2023.03.29 20:49 Return_Of_The_Derp What is gender? If it isn’t about sex, why do convos surrounding it usually involve the terms “male/man” or “female/woman”?

**This isn’t to cause a debate. Whenever I try to put an answer to what it is, it isn’t clear in my mind and I have a sort of abstract idea of what it is, but I wouldn’t be able to put it into words if someone asked me to. I want to get a better understanding of it because some of the explanations I’ve gotten are a bit puzzling and left me more confused. Does gender = social roles? Does it have to do with social “masculinity/femininity”? Is non-binary about sex or gender? If gender and sex are different, why is they closely associated and seem to overlap?

2023.03.29 20:47 ThrowRA888816 When do I (24M) ask my friend (22F) to become my girlfriend (again)?

Four months ago I met this girl in my city. We started going on dates a month after we met and have been going on countless dates since then. Things were going at a normal pace for “pre-label” dating or whatever, went on 1-2 dates a week for the first month. Things were fantastic, we have a lot of chemistry, have lots in common, similar goals, sexually compatible, and love each others’ presence. Anyways
She and I both started requesting to see each other a lot more, and essentially we started spending most of our non committed time together, including sleeping over. One week we saw each other every day of the week, and I came to the realization I wanted her to be my girlfriend, so I asked.
She told me she really liked me but was going into dating without commitment immediately in mind. She said she will be exclusive with me, but doesn’t want to be in a relationship yet. I was okay with it, it made me feel good to be exclusive, but the second part is getting to me now.
It’s been a month since she said that, and the amount of time we spend together has only increased since then, and so have my feelings for her. We’ve started doing a lot more “relationship” type things like sharing items, feeding each other, talking much more in-depth about feelings and personal problems, helping out with chores, etc. It’s starting to really feel like a relationship without the commitment.
I don’t necessarily like the lack of commitment. It makes me a little uncomfortable. I have to dodge using the word girlfriend when describing her to my friends and family and it’s awkward. Everyone asks me why because it sounds like a relationship when I describe what we do and I have to awkwardly answer with “I’m not sure why she isn’t my girlfriend…”
I don’t understand her hang up, and why she doesn’t want to commit to a label like “girlfriend” or “relationship”.
Should I ask her again soon if she wants to be my girlfriend, or just keep waiting for her to bring it up?
Any insight or advice on what I should is much appreciated, thanks!
TL;DR Asked girl if she wants to be my girlfriend a month ago, she said no. Wondering when/if I should ask again?

2023.03.29 20:47 UtahUtopia What’s the point of reporting short interest if its self-reported and not verified? Are there repercussions for lying?

I am very smooth-brained but appreciate the few wrinkles regularly formed on SS.
As the title implies, I’m a bit confused. I keep hearing that short interest is self-reported on SS but then this makes no sense: from the SEC:
https://www.sec.gov/investopubs/regsho.htm
  1. Where can I obtain information on short sales?
To increase the transparency surrounding short sale transactions, several SROs are providing on their websites daily aggregate short selling volume information for individual equity securities. The SROs are also providing website disclosure on a one-month delayed basis of information regarding individual short sale transactions in all exchange-listed equity securities. Hyperlinks to short sale data provided by specific SROs are provided at the following website: http://www.sec.gov/answers/shortsalevolume.htm.
The SROs also publish monthly statistics on short interest in securities that trade on their markets. Short interest is the aggregate number of open short sale positions. Short interest does not address the number of failures to deliver that may have occurred or may occur in connection with these short sales.
Short interest for NYSE stocks can be found at: NYSE Exchange Proprietary Market Data TAQ NYSE Group Short Sales
Short interest for Nasdaq stocks can be found at: http://www.nasdaqtrader.com/Trader.aspx?id=ShortInterest.
Short interest for over-the-counter equity securities can be found at:Â Equity Short Interest (finra.org).
There also are many commercial websites and some newspapers that offer this information. If you enter the words “short interest” into most Internet search engines, you’ll quickly find websites that can provide this information.
Thank you kind apes who answer!

In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Black Adam has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone. Also known as ?????? ????

Production companies : Warner Bros. Pictures.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Black Adam would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As

Black Adam neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).

“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Black Adam, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Black Adam.)

“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Black Adam, we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting.Maybe 'resetting' wasn't a good term.only

one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise

. "By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful. There's nothing so wrong with “Black Adam” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Black Adam” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for

all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.

It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naive delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Black Adam” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy,

Jerry."Black Adam " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.

In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Black Adam” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film. “They kept that all the way under wraps, and I didn't know until maybe a day or two before the premiere,” he recently said Black Adam (2022) FULLMOVIE ONLINE Is Black Adam Available On Hulu? Black Adam has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a Black Adam call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, Wakanda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million. This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Black Panther in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strongly throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second-highest-grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. an improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while Wakanda Forever's 84% is Black Adamr to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Black Panther' s 96%. The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).

As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months. Black Adam, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Thor: Love and Thunder, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now. Black Adam came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grasses and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact ) , which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's Black Adam to grossing four times it's $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget, though a number of international markets have yet to open. Finishing up the top five is Smile, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and a global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million. The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Black Adam opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Black Adam, which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh-place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8 million.

2023.03.29 20:44 PuzzleheadedAd6487 Need some advice to start off the right way

So my plan right now is:
- learn 10 new (optimized core 2k/6k) words per day
- Do 1 Genki chapter per week (including vocab and Worbook)
Grammar wise I surely want to work through Genki 1 and Genki 2.
With the vocabulary I'm thinking about starting Immersion and sentence mining at around 2k words learned from the Core 2k/6k deck
So my questions regarding this plan are:
- should I first fully study the Genki vocab before starting with the grammar'
- should I make the Genki Anki decks myself?
- should I additionally do a Kanji Anki deck? (if yes which one?)
- Any other tips for my plan?
Thank you guys in advance, I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

2023.03.29 20:44 DenebianSlimeMolds I habitually go to sleep between 3 and 4 and often wake up 6 hours later. When should I see a "dawn effect" on my blood glucose levels?

62 yo male, 5'8", 176lbs, Ashkenazi, California, High Blood Pressure, Enalapril & Tamsulosin. BP measured on waking is usually 110 +/- 5 and going to sleep 120 +/- 10. I've had high blood pressure since 2000 or so, almost always handled very well by 10mg enalapril twice a day.
I've started "paranoid keto", which is a type of keto where I try to play self-scientist and measure my glucose reaction to various packaged foods (tortillas, breads, protein bars, chocolate snacks) that claim to be keto by measuring my glucose and ketone levels when I wake up, then after eating only the sample food, at 1, 2 and 3-hour intervals.
I've noticed that when I measure my glucose with a fingerprick about 15-30 minutes after I get up, which can be from 9am to 11am, it is often 103 or so. It will subside and be under 100.
So googling for morning effect of blood glucose levels, I can only find sources that say "It usually happens between 2 and 8 a.m." which I would think refers to people with more typical eating and sleeping hours. But maybe not.
What is the morning effect of blood glucose level for people with shifted sleeping times? Or with shifted sleeping times and a late dinner compared to most (often I'll be eating up until midnight, crashing around 3am)
And is a morning glucose level regularly around 103+/-2 measured at 10am +/1 1 hour after crashing around 3am +/- 1 hour anything to be concerned over?
I asked three AIs:
I find it notable that bard refuses to answer, did it understand my question and have ethical or liability issues answering it?
Meanwhile, bing provides citations to its last answer, but the citations do not go to sources that answer the question and it's answer conflicts with chatGPT's answer, and chatGPT does not provide citations. Bing does provide what should be a better search: "(dawn effect for people who sleep late](https://www.google.com/search?q=dawn+effect+for+people+who+sleep+late)" but actually googling that is pretty ineffective.

2023.03.29 20:44 axolotl-tiddies Please help: chronic sinusitis is making me miserable and medication worsened my symptoms

I’ll go into more detail below, but I’m getting desperate and I just need some advice. I’ve had an extremely bad sinus infection for 2 years now (started Jan 2021), but only just got a diagnosis for it in Jan 2023 because of difficulty getting seen/misdiagnosed as allergies.
Up until the diagnosis, my ONLY symptom was unusual postnasal drainage: hardened chunks of mucus (?) in the sort of shape/size of a chewed up wad of gum. Color would vary from dark yellow to green to bloody, and since it was hardened it would be sharp and scratch me as it descended from the nasopharynx. I could not cough it out, to remove it I would have to use tweezers and reach back in my throat. It would also come out with non-solid drainage stuck to it that I assumed was mucus. I never had sinus pain/pressure, it was just this drainage.
When I finally got a diagnosis via a CT scan (which showed, in the doctor’s exact words, an “absolutely raging case of chronic sinusitis”), I was prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics and referred to an ENT. The antibiotics helped for about a week and I stopped having drainage, then it came back with more symptoms. I was now having consistent pressure/pain in my sinuses and headaches, as well as the drainage. The pain gradually worsened until 2 weeks ago when I was finally able to see the ENT.
She looked around with the scope and said there was significant inflammation but only a few small nasal polyps, and she also mentioned that the non-solid postnasal drainage I experience with the chunks is pus and not mucus. She prescribed 21 days of doxycycline hyclate 100mg, 7 days of prednisone (which I have completed), and several months of a steroid that I add to my neilmed sinus rinse. I won’t see her again until May.
The pain is not improving. It’s getting in the way of my schoolwork because I’m so exhausted and just want to lay down and rest my head. It seems to get worse in late afternoon/evening when I become miserable. My head feels so full. I’ve taken otc sinus pressure/pain medication a few times but it doesn’t always help.
Is there anything else I can do? Why has the medication made my symptoms worse? Do I need to wait it out or is this concerning?
Obligatory: 21F, 5’7, 120lbs, white, taking zoloft and vyvanse as well as aforementioned sinus meds, no smoking, occasional social drinking (like once a month), never had covid

I’ve made a profile on Seeking. I have 4 high quality photos (I model) but I will add a couple more to showcase my hobbies. I’m excellent at writing so I’m confident in my bio, but I’m going to continue to polish it and make it an even more enjoyable read.
I understand 19 is very young, but I’ve been told many times how “mature, independent, wordly, etc” I am for my age (is that true? I think so!🤞). I am confident and spend a lot of time cultivating my skills, earning an income (I have 2 jobs, one of which is my own business) and perfecting my appearance. If I connect well with someone, I believe I could be a very good companion (I’m not afraid/uncomfortable with intimacy whatsoever:) ) However, I told myself that if I was going to pursue surgaring that I would not settle for anything.
I live in the LA County area. I’m use to being around very wealthy people in the modeling world. My goal is a relationship with someone willing to provide a generous monthly allowance at the beginning of each month. I’m well traveled, I’m independent, I have no debt, my own car, my own place. I don’t “need” to pursue an SR if I don’t want to. If I am going to spend hours getting ready & be the best version of myself for someone I wouldn’t normally spend time with, I want it to be worth my time. I spend my week working very hard, volunteering, building my portfolio, and studying, and the only type of SR I’m interested in is one that is discreet, has a high monthly allowance, and helps maintain the high maintenance lifestyle I’ve built for myself. My question is for SBs mainly, but I’d be happy to hear input from SDs as well. How many POTS did you talk/meet with before finding an arrangement that was satisfactory? And for SBs with a higher monthly allowance, what is your arrangement like and do you have any advice about being clear about your high expectations from the beginning?
You all will probably start seeing a lot more posts from me in the future, be prepared!;)

SJK(T) Batu Caves Badge
Found my old primary school pengawas vest and saw the badge, looked cool enough to share. If y'all didn't know, SJKT Batu Caves is like within the compound of the Batu Caves temple which is why you can see the stairs going up the mountain. (FYI before the current rainbow colours the steps used to be red and white as you can see it in the bagde). There's also a peacock, 2 bunga raya (hibiscuses) and a computer. The three words below are அன்பு(Anbu), அறிவு(Arivu), ஆன்மிகம்(Aanmeegam) which mean love, knowledge and spirituality in that order.

2023.03.29 20:43 Accomplished_Print83 1L Tips for those starting/considering law school

I'm 24 years old, and I'm almost finished with 1L. It's been a humbling, rewarding, miserable experience.
Here are random takeaways:
(1) Don't pretend to be someone you're not.
This might sound like an obvious but it's unintentional when it happens.
When law school begins, everything is so foreign and it's a matter of figuring out what strategy works for you. But a lot of figuring out what's best for you is first determining what doesn't work for you. This isn't just in relation to academics (i.e., the way you study, being top of the class). But also in relation to your career.
What drove me to attend law school centered around helping marginalized communities, and most of that stemmed from personal, negative dealings with the justice system.
But November-January hit, and it was time to think about summer internships. For some this means keeping an open mind and applying to anything that sounds interesting. To others it means applying to the specific field you have your sights set on (e.g., big law or public interest). There is no wrong career path. You go into what you're good at and what you enjoy.
I was not meant to belong in big law, nor did I see myself thriving in it. But I was encouraged by my dean to apply to a popular big law program (Pledge to Diversity). I saw it as an opportunity to make $4,000 a week. Visions began going through my mind of traveling anywhere with my husband, lalala living the life...
A few of my friends who applied also came to school to help marginalized communities. But the thought of "Starbucks everyday" or "getting nails done whenever I want" led them to the exact same position as me.
I was granted a couple huge interviews in my spring semester. Part of me was beyond thrilled, feeling like a badass and so proud of myself. The other part of me felt selfish for going against what I came to law school to do, in addition to the fact that I wasn't genuinely interested in big law subject areas. I tried convincing myself that I was open to learning transactional law - when I actually love arguing in court and the idea of reading contracts made me gag.
Additionally, I felt so out of place at big law networking events. Conversations felt forced because I didn't know what I wanted and always left early because of how bored I was. But public defense networking events were beyond exciting for me.
Still I flipped back and forth on what I wanted my future to hold... Do I want to make an impact on people's lives that need it the most, or do I want to live that luxurious, lalala fantasy life with Husband? Or is there a middle ground career?
To be clear, I don't judge anyone going into big law. I just suck at being someone I'm not, and those big law companies saw right through me. The interviews went amazing, but none of them chose me. Perhaps because I never gave them corporate answers. I gave them I-want-to-help-people type of answers.
I know this because in my last interview, the Partner said, "I'm not sure if you can really make a profound impact on people's lives in the way that you're thinking in this field." I tried correcting it and said I was aware of that and open to anything.
I was so upset at myself for being too real and not giving a better I'm-here-for-the-corporation-and-only-the-corporation answers. But the cliche applies: everything happens for a reason. The day after being rejected, I received an offer at the state's public defense office, something I am so thrilled for.
It's okay to not know what you want to do. It's also okay to change your mind and change career paths. It's even more okay to get rejected. It's not personal but in fact a blessing.
(2) How much you're pushed is a reflection of how much you push yourself.
I was in the top 10% for two of my classes. But I worked. my. ass. off.
To begin, law school is hard for everyone. The degree of difficulty, however, depends on what you want out of the experience.
If you're looking to be in the top, these are my tips below. (NOTE: THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE LEGAL WRITING) Yes, it's a lot. But that's what being the top requires. Do ALL of this, and I promise you will find yourself in a much better position than a good chunk of your classmates.
You'll quickly realize after starting school that the top people in the class are those who consistently make use of their resources. Don't be one of those people who are "too good" for additional help. That's one way to be humbled.
So much of 1L is effort. Yes, everyone is intelligent. Yes, people make themselves seem brilliant during cold calls. But what separates the As from Bs or even the A-'s is the ability to keep pushing when no one else is and to really hone in on what your professor wants.
The second semester will feel like hell for everyone, particularly for those aiming to be in the top. At a certain point, every week will feel like a mission to get through, like you're on survival mode just trying to stay sane.
I went through rollercoasters of riding highs - where I received a high grade on a test - and then two days later a humbling low that reminds me I'm not as smart as I thought. It's a mind-fuck, but it builds character, and you'll come out a better human being.
Law school just moves so fast that you have to take the L, pick yourself right back up, and move on because there will be more to come, just like there will be more great moments to come. It's far from a perfect career.

(3) Personal problems are going to happen - and it's okay
Don't forget to acknowledge your true emotions and health outside of school.
Second semester has been hell for me due to severe medical issues. I just received surgery last week during spring break, but it was torture sitting through classes in excruciating pain.
While I dealt with medical issues, a few of my friends went through divorces, some went through family deaths, etc.
Don't forget to take care of yourself. It feels different when you're actually going through it. You can't perform well in school if you're not mentally and physically healthy. If journaling works for you, talking to a therapist, antidepressants, running, hiking, etc., keep doing it.
When we're focused away on something so challenging and time-consuming, it's easy to forget that an outside world exists. So just remember to do things that keep you grounded and remind you why you love life. Take yourself out of the legal world when possible.

(4) Your reputation starts from Day 1.
It's so crucial to be professional in law school. Things spread around fast, and the way you conduct yourself shapes people's interaction with you. So don't be that cocky asshole that raises his hand and asks absurd, irrelevant questions (i.e., a gunner).
And don't be weird. Last semester, several female students talked about how handsome my criminal law professor was. There was a group chat that went around with some of the women referring to him as "Daddy" while sexualizing him. This man's wife works at the law school, both have children, and both are extremely well respected in the legal community nationwide. It was sexual harassment and made many feel uncomfortable. Just remember you could be working for these professors one day as an assistant.
Lastly, the more generous you are with people, the more generous they will be with you. I share my outlines with several people, and in exchange they give me notes when I'm sick and outlines they've discovered. It also lets people know you're sincere.

(5) Other Stuff
If you're feeling brave in class, go ahead and volunteer. It's great, and the professor gets excited to see many participants.
Keep in mind though that when you voluntarily share your thoughts, the professor will often stick with you in a dialogue in which she offers different scenarios (hypotheticals) where the facts are changed, and the question becomes, "So now, what do you think happens if it's [no longer this] but [this]?" And it'll be a tennis match before she calls on someone else for their views - and may even come back to you if the other person has a contrasting viewpoint, in which you can give reasons to defend your answer or change your answer.
Changing your answer is so okay. At first I was so nervous to volunteer in the event I was wrong. But almost every single person - if not all - will get an answer wrong at some point. Law school normalizes being wrong because you're just starting out your journey. Make all the mistakes now and learn from them before the bar.

This was long, I know. But I hope it's helpful. If you have any other questions or tips, please share!

2023.03.29 20:42 MisterMegatron A Serious Critique: "Absolute Batman: The Killing Joke" is mediocre at best

This post contains spoilers for Absolute Batman: The Killing Joke. I believe I have marked all of the spoilers but may have missed one or two.
I recently purchased Absolute Batman: The Killing Joke (30th Anniversary Edition), and I was SO excited to read it. I'd heard from this subreddit how it's the best Joker story to ever be released (other essentials being A Death in the Family, The Devil's Advocate, and, arguably, The Batman Who Laughs). Although I knew the plot of TKJ already, I didn't know how all the pieces fit together. I also got the deluxe edition, which included concept art, scripts, cover illustrations, and the original version of the comic from 1988.

The Good

As soon as I turned to the comic itself, I was blown away by the quality of the art style. The colors were vibrant, and I would often stop and stare at character's expressions to appreciate the detail (e.g., the Joker's unkempt hair, the wide eyes of the doppelgänger in Joker's cell when Batman grabbed his collar, the blood and coffee Barbara spilled when she was shot). I also liked how, as the main plot progressed, the authors fleshed out the Joker's backstory in parallel. It almost makes you feel bad for him. Almost.
There are also a couple good one-liners (e.g., the Joker preferring for his past being multiple choice) and moral dilemmas. For example, the Joker insists that everyone is just one bad day away from insanity, and that's exactly what made him the Joker to begin with: he joined a payroll heist, things went south, and he fell into a vat of acid, becoming the Joker. However, he fails to account for when the "average man" isn't broken by unfortunate events. Jim wasn't. Batman wasn't. Barbara wasn't. They all adapted and kept going, despite what life threw at them.

The Bad

Unfortunately, this is where the praise ends. The whole comic feels rushed and incomplete, as it skips over scenes the reader might be interested in seeing such as:
Speaking of which, it's time I revealed what really happened at the end of THE KILLING JOKE: as our protagonists stood there in the rain laughing at the final joke, the police lights reflecting in the pools of filthy water underfoot, the Batman's hand reached out and...
That's it. He doesn't even say what "really happened". The quote ends after the ellipses. Bolland just leaves us on another cliffhanger. Did the Batman take a chance on rehabilitating the Joker? Did the Joker return to Arkham, implying Batman did things by the book like Jim asked?

Comparing The Killing Joke to Other Batman Runs

Some say comparison is the thief of joy. I agree, and for the sake of this post, I do not care.
I'll admit, even though I've watched animated Batman storylines for as long as I can recall, I am fairly new to the Batman comic runs. I've started with the "essentials", including Batman: Hush (8/10), Absolute Batman: The Killing Joke (5.5/10), The Batman Who Laughs (3/10; could not finish due to confusing plot and random introduction of characters), Batman Knightfall (currently reading and thoroughly enjoying), and Batman: The Black Mirror (have not started but looks good). I tentatively plan on getting A Death in the Family at some point so I can experience the Jason Todd story. However, if it ends up being like TKJ, where it is centered around pure shock value resulting from a horrible circumstance, then I will likely skip it. If it dives into more nuance of Batman's regret of not killing the Joker while he had the opportunity and the accompanying moral dilemmas, then I'll give it a chance. I kind of already got that piece by reading Batman: Hush (Batman almost kills the Joker after Catwoman nearly dies at an opera performance. Jason Todd is "resurrected" but was actually Clayface), so the jury remains undecided as of today on the necessity of reading A Death in the Family.
In particular, when you compare the origin story of the Joker to Bane, as detailed in Knightfall, TKJ pales in comparison to the amount of time Knightfall spends on Bane. The Joker's origins occur over 10 pages; Bane's origins occur over at least 45 pages (and counting... Knightfall's first volume spans 630 pages). Also, the authors of TKJ specify that TKJ is supposed to be a comic about the Joker, not Batman. If this is true, why don't we get more of the Joker? There's so much untapped potential involving the Joker's backstory, his escape from Arkham, and how he might attempt to reconcile failing to "break" Jim/Batman/Barbara. I realize I don't have the full context for these events, but I would have appreciated a small glimpse of them somewhere in TKJ.
I know DC is fully capable of writing longer stories, and I'm disappointed that didn't happen with TKJ.

Should You Read This Comic?

As one of my favorite villains says, the answer is multiple choice. It depends on your preferences because while some of you may want to experience the comic itself, others may enjoy the 2016 TKJ film more and not need to read the comic.
  1. You are interested in the origins of the Joker and don't mind reading a short, 53-page comic. You might not have all of your questions answered, yet there is still a coherent plot, spectacular art, and interesting characters. You can either purchase the standalone comic or get the deluxe edition which includes more content (53 pages in regular; 288 pages in deluxe). Conclusion: Read the comic
  2. While it might be cool to know how the Joker became The Clown Prince of Crime, it's not pivotal to you because the Joker exists as he is, known origin story or not. You are content reading a plot summary online or watching the movie, whether in its entirety or as clips on YouTube. Conclusion: Skip the comic. Read summaries or watch the movie
  3. You don't care for Batman. For some reason, you are only interested in Squirrel Girl, yet here you are, reading my post. Conclusion: Do whatever you want I guess...

Conclusion

I don't think TKJ is a "bad" comic.
A bad comic lacks a coherent plot, fails at building a world you care about as a reader, and has boring characters. TKJ is not any of these things, yet it remains a mediocre comic at best, hence my 5.5/10 rating.
My primary motive for writing this post was to vent my frustration that the comic wasn't longer and didn't do more with the plot or characters. Much like the recent-ish Star Wars sequel trilogy, it suffers from missed potential. When I saw the length of the book, I was expecting something similar to Hush or Knightfall. Something I can finish over the course of a few days or weeks. Instead, what I got was a mere 53 pages, and I finished it in less than 30 minutes.
I've typed this post without doing extensive research on the making of the comic. Everything you've read is from my brain alone, not the Internet or any YouTube analysis videos. If I'm somehow missing a follow-up to TKJ or you think I'm a complete idiot for disliking parts of this comic, please tell me. This is a "Discussion" post, after all.
Cheers!

2023.03.29 20:42 dayvancowgirl Some streetwear branding tips!

Hey everyone, I've been working as a manufacturer for streetwear brands for several years now and I thought I'd share some tips I've learned from my experience. Being successful in streetwear comes down to a lot of factors, but having strong branding is absolutely critical. Here are some things to think about when starting a brand (in no particular order).
1. Check if your name is taken.
It is all too often the case that I want to check out a new brand, go to google them, and then can't find anything about them in the first couple pages because their name is so generic, or worse, another clothing company with the same name comes ahead of them in the results (this has happened to people I know!)
Search your brand name on social media sites and google to make sure the name is free. Ideally it will not be used by any existing company, but at the very least it shouldn't be used by another company that makes clothing, as well as clothing-related items like bags, jewelry, leather goods, etc. If you want to trademark your name later on, you ill have a tougher time if your brand name and logo are too similar to existing companies in the same industry. You should also run a TESS search to see if someone has already registered it.
2. Make your products memorable with interesting details.
There is a whole world of interesting decorations you could be adding to your clothing beyond the usual screenprint or embroidery, as well as trims that will make your branding stronger by making your products unique.
3. Stock accessories for a range of prices.
Everyone has t-shirts and hoodies, but not everyone has accessories and gift items. You could stock stuff like beanie hats or scarves, or even enamel pins or pens. These items are usually at a lower price point so they make good upsells to increase your average order value, and you can stand out by offering a type of product few others do. Having a range of prices means not only that there's something for everyone, but also that someone has more different items they might want to add to their order.
4. "Create an outfit" from your collection.
When you design your collection, depending on its size, your goal should be to have a few outfits someone can make from your collection. There should be a variety of products, so if someone wants to buy entire outfits from you, they can. Ask yourself these questions: If you mix and match the tops and bottoms, do they all look good together? Do the garments look like they could fit into an outfit with pieces from brands you're competing with?
5. Add value with your brand story.
Nowadays, a brand has to have a story behind it, about the founder(s), the way the company came to be, how the products are made or something like that. Brand stories include things like a brand creating employment for some marginalized group by hiring them at a cut and sew facility, or how the founder overcame some kind of adversity or is unique in some way that makes them stand out. Stories can also be more abstract and about the design concept, though you should ground them in talking about your goals as a designeartist. Basically, people want to know what is special about your brand and they want to take home a bit of that specialness when they buy your product.
6. Learn as much as you can about garment manufacturing.
It's okay if you're starting from scratch at the beginning of your journey, but you need to have a growth mindset in order to succeed. Fashion changes quickly and you need to be able to react quickly to problems with your business or new opportunities. It will help immensely if you know as much as possible about the products you're selling.
There are all kinds of manufacturing questions that will arise that you will be able to answer yourself to make the process go more smoothly. For example, sometimes clients sent me garments that aren't even possible to make (or would be very unfeasible or prohibitively expensive) and we have to waste time reworking the design.
Learn about the different types of printing, garment washes, embroideries, and other decorations. Learn how to make mock ups and tech packs on Adobe Illustrator. Definitely learn about fabrics: the basics, like what different weights are like, and the differences between knits and wovens, but also what sorts of things are possible with your favorite fabrics.
7. Collect email addresses and phone numbers.
Social media isn't reliable for building an audience. Ultimately you're not in control of it. If you build up a great audience on Tiktok, then you're out of luck if the government decides to ban it, or your account gets banned, or something. It would suck to lose all the work you put into building an audience.
To fix this, collect email addresses and phone numbers. Your list will always be your own and you can make sure it's safe and you always have a copy. You can always use a different email list provider and upload your list again. Social media is necessary of course, but don't forgo collection emails and numbers as you don't want to be totally screwed if something happens.
Anyway, hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to DM me or post here. Like I said I do manufacture clothing, so I can answer questions from the manufacturer side as well.

2023.03.29 20:42 Recovering-sexaddict On the brink of losing everything. Need help.

I have been with my wife for nearly 10 years and married for 4. We have a toddler together. About a year ago she caught me sexting with someone from Reddit and was rightfully livid. I spent the following months seeking out therapy, attending a few meetings, and doing a little work in a sex addicts workbook. However, I always felt like I could control myself and the treatments were a bit overkill.
I was able to continue on this way for about 6-9 months but I stopped going to meetings, didn’t do book work and essentially just felt like I had beaten it. Eventually I slipped. And once I slipped it was right back down the rabbit hole. I kept trying to stop but I fell into a pattern of acting out for a day or two, stopping for 2-6 weeks and repeat.
Well my wife just caught me again. She is devastated and I am on the brink of destroying everything I’ve built over the past decade. I see that I am now powerless to simply float through life controlling things on my own and I am ready to go through real treatment to maintain my family. They are by far the most important thing in my life and to lose them over something so stupid is just incomprehensible.
Like many, I am feeling massive guilt and shame for my actions and the pain that I have caused. But it has awoken the seriousness of the situation and I am ready to do the real work to get myself out of this behavioral pattern and save what’s most important to me. I am on day 3 now and I know it will be a long road to regain her trust but you can only go one day at a time.
To be honest, I’m not entirely sure why I felt the need to post this but any and all help is very much appreciated. I guess it feels good to just put it all in words and own what I have done. Thanks again for any advice.

2023.03.29 20:40 datatenzing Let's talk ecommerce: The numbers today and how to give yourself the best shot at success - Lessons learned from taking a brand from $12k to $2.5 million in 3 years profitably

It was suggested I make a full post from a comment in another thread.
I work in ecommerce as a fractional brand owner, consultant, and have a software company around data collection designed for the Shopify + Klaviyo ecosystem. We work with brands ranging from a few hundred thousand a year to $80+ million. In that past I ran Marketing for a consumer hardware company that started on Kickstarter and was later acquired for around $50 million.
So I've seen ecommerce from all sides up close and personal including retail relationships and large partnerships with massive brands.

I've now made the transition to Data First ecommerce marketing without exception.
Here's my advice for anyone looking to start a store or scale an existing store.
This is a condensed version of my exact playbook.

Part 1: The reality of where we're at within the ecommerce landscape
The average DTC ecommerce company spends more on advertising than the cost of the goods being sold.
The markup of between 4-10x is what they rely on to makeup for the difference.
As a consumer, you're actually paying for them to advertise.
We're all collectively paying Facebook and Google for product discovery, which in turn makes everything more expensive.
How warped is that?
Adding to the irony, most brands would be thrilled with 2.5-3x if they could sell in bulk which is what they would get from a wholesale account.
So if you can come up with a way to move volume, brands would love you.
(sell through is a separate issue in retail and wholesale)
The costs associated with digital advertising are so high these days that it prevents growth for a lot of brands.
For small brands this is causing cashflow crunches that shouldn't be there.
(add in rising costs of goods, shipping, and inflation...things are tough right now)
This is especially true in CPG where a 12 pack of carbonated flavored water has to sell for $48.
This isn't sustainable.
We have an unhealthy obsession with digital advertising.
While everyone is focusing on attribution and being told that email is the answer for retention, everyone is largely ignoring the shift continuing to take place in digital advertising and the increases in the costs associated.
Email addresses aren't free and few even track the email signup to conversion rate.
Even well optimized ads often have CACs that are higher than the first order AOV product costs.
The fact that a CAC to LTV payback period exists is all you need to know about how inefficiently things are setup.
You're betting that enough people return in order to cover the initial amount of money that you spent to get someone to shop the first time.
Madness.
The math just doesn't check out anymore for a lot of brands, our addiction to digital media has allowed for monopolies to dictate prices, profit billions a week and essentially forces people into taking outside investment.
Maybe you'll go viral?
Our current systems highlight a trend that doesn't benefit the little guy in most situations and in fact has been systematically setup to prevent people from growing.
Bottom line, building a following is time consuming and expensive.

Part 2: What current optimization looks like and the gaps
The average brand for every $1 million in revenue will spend about $300k in ad spend to do so or 30%
The average brand fully optimized will spend around $200k to do so or 20%.
This translates to a 5x blended ROAS.
But it's one and done.
This figure incorporates return customers into it as it's a blended average.
When we look at a paid acquisition channel:
A super great ad campaign might do 5x.
Most brands would be thrilled with ROAS of between 2-3x.
But on average across all of them with first touch, it's likely you're somewhere around 2x being considered good.
The same brand is chasing at max around an 8% conversion rate on a day without a big sale or an email boost.
They are actually happy with anything over 2%.
The truth is, there's a massive amount of inefficiency in ecommerce.
But when you take a deeper look, it becomes quite clear why this is the case.
There's 9 points in the customer journey that can all play a role in conversion for a first purchase.
Audience Creative Ads Landing Pages Popups Offers Product Pages Price Product
Often they aren't aligned.
The audience isn't known. The creative doesn't speak to that audience. The ads don't stand out in a feed. The landing pages are trying to just sell. Popups don't offer any real value and show only once. Offers are the same for all traffic sources. Product pages lack all the necessary information. Price is usually inflated or unclear on the value. Product looks the same as other competitors.
The truth is, most of the time, website owners are just too close to the problem to see the issues.
We're all very good at creating the company journey, we're all pretty bad at creating the customer journey.
A lot of this stems from not knowing your audience and not seeking to understand your audience.
Your success starts with attracting a quality audience, one that is looking for a solution and has the budget necessary to purchase from you.
It's about molding your copy and content to match what they are looking for while providing the value needed for them to feel comfortable making a purchase.

Part 3: The framework we recommend to everyone these days even those starting out
Good rule of thumb - product should have at least 5-6x margin on it.
If product costs $1 - sell it at $5-6
Here's the exact framework we recommend to brands from sub $5k a month to $6mil+ a month:
  1. Pick your hero product, offer a reduced price through paid acquisition channels only, hide the url from search or gate the offer by requiring a signup form with data collection to access the link. Cap this at one item per purchase per person, first purchase only.
  2. Put them in a separate welcome flow, if they leave the page or don't add something to the cart, they won't be able to access the offer, some will buy at full price, some won't, on email number 3 which should be about 15 hours the first email, give them the link to the offer again. If they don't sign up you can double tap them later, with a smaller offer.
  3. Collect data during signup connected to revenue, orders, and conversion rate, baseline the conversion funnel, aka subscription to conversion rate.
  4. You should average at around 15% opt-in rate and at least 20% subscription to conversion rate. This means for every 100 people that click on your ad, you should see 3-4 purchases (3-4% conversion rate from cold traffic). Your CPC should be around $0.50-1.00 which means you're paying between $50 and $100 for 3-4 purchases which puts your CAC at anywhere between $12 - $33.
  5. If you're not hitting these numbers, you have a CRO issue or quality of audience issue. Figure this out through data relationships.
  6. Use data for repeat and return purchases to understand likely buying periods, generally, the top 25% will purchase again within about 8 days from the first purchase, top 50% will do so in around 16 days, top 75% 30 days, 90% within 60 days, and 99% can take up to 5 months. (these are percentiles, ignore the 90%+)
  7. Know your numbers on repeat purchases and offer discounts and bundle suggestions relevant to existing purchases accordingly. Don't go too early, but know your confidence intervals based on the sale number and automate all of this.
  8. Email campaigns should now be automated and straight forward, product releases, company updates, customer spotlights, and occasional sales (though you really shouldn't need sales anymore if you have your automation setup proper) this should reduce your emails so people will look forward them again.
  9. Stop tracking ads by ROAs, instead pay attention to the cohorts that are driving repeat revenue by signup data patterns and answers they provide to determine trends on quality. Now adjust your entire acquisition strategy to find more people with patterns like those that are regularly converting more than once.
  10. Become data first, profit and grow.
Sidenote: This framework works on repeat for multiple purchases. If you're one and done YOU REALLY NEED TO COLLECT DATA AND SCALE to move into retail distribution. Buyers want to see sell through and knowledge about your ideal customer and what matters to them. They have large email lists, but you need to help them connect the dots.
If you have data, it's that simple. It's all offers and timing.
Some of the things to really pay attention to - CAC to 1st purchase AOV - this is pretty much your guiding light on if you have a profitable business.
It's all about getting the best margins in whatever business you start.

Part 4: The exact popup strategy we use to collect usable data to leverage into strategy
This is the exact framework we use with clients to grow their businesses through data collection.
You can do this with a combination of current tools on the market right now.
(Disclosure: we have a tool that combines all these as our software and provides context relevant to revenue, orders, and conversions but there are alternatives on the market that don't provide the context.)
(This post isn't about our product though, we're not a public app, so use what you've got.)
If you're a small company multiple tools will cost you around $400-$600 a month.
If you're more than $10 mil revenue multiple tools will cost you $4000+ per month.
The following framework assumes that you've realized that you should be using multi-step forms with live data collection to collect intent data during a popup offer beyond just an email or a phone number.
Not sure that these are? Just Google "multi step forms intent data" and click on the top non-sponsored post.
Statistically 50% of people will never open your email and emails aren't free so at least trade for some valuable intent data from everyone that subscribes.
The below uses popups, some people hate popups, but they work really really well, find the highest intent purchasers and are a treasure trove of data collection prior to a purchase.
Whatever discount your providing is made up for by the amount of data you can collect and leverage globally across your entire marketing stack.
It's not a reduction in revenue but an investment into a higher conversion rate and optimized advertising.
This is a really important mind shift to embrace. Odds are you're spending so much money on advertising and really not getting any real qualitative value out of it.
Follow this framework:
Strike the right balance between data collection, conversion, and customer experience through popups.
Make them multi-step to collect data related to the customer journey as it matters to the customer. Make sure that you’re tying these data points and combinations to things like revenue, orders, and conversion rates.
Home Page Popup Clear offer 8-10 seconds after someone arrives
Landing Page Popup 20-30% scroll usually only targeted at your paid traffic Can split test different offers based on url or utm
Product Page Popup 45-60 seconds after landing page Depending on how you are sending traffic to this page, you can limit it to people having taken action on your home page or landing page forms e.g. if visitor dismissed Home Page or Landing Page form and not subscribed show Product Page Form, if not then do not show
Thank You Page Embed or Popup (prefer popup from results) Embedded post purchase survey OR Post purchase popup with the same questions (this one has a higher response rate)
Quiz Stand alone page after someone clicks on a link or a button Do not ask for an email Do not just present products at the end, instead send people to a landing page with the product results with context as to why they were selected, offer alternatives at the end
Quiz Follow Up Popup (for after people take quiz) 60% scroll tied to the landing pages with the quiz results Same offer as before, triggered only if quiz is completed Reduce the questions to complement ones asked in quiz By default to get to this page the quiz has to be completed
Yes this could be considered a lot of popups but people will only see one if they subscribe and at max they see 3 only if they hang out on a product page for a really long time.
The double tap on the product page makes the average business an additional 18-20% in revenue through signups and averages up to 40% subscription to conversion rate so it's super high intent data collection.
When we do data modeling we only use the signup forms, we do not use quiz or post purchase as they are both pre-purchase trend related during the discovery phase and post purchase is too limited to actually show anything more then trend data. Data on the upfront side is more reliable.
Part 4: Why Retention is really secondary acquisition and how to treat it appropriately
If people don't shop more than once you're likely going to take a hit to revenue.
Most retention strategies are actually secondary acquisition strategies facilitated by discounts.
Unlock free money from people that converted by automating from the customer journey perspective.
We are a largely discount adjusted society these days, so lean in strategically, knowing your margins.
Understand your cohorts based on intent signals to maximize revenue while balancing repeat purchase offers.
Some people purchase again in as little as 8 days some take 5 months. Most never purchase again.
As a general rule of thumb focus on the first 45 days for repeat purchase, through content and education post purchase and remove people from offers and sales. If the experience is good and there's a need they will come back within 45 days. This will maximize your CAC payback and prevent you from losing more margin via discounts.
Day 45-90 position offers to unlock that second purchase for people that didn't purchase again, go deeper on offers until they buy, pay attention to your unit economics to understand profit v. cac payback.
(Note exact times vary by cohort and data combination, so segment your list appropriately, or find a service that can help you do this, you'd be amazed what the proper data can tell you.)
During this period mix it up with offers that include bundles so you can raise the AOV, usually of the same or similar products they purchased. Also cross sell products other people with similar buying habits made as well to increase your odds of conversion.
This has been the blueprint for years. For most companies if people don't buy a second time in 45-90 days they never will at a percentage worth paying attention to.
They will wait for big sales periods or new product releases to dive back in to the customer pool.
You can tweak based on events and behavior but it's more effort than it's worth most of the time.
There is a downside though to running this playbook, when you couple this with normal occasional sales and specials, you really need to have your acquisition down solid.
If you do this cadence, people will be trained to ignore your offers and wait, so you'll usually have to bribe bigger on the discount ladder.
This will also impact your topline acquisition costs, you'll get more low quality people trained on discounts.
And you're going to do a lot of chasing people that won't come back when you start to not be able to distinguish between people that purchased because they wanted to vs. those that were just waiting for a sale.
I don't disagree with it, I've talked previously about torching lists if you don't get a sale in the first 90 days and just putting them on slow informational updates and only including them in on large sales and new product launches.
To me this isn't retention, it's milking the living shit out of someone that's taken an action and getting them drunk on discounts to continue purchasing.
It's successful if your margins can support it, but I've seen it being used as a crutch to drive revenue at all costs.
Reminder though, revenue is not profit.

Part 5: Goal of this post and Stats
I've tried to simplify this for a reddit post that people can find value in, this is a subset of more than 120,000 words that I've written about ecommerce over the last few years.
This approach is data first. As such a lot of agencies and other marketers hate it. Largely because it's an audit on all ideas and breaks everything down to simple mathematical testing.
You're running businesses and businesses are math.
The other reason people don't like this approach is that if you have enough of the right data, you don't need agencies and you quickly realize that they are largely spending time on the wrong things.
While we were building all the tests around these things for the last few years we looked at ecommerce as a blank slate, no rules.
So we opted to run our playbook on a commoditized good, good margin, but super competitive.
We decided against sales, leveraged 2x use discounts on signup, and have kept our ad creatives and campaigns to a minimum (40 creatives and 40 campaigns or so in 2.5 years, this is not a typo).
This goes against what all common advice is in ecommerce.
Stats on current store we own part of and run all marketing strategy for:
Financials:
Current Performance KPIS:
Assets:

Part 6: My take on modern ecommerce
Ecommerce brands that stay digital only should grow via two channels max (Facebook, Google) to between $2 million - $8 million a year in revenue and look to sell to Private Equity or Holding Company.
It's a sprint that with the right approach and funding can be done in less than 4 years with a valuation of between 1.8x - 3x depending on your margins. Without funding it will take slightly longer and you'll have to forego a salary.
On the low end this nets you out between $3.6 - $24 million for your work.
With a small team of 4 people you can all walk away with an average of between $225,000 per year to as much as $1.5 million a year if perfectly executed with all work done internally.
The trick here is that the value is 100% in the exit for most ecommerce businesses.
During heavy growth the majority of all profits have to be reinvested into inventory and marketing.

There is a trend to pay attention to though, the rise of the influencer and celebrity led brands.
Increasingly, creating a product isn't the hard part, marketing the product is the hard part. By and large most products are completely commoditized at this point and you'll have knockoffs popping up in a matter of months if you're product is successful. Brands take years to develop.
You're not Ryan Reynolds, if he's reading this, even he'll tell you that, you're not getting paid millions of dollars for movies and being paid by studios to be front and center promoting yourself across all the airwaves.
The amount of bought for press that allow celebrities to create successful businesses in spaces like booze (Teremana Tequila, Aviation Gin, Dos Hombres Mescal, Skinny Girl Vodka, etc.) which is largely all the same at the end of the day shouldn't be overlooked.
It's all marketing today, cost effective marketing and getting your product into hands at the most affordable price with a quality product that people look to purchase more of.

Last bit on this and I can't stress this part enough.
KPIs are largely outdated in today's marketing environment.
ROAS - Return on ad spend, shouldn't be measured in a fixed time frame. CTR - Click through rate, it's the quality not the quantity. CAC - cost to acquire a customer - I actually like this but narrow it cost to acquire a first time customer AOV - average order value - separate this by first purchase v. returning purchase
At the end of the day, micromanaging an ad account will not provide results, but taking a holistic look at your entire customer journey can provide outsized advantages.
If you can understand the quality of audience, then you can influence CAC, if you can influence CAC, then you can build sustainable growth models, if you can build sustainable growth models, you can build a profitable business.
If you follow the steps above and you meet the criteria, you'll know inside of 90 days if your business can be successful.
A closing note on data, near 100% of the people collecting it aren't collecting the right data, it's become something people check a box to rather than properly leverage. It's a complicated topic that isn't widely spoken about.
In truth there's a big difference between people that say they are "data-driven" and those that actively understand how to use data to drive efficiency increases.
All that said, for the love of all things, focus on building an audience first, it's 10 million times easier to succeed if you have an existing audience that is adjacent to your product and industry.
So here's where I tell you to sign up for my course and join a paid cohort of moderated Q&A sessions every Friday!
Entirely joking, there's no course, there's no newsletter.
I know how reddit gets with things like that.
If you have questions, drop them on this thread, if there's a lot of the same ones, for the sake of time I might just record a video to save my fingers from typing the same thing over and over.
Happy Wednesday and good luck!

Unfortunately, Black Adam is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest. While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.

2023.03.29 20:40 thebankofalbuquerque Sincere questions for the DRSGME community here

If anyone here could help me solidify my understanding of the objective here, I would be very appreciative.
I have read a good amount of the posts here and have read the info on this sub's dedicated website and I am intrigued enough to make a substantial investment and do my part to help get this train get a little further down the tracks, but I have a few questions that could help to get me over the hump and jump if the answers track with my understanding.
Although I'm doing my best to get educated, my current knowledge of stock trading isn't enough to get me comfortably participating. I get that all investment is a risk to some degree. It's just that IF I lose money, I want to have a clear understanding of HOW I lost that money. Let's say I have about 50k to buy shares with.
The questions I have for the sub (and please explain like I'm five).
  1. When the MOASS happens with the GME stocks or as it approaches, is there any chance of a scorned Wall Street pulling the rug out from under the whole operation by means of some new rule, regulation or other manner of fuckery or will they literally just be forced to pay up and eat it? (I'd personally never underestimate the depths that these types would sink to if they had to in order to maintain their status quo)
  2. Are those "hedgies" likely aware of what this community's goal is or it something that will hit their radars as more shares are DRS'd and the walls start closing in? What is likely going to be their response?
  3. When MOASS hits the sweet spot will everyone who DRS'd their shares have time to cash out like a boss or is there going to be some sort of mad dash to do so where the shares' value starts to plummet as more people sell?
  4. Does having the shares DRS'd make them more difficult to unload expeditiously? Like either at the time of MOASS or at any point before that if one just needed to? Is there a commitment to how long one must hold DRS shares once bought before being able to sell off?
  5. How close is the goal of MOASS to being a reality? At its current pace of growth, would anyone care to speculate on a time frame? Years? Months?
  6. I've read some crazy things and it may just be anyone's guess but are there any solid ideas about what might be the value of the shares when the bubble bursts? As in 50k could turn into $______? Or each share could be worth $______ when goal is achieved?
Everyone here I assume is aiming to have a considerable come up with this adventure and stick it to "the man" while doing it. I have to say, being a part of that sounds like a big cup of sign me the F up! I just want to better understand. I thank you for your time and for your patience of the poorly educated (me).

//@method XRequest: Object constructor. As this implements a singleton, the object can't be created calling the constructor, GetInstance should be called insteadfunction XRequest() { this.XHR = XRequest.CreateXHR();}XRequest.instance = null;//@method static GetInstance: Creates a singleton object of type XRequest. Should be called whenever an object of that type is required.//@return: an instance of a XRequest objectXRequest.GetInstance = function() { if(XRequest.instance == null) { XRequest.instance = new XRequest(); } return XRequest.instance;}//@method static CreateXHR: Implments a basic factory method for creating a XMLHttpRequest object//@return: XMLHttp object or nullXRequest.CreateXHR = function() { var xhr = null; var factory = [ function() { return new XMLHttpRequest(); }, function() { return new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); }, function() { return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } ]; for(var i = 0; i < factory.length; ++i) { var f = factory[i]; xhr = f(); if(xhr) return xhr; } return null;}XRequest.prototype.SetRequestHeader = function(name, value) { if(this.XHR) { this.XHR.setRequestHeader(name, value); }}XRequest.prototype.SendRequest = function(args) { var async = true; var type = ""; var url = ""; var username = ""; var password = ""; var body = null; var success = null; var failure = null; for(e in args) { switch(e) { case "async": async = args[e]; break; case "type": type = args[e]; break; case "success": success = args[e]; break; case "failure": failure = args[e]; break; case "url": url = args[e]; break; case "username": username = args[e]; break; case "password": password = args[e]; break; case "body": body = args[e]; break; case "setHeader": var h = args[e].split(":"); if(h.length == 2) { this.SetRequestHeader(h[0], h[1]); } break; } } var that = this; this.XHR.onreadystatechange = function() { alert("readyState == " + that.XHR.readyState + " status == " + that.XHR.status); if(that.XHR.readyState == 4) { if(that.XHR.status == 200 that.XHR.status == 0) { if(success) success(that.XHR); } else { if(failure) failure(); } } }; this.XHR.open(type, url, async, username, password); this.XHR.send(body);} Example of usage:
