels for effective communication to leverage the collective intelligence of the team.
