2023.06.06 19:09 vulturepants My cat gets her nails stuck in everything and freaks out, but also won’t let me clip them. Help?
Hi all, sorry in advance if this isn't the right place for this post, I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice. I've had my cat for over 2 years, she's about 4.5 years old. She can be very sweet but she's also a bit standoffish and bites/scratches sometimes. She was feral before she was rescued at about a year old so I've always chalked it up to that. My issue is, she gets her claws stuck on EVERYTHING, and then she gets extremely upset, yowling and hissing if I try to help her get unstuck. I don't know if she's in pain from her stuck nail or if she's just pissed. Usually I can kind of help her get unstuck without getting attacked but there have been other times where I've literally had to maneuver furniture or cut things to get her unstuck without touching her nail. The other problem of this is that she won't let me cut her nails. She does not let me touch her feet at all and will bite me hard if I try. I've tried the purrito method and she just wiggles out of it. I'm worried that if I really confine her it'll freak her out all over again and walk back all the progress she's made with me. I'm just worried about her being in pain from her claws getting stuck. She has several scratchers but she doesn't use them much. Any advice? Thanks so much in advance.

2023.06.06 19:08 HomemadeNanaimoBar Vancouver used to have a property tax that encouraged housing development and discouraged speculation
I first heard about
Land Value Tax (LVT) last year from
Noah Smith and I remember thinking, "it sounds like a smart idea but that would never happen here." So I was very surprised to learn that it
did happen here:
In 1910, Vancouver became the first large city to cease collecting any taxes on buildings and movable property. Municipal revenue was instead based exclusively on the value of land. ... By 1914, approximately two-thirds of cities in British Columbia, all of Alberta, and one-fourth in Saskatchewan taxed land alone. Most of the remainder of the region taxed land at a higher rate than improvements. #
Why the enthusiasm for LVT in the early 1900s? There were many reasons but the main one was that cities were competing for new residents:
Land value taxation spread like wildfire throughout Western Canada as a consensus emerged that it spurred development. In this rapidly developing region, where municipalities were competing for population and investment, the pressure to adopt a more efficient basis of taxation was irresistible. #
LVT didn't last long as the only tax. Enthusiasm for LVT waned after the world entered a recession and Vancouver's first property bubble burst. In 1918 Vancouver switched to a hybrid of LVT and something similar to today's property tax.
Over the next several decades, homeowners became an increasingly powerful voting bloc. Tax policy was incrementally changed to be more favourable for them. The changes would:
"reduce the relative tax load on vacant land and single-family dwelling groups but would increase the tax load on apartments, industrial and commercial groups” (VCC Minutes 1969). #
In 1984 LVT was fully eliminated.

2023.06.06 19:06 Rayneoffire96 Neighbor not respecting property boundaries.
This is in Michigan. I have 3 dogs and my neighbor keeps calling them to the fence and reaching over to pet them. He also allows his dog to dig under my fence trying to get to my dogs. The problem I'm having is one of my dogs is a rescue and he is not dog friendly and is very territorial. This dog is actually very sweet but has gone after both my neighbor and his dog, we stopped our dog before he actually attacked but I'm concerned that there will come an instance where we couldn't stop it. I have repeatedly told my neighbor to stop and that he's going to get both of our dogs killed but he refuses to stop. For context my dogs are all in my fenced in backyard and I feel like my dogs should be allowed in my yard without incidents, it only becomes an issue when this neighbor reaches over the fence or brings his dog to our fence. What can I do?

| In today's environmentally conscious world, waste management is a pressing issue for businesses across various industries. Streamlining waste management processes not only helps to reduce the environmental impact but also enhances operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. One solution that has gained significant traction in recent years is the implementation of universal waste systems. These systems provide a comprehensive approach to waste management, offering numerous benefits for businesses. What are universal waste systems? Universal waste systems are integrated waste management systems designed to handle multiple types of waste streams efficiently. Instead of managing different waste streams separately, businesses can consolidate and streamline their waste management processes by implementing universal waste systems. These systems typically cover common waste categories such as batteries, lamps, electronic devices, and certain hazardous materials. How can universal waste systems benefit my business? Universal waste systems offer several benefits for businesses, including: - Simplified Compliance: By consolidating waste streams, universal waste systems simplify compliance with regulations and reporting requirements. This reduces the administrative burden and ensures adherence to environmental guidelines.
- Enhanced Efficiency: Streamlining waste management processes leads to increased operational efficiency. Universal waste systems provide centralized collection, storage, and disposal mechanisms, reducing the time and effort required to handle different types of waste.
- Cost Savings: Universal waste systems can help businesses save money by optimizing waste management practices. By consolidating waste streams, businesses can negotiate better contracts with waste management vendors and minimize disposal costs.
- Environmental Responsibility: Implementing universal waste systems demonstrates your commitment to environmental sustainability. By managing waste streams more effectively, you contribute to reducing pollution and minimizing the impact on ecosystems.

Universal waste systems work by centralizing the collection and management of different waste streams. They involve the use of designated containers and storage facilities for specific waste categories. Trained personnel ensure proper segregation, handling, and transportation of waste to authorized disposal facilities. Universal waste systems may also include recycling and recovery processes to maximize resource utilization and minimize environmental impact. Conclusion In conclusion, universal waste systems offer significant benefits for businesses seeking to streamline their waste management processes. 2023.06.06 19:04 BronzeDucky First walk/run with my pup…
| After a long layoff from running, I started getting back into it last fall. Then got hit with COVID in November, and wasn’t going to try to pick it up in the middle of our great Canadian winters. But we got a Mexican street rescue at the end of December, and I’ve been threatening her that we’re going to start running again. She’s about 3 years old, and has more energy than we know what to do with. Finally, when we were out on our river valley walk yesterday, I happened to be wearing some old trainers, so even though I wasn’t really planning on it, it was a nice cooler day, and I figured now was as good a time as any! So we started a run/walk. She did excellent! We had to stop a few times for her pee breaks, but she was trotting along beside me just perfectly, and we didn’t get tangled up once! And her pee breaks made perfect excuses for me to take a walk break. :) Looking forward to continuing this, with more deliberation in the future! I think she’ll enjoy it, and there’s a pic of her after our run attached (as well as on from her supervising me work). :). Normally after a 5k walk, she still has the zoomies. So this was a good sign! submitted by BronzeDucky to RunningWithDogs [link] [comments] |
2023.06.06 19:04 DudeWheresMyCarFan AITA for disagreeing with my brother’s decision to adopt a pet snake?
Recently, my brother surprised our family by bringing home a pet snake without discussing it with anyone. While he argues that it’s his right to choose a pet he love, I am extremely uncomfortable with snakes and feel anxious in its presence. I expressed my concerns about the potential risks and my fear, but he insists that I should just get over it. Am I being unreasonable for wanting them to consider the family’s feelings before bringing such a divisive pet into our home?

2023.06.06 19:03 No-Champion-7009 Was this abuse?
Going to try and keep this as short as possible.
I grew up with what I'd class as a strict Christian upbringing. I was taken out of school in year 5, was not allowed to attend secondary school as I would be corrupted by non Christians basically. I was Christian homeschooled until age 16. I was allowed no freinds.
I attended college when I was 16 for a few weeks but got taken out because I lied about my journey home from a college trip and got found out (went to a freinds for an hour said the train was late)
My aunt was like the "god" in my family. My mum listened to everything my aunt said because God told her. I got blamed for various things because "god told her" it was me. Yet my aunts daughter (a year older) could do nothing wrong. I couldn't look at my aunt as she intimidated me, she said this is because she has God within her so I couldn't make eye contact with her. She would come to my room and tell my mum and cousin she sensed evil spirits.
I suffered with mental health issues from age 11, self harmed, had body issues. I was seen as bad for my cousin (aunts daughter to be around) self harm = no seeing cousin, she was the only person I saw around my age group.
I liked rock music, but that was bad because it was of the devil. I liked wearing black but I wasn't allowed. I wasn't allowed a TV and was shamed for watching Harry Potter. I was only permitted to listen to Christian music (couldn't even listen to Mcfly for instance) and no films with swearing in.
I once convinced my mum to have a freind round that I made at a little group, she came round and we went into the porch, but because my aunt lived down the road and might see me and my freind, my mum told us to duck down.
My aunt constantly as a teen had me sit on the floor infront of her, my cousins, her husband, my mum and tell me how awful i was to my mum (i did hate her, if she even hugged me on the rare occasion it made me feel sick). I was so embarrassed.
I could do nothing right. I didn't rebel, i just suffered bad depression. People asked me why I didn't just rebel against them, but I felt completely trapped. My aunts sons were out doing drugs, sleeping about, the usual teen stuff, but they were never a problem, it was always me. I always wondered if myself being adopted has been part of the issue too.
I feel as an adult now I suffer from many things because of my upbringing, one definitely being social anxiety and GAD. I'm tired of the past creeping up and effecting me in the present.
Was this abuse? (Sorry for long post)

2023.06.06 19:03 Healthinspiration How a 35 lbs Weight Loss Can Transform Your Life
| Weight loss success story Losing weight can be a life-changing journey. It not only improves your physical health but also boosts your confidence and overall well-being. The goal of shedding 35 lbs may seem daunting, but with the right strategies and mindset, it can be achieved. In this article, we will explore the concept of weight loss, the relationship between weight and calories, and provide practical tips to help you lose 35 lbs and experience a transformative change in your life. Understanding Weight Loss Before diving into the specifics of losing 35 lbs, let's first understand what weight loss entails. Weight loss refers to the reduction in body weight, typically as a result of burning more calories than you consume. It is influenced by various factors, including genetics, lifestyle choices, and underlying medical conditions. Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for overall well-being, as it reduces the risk of chronic diseases and promotes optimal physical and mental functioning. The Concept of Calories Calories play a crucial role in the weight loss journey. They are units of energy derived from the food and beverages we consume. Weight loss occurs when you create a calorie deficit, which means you burn more calories than you consume. The key components of the calorie equation are caloric intake and expenditure. Your caloric intake is determined by the foods and drinks you consume. It is important to make nutritious choices and avoid excessive consumption of high-calorie, low-nutrient foods. On the other hand, caloric expenditure refers to the energy your body burns through various activities, including exercise, daily activities, and bodily functions. The Relationship Between Weight and Calories To lose weight, you need to create a calorie deficit. A calorie deficit occurs when you consume fewer calories than your body needs for daily activities and maintenance. This deficit forces your body to tap into stored fat for energy, leading to weight loss. On average, a pound of body weight is estimated to be equivalent to approximately 3,500 calories. Therefore, to lose 35 lbs, you would need to create a calorie deficit of 122,500 calories over a period of time. It is important to note that weight loss should be approached gradually and sustainably for long-term success. The 35 lbs Weight Loss Milestone Setting a realistic weight loss goal is essential to stay motivated and track progress effectively. Losing 35 lbs is a significant milestone that can have a profound impact on your health and well-being. However, it is important to remember that weight loss is not a one-size-fits-all journey. The time required to lose 35 lbs may vary depending on factors such as metabolism, starting weight, and individual circumstances. On average, a healthy rate of weight loss is considered to be 1-2 pounds per week. Based on this estimate, losing 35 lbs could take approximately 17-35 weeks, or 4-8 months. It is crucial to approach weight loss with patience and focus on sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes. Strategies for Losing 35 lbs Losing 35 lbs may seem overwhelming, but with the right strategies, it is achievable. Here are some effective approaches to help you on your weight loss journey: MUST SEEN : The Lazy Way to a Slimmer You: How to Lose Weight Without Exercising Healthy Eating Habits Adopting healthy eating habits is essential for weight loss. Focus on incorporating a variety of nutrient-dense foods into your diet, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Aim for portion control and mindful eating, paying attention to hunger and fullness cues. Consider consulting a registered dietitian for personalized guidance and meal planning. Regular Physical Activity Engaging in regular physical activity is crucial for weight loss and overall well-being. Aim for a combination of cardiovascular exercises, such as brisk walking, running, or cycling, and strength training exercises to build lean muscle mass. Find activities that you enjoy to make exercise a sustainable part of your routine. Lifestyle Changes Weight loss is not just about diet and exercise; it often requires making broader lifestyle changes. Prioritize quality sleep, manage stress levels, and reduce sedentary behaviors. Small changes, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or incorporating short activity breaks throughout the day, can add up and contribute to your weight loss goals. Seeking Professional Guidance If you are struggling to achieve your weight loss goals or have underlying health conditions, consider seeking professional guidance. A healthcare provider, registered dietitian, or certified personal trainer can provide personalized recommendations and support tailored to your needs. Staying Motivated Throughout the Journey Maintaining motivation throughout your weight loss journey is crucial for long-term success. Here are some strategies to help you stay motivated: Setting Short-Term Goals Break your weight loss journey into smaller, achievable goals. Celebrate each milestone along the way, whether it's losing 5 pounds or fitting into a smaller clothing size. These short-term goals will keep you motivated and provide a sense of accomplishment. Celebrating Milestones Reward yourself for your achievements. Treat yourself to non-food rewards, such as a spa day, a new workout outfit, or a weekend getaway. Celebrating milestones reinforces positive behaviors and helps maintain motivation. Creating a Support System Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, or a weight loss support group. Share your goals and progress with them, seek their encouragement, and lean on them during challenging times. Having a support system can make your weight loss journey more enjoyable and sustainable. The Benefits of Losing 35 lbs Losing 35 lbs can have a multitude of benefits beyond just the number on the scale. Here are some advantages of achieving this weight loss milestone: Health Improvements Losing excess weight can improve various aspects of your health. It can reduce the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. Weight loss also improves blood pressure levels, cholesterol levels, and overall cardiovascular health. Additionally, it can alleviate symptoms associated with conditions like joint pain and sleep apnea. Increased Energy Levels Carrying excess weight can leave you feeling lethargic and fatigued. By shedding 35 lbs, you can experience a significant boost in energy levels. With increased energy, you'll find it easier to engage in physical activities, accomplish daily tasks, and enjoy a more active lifestyle. Enhanced Self-Confidence Weight loss can greatly improve self-confidence and body image. As you work towards your goal of losing 35 lbs, you'll notice positive changes in your appearance, fitness, and overall well-being. This transformation can boost your self-esteem and enhance your confidence in various aspects of life. Potential Challenges and How to Overcome Them Embarking on a weight loss journey is not without its challenges. Here are some common obstacles you may encounter and strategies to overcome them: Plateaus and Weight Fluctuations It is normal to experience weight plateaus or fluctuations during your journey. These periods can be frustrating and may lead to discouragement. However, it's essential to remember that weight loss is not always linear. Stay consistent with your healthy habits, reassess your eating and exercise routine, and consider consulting a professional for guidance. Dealing with Cravings Cravings for unhealthy foods can be a stumbling block in your weight loss journey. Find healthier alternatives to satisfy your cravings, such as opting for fruit instead of sugary snacks or enjoying a square of dark chocolate instead of a candy bar. Practice mindful eating and address the underlying causes of cravings, such as emotional triggers or boredom. Overcoming Self-Doubt At times, self-doubt and negative self-talk may creep in during your weight loss journey. Remember that setbacks are a natural part of the process, and it's essential to be kind to yourself. Focus on your progress, celebrate your achievements, and surround yourself with positive influences that uplift and motivate you. Conclusion Losing 35 lbs is a significant achievement that can have a transformative impact on your life. By adopting healthy eating habits, engaging in regular physical activity, and making sustainable lifestyle changes, you can embark on a successful weight loss journey. Stay motivated, set realistic goals, and seek support when needed. Remember, weight loss is a personal journey, and every step you take towards a healthier lifestyle is a step towards a happier and more fulfilling life. 2023.06.06 19:02 jybbing My Sweet Baby Darcy
Darcy passed suddenly yesterday after collapsing at home. We rushed to the hospital, and he passed while nurses/doc tried to do CPR on him. About a month and half ago he started going into heart failure. He fought really hard, but the decline was scary and quick. In the end, his suffering wasn’t long. I know he is in a better place now, but I thought we’d have more time. He was a 10.5 years old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Darcy was my family’s first pet/dog. We never did much research on the breed and their health, didn’t even get pet insurance. My parents got him for me because we had just moved here from another country and they thought I really could need a friend. When I was in high school and college, Darcy and I had a casual sibling relationship. He loved me but he didn’t like me that much. He was my mom’s lap dog. My mom loved him as her child but didn’t always know how to best care for him (as in, they traveled a lot and left Darcy with other families a lot). He was always healthy, never demanding. He was everyone’s favorite.
Pandemic hit and my parents got stuck in our home country. Darcy was with our family friends, who during the first half of the pandemic lost their first pet/dog—Darcy’s best friend. I graduated college during this time and started working. As soon as I got my first pet-friendly apartment, Darcy moved in with me and my partner. By then, he had been diagnosed with a low grade heart murmur, so we started seeing a cardiologist every six months, switched him to a chicken-free diet, and added butternut squash to his meals, which really solved his recurring dietary and anal glands problems. We also started brushing his teeth every night and bought him VOHC approved products. Previously he had 9 teeth removed, but never had dental problems again.
Darcy was so happy. He loved going to the parks, loved the urban wildlife, loved all the garbage on the streets (we didn’t love that so much). All of our neighbors loved him. He built a very special bond with my partner, who is absolutely heartbroken over his sudden loss. He slept in our bed, travelled with us to various cities, took the subway/bus/Amtrak with us, flew with us, rode on the moped with us, and loved every single moment of it.
I am most grateful for the two years I had as Darcy’s primary caretaker. I’m grateful he gave me an opportunity to step into my powers and gave him the best possible final years ever. He taught me how to become a real adult. For our next pet, there is so much I know I can do better, starting with perhaps adopting and researching.
When Darcy came to us, I was a shy freshman in high school desperate to fit in. Now I’m starting law school in two months. Darcy showed me the person I can rise up to be. I love him so much and I’m so grateful he let me care for him.

2023.06.06 18:57 momma_martin Adopted dog attacked our old dog and is hoarding everything.
We adopted a 3ish year old German Shepherd mix on Friday. We followed all the suggestions of the humane society: intro new dog to old dog in a neutral location, keep both on leash in house, give new dog her space, etc. We even did a meet and greet prior to adoption with our older dog and new dog seemed fine with him. Until Monday morning. Monday morning new dog was laying in an alcove off our hallway and old walked by, ignoring new dog. New dog growled, lunged, and next thing I know my old dog is being shook like a rag doll. Old dog is a Yorkie poo for reference and almost 7. He’s fine but now new dog growls at him every time she sees him and has started stealing everything that isn’t nailed down and carrying it to her bed. This morning she was trying to cart off my toddler’s play kitchen set. When she acts aggressive towards our old dog we immediately kennel her, but she sits in the kennel and as soon as he is in eyesight starts snarling. I’m at a loss here. I can’t risk her hurting my old dog or suddenly snapping at my toddler if she tries to take something that new dog doesn’t want her touching. Maybe I’m looking for validation that it’s ok to take her back. I’ve had many pets over the years and never encountered this. All my other dogs have lived to be old pooches as part of our family. And they came to us at a variety ages. Any suggestions on what to do?

2023.06.06 18:56 thechelator Thank you so much to this community 🐍
Last night I got my bp (Archie) to eat a frozen/thawed rat for the first time! I didn't even have to jiggle the rat around or anything, he just took it. This is amazing considering his previous owners told me he refused to eat F/T. When I saw him take the rat I got pretty emotional just because this is such a huge marker of how far we've come.
I rescued Archie two years ago knowing absolutely nothing about caring for snakes and this sub has been such a great resource. I was horrified when I realized how long he'd been living in terrible conditions with college students who didn't know any better. Thank you so so much to those who put in so much effort to create the free guide material, to those who give out advice in comments and posts. You've been a huge part in giving my bp the life he deserves.
I know sometimes this sub can be a bit ruthless in the critiques of others enclosures etc, but that criticism comes from a place of deep caring for the well-being of our noodly friends. I hope you all keep caring passionately for ball pythons (but maybe the criticism could be more constructive and less an attack on the people who seek advice).
Wish me luck as I set up his larger enclosure that I finally was able to buy! Thanks friends 💚

I know Coromon is in a pricy build your own bundle rn so could do multiple smaller games for it but no ridiculous offers please
https://www.fanatical.com/en/pick-and-mix/diamond-collection-build-your-own-bundle Only interested in Paypal offers and games in the title don't comment if you don't have either to offer. For AAA games I'm only taking Paypal offers, not trades Any comments with lists of random games I likely already own will be ignored and possibly blocked. My region is EU, if you are outside of EU you have to cover Paypal fees. I do not have a set price for anything, if you ask "how much for" you'll be asked if you have a price in mind.

2023.06.06 18:55 dancing_leaf_24 Are your westies friendly with other dogs?
Hi everyone, I have a 3.5 yo female westie (rescued from animal shelter at 2 yo). We are currently working with a trainer on her reactivity, but I was hoping that she could have a friend in the future (maybe after a few years of work). We are making some progress but it's very slow. She currently has 3 dogs that she sees regularly and can sit beside/play with (always supervised), but she will still sometimes bark and snarl (no biting) at them when she's uncomfortable. She is dog selective.
I was wondering for those of you who have westies with reactivity issues, did you ever get a second dog? How did you know that your dog would be ok with the second dog? Do you need to make sure that there are 100% no conflict in order to get a second dog? Finally, do you have any tips for being dog reactive?
She is ok with people.

2023.06.06 18:55 Olivia_Jolie Bunn Coffee Pot Replacement_Bunn Coffee Maker Parts
At Bunn, our commitment to providing the best beverage possible in every cup for each occasion remains unwavering. To satisfy the expanding needs of their customers, they are continually adopting cutting-edge new technologies while preserving the long lifespan, slick operation, and superior quality for which
Bunn coffee maker parts are renowned.
Commercial Bunn coffee maker models are designed to cater to the entire team's caffeine needs, while our at-home models provide a fuss-free cup of coffee. The Heat N' Brew, Speed Brew, and My Cafe are among the best Bunn coffee maker models for residential use. For commercial use, Bunn offers a variety of coffee maker models, such as the Fast Cup, Ultra NX, Water Filtration, Crescendo, Sure Immersion, BUNN Refresh, and more.
The fluted design of Bunn coffee filters offers many advantages, such as avoiding collapse, being environmentally friendly, and eliminating off-flavors, preventing off-tastes.
To adjust the water flow on a Bunn coffee maker, press "Start" or "Brew" to get started, then release the button after pressing and holding it for three clicks. This will result in less water being released, and only the quantity of this brewing will change as a result. If you face such issues at some time, you need to be aware of problems and solutions.
