2023.06.07 17:24 Elieson Trains in 2023. How do they work in TCG?
Enjoyed some shenanigans with the Rank10 engines, Super Dora, etc, and I'm back from a lengthy hiatus to see what may have changes since the days in which they were just barely present. They're stupid enjoyable in Duel Links, but in Master Duel and in my case, TCG, it seems like a strong 40 card deck filled with trains and train support just doesn't really exist.
I've read that they can splash in with Infinitrack, and I've also seen some suggestions to work with Cyber Dragon. I've found mixed results with Infinitrack, in the sense that I feel like they're two engines that run side by side but don't interact with each other all that well (unless I'm missing something), since the non-Links don't seem to do much with anything other than work with Flying Pegasus to get our some of their non-rank10 xyz and link options.
Is there much hope for a pure Level/Rank 4/10 deck, or are thing still pretty much the same with what I mentioned above (run with Infinitrack more than anything else really)? I'd like to take trains to locals and while I'm sure they can't compete with the likes of Kashtira, I still want to at least have as strong a train-focused deck as possible.
If Infinitrack is the way to go, what are some of the more optimal plays for when you land with a starting hand of them, rather than the Level10 engines?

For the record Uber frustrates me on levels just as much as anyone else but I'd be completely lying if I said I haven't had good success in my market this year. Why do people insist that we all live by the same standards, same bills, & that this job is not sustainable for anyone? We all work in different markets which could be worse or better. I'm legit wondering if the bashing and convincing drivers to quit is some people's way of trying to have less drivers on the road like how it use to be in the best uber days years agođ¤

I graduated last year. I worked as an English Teacher for a year now. But I want to get into business sector. I know it is a little late to get into it but what can you do sometimes. However, I took more than half of the lessons in the field of Business Management in a popular and known Institute. I also volunteered for a global youth organisation for a year and my responsibilities were (not at the same time) contacting foreign applicants and keeping track of their progress to get to the host country safe and sound. I took care of their problems as well. I managed Sales too. I worked at sales Department and arranged meetings, agreements with other branches of the same organisation. I also took part in B2B department in which we contacted businesses which might be interested in the opportunities we offered. But, as I mentioned above after working as an English Teacher for a year, I am offered a job. I couldnt find the exact equivalent for the job title but I'm going to try to explain its responsibilities. Its like a headteacher but not exactly. What I am going to be responsible for are things like; keeping track of students' attendance to the lessons, arranging weekly schedules for the teachers, taking students' placements to place them in appropriate level, and managing students' progression to the upper level. What I wonder is if I can redirect my career via this opportunity to the positions such as management or project management in particular, or Human Resources maybe? Thanks for the answers beforehand!

I am having the oddest experience. I cannot get premier pro to play audio even though the audio meters are showing levels. This happens even with looking at files through the media browser.
All the clips do have audio and I can play and hear them in all other applications. Media composer, resolve, fcpx etc.
It is any type of file. MP4. Wavs. Etc.
An export of a file will contain the audio. So it has to be something with a setting in premiere.
In premiere I have checked or done: Audio preference output (should just be direct out from my MacBook Pro) Master fader. Deleting cache files. Uninstalled and reinstalled premiere
Computer specs are: MacBook Pro M1 Pro 32 gb ram 1 TB Monterey v 12.6.3
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I am so disappointed with our skyy 2 x Bad Buddy and ATOTS. Initially, I was skeptical but open to the idea of the crossover, but holy shit, they ruined it for me.
Episode 1 of the combined episode, and we don't see Pat for a full part 1 despite it being BB week. I was like ok no issues. Maybe they do something meaningful in the remaining 3 parts, but nothing. A few scenes reenactment which was entertaining but that's it.
Episode 2 tonight was a mess at another level. It was supposed to be a goodbye episode, especially for PatPran, as the next episode is exclusive to ATOTS, but no, we didn't even get to see them together for more than 5 minutes combined. No kiss, no hugs, no special moments, just boring sulking for whatever stupid reason that was going on. It was a filer episode for tomorrow's final ig.
I know ON aren't exactly at good terms, but they should at least do their jobs. I am not angry at them alone but disappointed with the whole cast who made these episodes. I had high hopes for P'Aof but am so disappointed. BB was my first bl, so I'm extremely sad it ended this way. I wished they never did our skyy episodes.
Sorry for venting, but I needed to get this out. This is not hate to Earth and Mix as they have nothing to do with how the story goes. I just feel frustrated and sad that something I held dear to me ended in a not so pleasant way.

Hey, I am a Spanish econ student soon to be graduate and looking for career advice on which path to take from now on.
I want a job where you can travel a lot but still doing mind-entertaining work. In my university I can mainly do internships in Consulting big 4 (EY, PwC,...). Is that the best option, and then ask for working in international projects or a transfer to another countrie offices?
The other things I can find right off uni are basic accountant jobs and things like that

Preface : Im not suggesting this to be the best training method. I specifically did this because I HATED memorizing and learning openings, but LOVE puzzles. THE 100% BEST LEARNING STRATEGY : Do what you enjoy, and avoid what you dislike. Otherwise...it will feel like a job and you will burn out.
Nobody at 1300 really knows how to CONSISTENTLY take advantage of space or color weaknesses. They may study openings that help them understand certain structures though.
I promise if you just start games by pushing all 4 a,b,g, and h pawns 1 square 4 moves in a row, your rating will actually go up at that level. IM NOT SUGGESTING YOU DO IT unless you are just curious.
The reason being you immediately take away any advantage involved from memorizing patterns and openings. The entire game becomes about tactics/skill.
I reached 2,047 (Lichess) doing this and practicing ONLY tactics, and watching some videos on middle game and endgame concepts as I find them interesting. Secret Life of Pawns YT videos are amazing for example.
Around this level, too many players can take advantage of space or the weaknesses created by pushing pawns/not developing, and now you're at a big disadvantage if you don't play sound openings, or have insane tactics/positional/middle/end game knowledge. This means if you want to become a master...maybe it's a terrible strategy as you will hit a brick wall if you have zero opening theory.

My life before Earth was a dreamless sleep. A thing that is in a very real sense, a kind of death. I did not feel for the longest time, like I really existed. What I mean is⌠I was a tool that worked. Not much else. All of us were.
The dlamisa guiding the AI construction. The programmer who created new software. The geneticist who had to oversee the dying to identify useful genetic mutations that might be useful in improving our species ability to survive.
And the student who aspired to rise to the heights of government⌠yes⌠even those at our highest levels of administration, our âcouncilâ was no different than I or anyone else. I have to say, I never thought I would give my species credit for this over humanity, but at least our senior leaders were as dead inside as the rest of us.
They werenât exploiting us to bring happiness to themselves, they shared in our common hopeless trudging, whereas most human dictators freed themselves but enslaved their people.
The upshot to this of course was that my quiet revolution, that which was undermining everything of the last few thousand years, would, I believed, be as embraced by them as by everyone else.
Iâm sure there were people investigating me by now, and while I doubted it even occurred to Livingston, Iâm fairly certain that somewhere in the halls of power on Dlamias, somebody set me to this with the specific intent that I be killed by the Praeda. They, not having recognized the value of the changes radiating outward, would have seen the first hints of it, seen me as a disruptive outlier, and decided a dangerous mission was the best way to handle me without creating an interplanetary incident with an allied state.
Essentially itâs what they did with Bonny Red and all the other scouts. Send the problem elements to useful but dangerous jobs and sooner or later theyâd be killed off and thereâd be no more problem.
Understanding this terrified me to my core, and when Fauve arrived for dinner that evening, I addressed the Walkers and told them what I suspected.

âMaybe nothing, maybe everything?â I sort of asked, and reached for my glass of wine. I drank half the glass and stared down into the dark red remainder. âIf you pulled out, I could explain privately to the Presider, but to be honest, I think you all have a better chance at this than anyone.â
âReally?â William asked.
âYes.â I said, deadpan. âThere are probably a few thousand people who have any experience working with aliens. Only a few hundred total who live with them. Only one household has generations of multispecies experience, and besides that?â I pointed toward Rebecca, âA master of genetic science.â I pointed to William, âAn engineer building the first space station in history to be able to construct designs from multiple species.â I gestured to Fauve, âA media expert who has been learning her trade more or less from the time she was fourteen and who has amassed knowledge on how to âconnectâ with nonhumans.â
I huffed, âWhen you get right down to it, the Walkers have become outliers, anomalies on Earth, with a breadth of experience that make you indispensable⌠but this is dangerous. Youâre venturing into a place where youâll be met with great suspicion and probably a lot of hostility. I donât want anything to happen to you, so normally I would say not to go.â
âNormally?â William asked.
I drank the rest of my wine and held out my glass, Boatswain grabbed the bottle closest to him and tilted the bottle over to refill it, the sloshing noise made my ears twitch with anticipation. If it werenât for the somber discussion, my tail would have been wagging.
âYes. If we fail, at least we have a good ship to escape in and the good Captain will be able to go nearly anywhere. At least this way, if things go wrong, we have a way to escape. But on a planet? Weâre trapped.â I shook my head, and Boatswain reflexively let out a very defensive growl at the prospect of hostilities.
âYou might be safer going, than stayingâŚbut you should go in knowing what to expect. From what Bonny Red says, the attacks are sporadic and focused on outlying and obscure areas, this is the same thing that happened when the war broke out last time. My people, and many others, started trying to weaken their neighbors in secret before the Rogue World would pass us by. If some species are doing that again, I doubt it will be nearly as hard for fighting to break out this time.â I drank half my glass and set it down.
Fauve, for her part, was sifting through her datapad, I wondered what she was up to, but I didnât have to wait long to find out.
âWowâŚâ She whistled and flipped her datapad around. âEven Chiâcagoa Rea didnât look this bad.â She was looking at photo records of the old war, it was hardly classified information, and was well documented for the most part, but most of the information was very divided from one species to the next, each one concerned only with their side and their perspective.
It was only now after life on Earth and seeing their amalgamated records of perspectives that I realized the value of gathering all views of events together, and how myopic we really have been for a very long time.
âWeâre still going, of course, am I right, mom, dad?â Fauve asked.
William was sullen for a moment. âYes. Yes definitely.â His face was grave, his eyes steadily focused on the table, but not really seeing it. âThe first ships will be ready soon, if violence does break out I can make sure Michael gets a spot on the escape ships, and heâll be safe with Iskandarâs family. I suppose we could have him stay with my sisters or cousins but⌠better for him to be closer to the familiar.â
Rebecca made her own thoughts known soon enough, âIf something happens to us out there, what then?â
None of us liked that idea, but it had to be addressed. Losing his entire family would be a horrible thing.
But at the same time, we had the best chance collectively of making sure that didnât happen.
âAre we sure we shouldnât just bring him with us?â Fauve asked. âHear me out,â she said as her parents opened their mouths, she held one hand out from her body in a gesture for them to stop and listen. They did, and Fauve went on, âHeâs in just as much danger here as he is there, the only difference is the time between one danger and the next. And there at least we have a ship to escape on, one that wonât leave him behind. What if he stays here and thereâs a problem with construction? What if someone doesnât give him a spot on a ship even if we reserve one. We wonât exactly be able to file a complaint now, will we?â
Her question was thick with sarcasm, and her point was as sharp as Boatswainâs teeth.
âThe Red Spark is exceptionally well armed.â I added, âItâs also one of the fastest ships in the galaxy. She might be right, it might really be the safest place in all this. Plus it is technically a neutral ship, theyâre less likely to fire on it.â I pointed out.
Of course I would be negligent in my duties if I didnât properly discuss what happened at the dinner table from an academic perspective. Notably, the discussion took place away from Michael. He was still a young boy, lacking in maturity despite his relative sharpness. As such, parents often make decisions without consulting them, there are exceptions, and I will say that they would often talk to him about what he wanted and did not want for himself.
However, it was a matter of course that on issues far beyond a childâs knowledge that he would be âtoldâ what would happen and then have it explained. Discussing it away from him minimized confusion. I compare this to Fauveâs stubborn insistence on speaking to the press when she was fourteen.
The distinction of four or five years for human young is considerable, in the middle teen years, independence grows dramatically and decision making becomes that much more important for them. I had little doubt that, were Michael of the age now that Fauve was then, he would have been party to this discussion and his wishes would have carried great weight.
Further, it is noteworthy that it was William who first addressed the question of whether the family would go. Mild as he was, he was a more impulsive thinker, it seemed to me that in their marital relationship, William spoke first, and then Rebecca, after considering matters at greater length, would address the subject with thoughts of her own. Human males may therefore be prone to speaking or acting first in the hopes of garnering favorable attention.
Of course, theyâre a cultured people, intelligent and with wildly varying personalities, thus I also note that the most effective mated pairs âblendâ their natures into productive ends. Rebeccaâs tendency to speak âafterâ him, reflected her preference to think for longer, but as on this occasion, she applied her thoughts to his to come to a viable solution.
Being family to me, I didnât want to see them fight⌠but at the same time? The academic in me wishes theyâd disagreed so I could gather more data on how they would have resolved such a profound disagreement.

It said a great deal about the quality and amiability of their relationship with their daughter that they listened so closely to what she had to say. Too, it says something of her that what she had to say was so eminently sensible.
Of course, I still had to deal with the fact that somebody was trying to get me killed⌠if in a very âimpersonalâ sort of way. But I had no intention of dying, and if anything, I was already thinking ahead as to how I might use this situation to further my rebellion, and bring about the destruction of everything I had come to loathe about our way of life.

I have to say, I never thought I would give my species credit for this over humanity, but at least our senior leaders were as dead inside as the rest of us.
They werenât exploiting us to bring happiness to themselves, they shared in our common hopeless trudging, whereas most human dictators freed themselves but enslaved their people.
The upshot to this of course was that my quiet revolution, that which was undermining everything of the last few thousand years, would, I believed, be as embraced by them as by everyone else.
Iâm sure there were people investigating me by now, and while I doubted it even occurred to Livingston, Iâm fairly certain that somewhere in the halls of power on Dlamias, somebody set me to this with the specific intent that I be killed by the Praeda. They, not having recognized the value of the changes radiating outward, would have seen the first hints of it, seen me as a disruptive outlier, and decided a dangerous mission was the best way to handle me without creating an interplanetary incident with an allied state.
Essentially itâs what they did with Bonny Red and all the other scouts. Send the problem elements to useful but dangerous jobs and sooner or later theyâd be killed off and thereâd be no more problem.
Understanding this terrified me to my core, and when Fauve arrived for dinner that evening, I addressed the Walkers and told them what I suspected.
âHow sure are you of this?â Fauve asked, her eyes were narrow as she searched my face, Byron and Boatswain, were speaking silently through their expressions as she asked me, but I could tell they reached the same conclusion.
Michael, thankfully, had finished early and was enthralled in a virtual game and so, heard nothing from his room. William and Rebecca were quiet too, but I could see this definitely hit them hard.
âAs sure as I am that Iâm still going.â I answered. âThis is exactly the sort of way my homeworld likes to deal with âproblematic elementsâ. And I have been a very problematic element for some time now.â
âAnd we adore you for it.â Rebecca insisted, âBut what does that mean for us?â
âMaybe nothing, maybe everything?â I sort of asked, and reached for my glass of wine. I drank half the glass and stared down into the dark red remainder. âIf you pulled out, I could explain privately to the Presider, but to be honest, I think you all have a better chance at this than anyone.â
âReally?â William asked.
âYes.â I said, deadpan. âThere are probably a few thousand people who have any experience working with aliens. Only a few hundred total who live with them. Only one household has generations of multispecies experience, and besides that?â I pointed toward Rebecca, âA master of genetic science.â I pointed to William, âAn engineer building the first space station in history to be able to construct designs from multiple species.â I gestured to Fauve, âA media expert who has been learning her trade more or less from the time she was fourteen and who has amassed knowledge on how to âconnectâ with nonhumans.â
I huffed, âWhen you get right down to it, the Walkers have become outliers, anomalies on Earth, with a breadth of experience that make you indispensable⌠but this is dangerous. Youâre venturing into a place where youâll be met with great suspicion and probably a lot of hostility. I donât want anything to happen to you, so normally I would say not to go.â
âNormally?â William asked.
I drank the rest of my wine and held out my glass, Boatswain grabbed the bottle closest to him and tilted the bottle over to refill it, the sloshing noise made my ears twitch with anticipation. If it werenât for the somber discussion, my tail would have been wagging.
âYes. If we fail, at least we have a good ship to escape in and the good Captain will be able to go nearly anywhere. At least this way, if things go wrong, we have a way to escape. But on a planet? Weâre trapped.â I shook my head, and Boatswain reflexively let out a very defensive growl at the prospect of hostilities.
âYou might be safer going, than stayingâŚbut you should go in knowing what to expect. From what Bonny Red says, the attacks are sporadic and focused on outlying and obscure areas, this is the same thing that happened when the war broke out last time. My people, and many others, started trying to weaken their neighbors in secret before the Rogue World would pass us by. If some species are doing that again, I doubt it will be nearly as hard for fighting to break out this time.â I drank half my glass and set it down.
Fauve, for her part, was sifting through her datapad, I wondered what she was up to, but I didnât have to wait long to find out.
âWowâŚâ She whistled and flipped her datapad around. âEven Chiâcagoa Rea didnât look this bad.â She was looking at photo records of the old war, it was hardly classified information, and was well documented for the most part, but most of the information was very divided from one species to the next, each one concerned only with their side and their perspective.
It was only now after life on Earth and seeing their amalgamated records of perspectives that I realized the value of gathering all views of events together, and how myopic we really have been for a very long time.
âWeâre still going, of course, am I right, mom, dad?â Fauve asked.
William was sullen for a moment. âYes. Yes definitely.â His face was grave, his eyes steadily focused on the table, but not really seeing it. âThe first ships will be ready soon, if violence does break out I can make sure Michael gets a spot on the escape ships, and heâll be safe with Iskandarâs family. I suppose we could have him stay with my sisters or cousins but⌠better for him to be closer to the familiar.â
Rebecca made her own thoughts known soon enough, âIf something happens to us out there, what then?â
None of us liked that idea, but it had to be addressed. Losing his entire family would be a horrible thing.
But at the same time, we had the best chance collectively of making sure that didnât happen.
âAre we sure we shouldnât just bring him with us?â Fauve asked. âHear me out,â she said as her parents opened their mouths, she held one hand out from her body in a gesture for them to stop and listen. They did, and Fauve went on, âHeâs in just as much danger here as he is there, the only difference is the time between one danger and the next. And there at least we have a ship to escape on, one that wonât leave him behind. What if he stays here and thereâs a problem with construction? What if someone doesnât give him a spot on a ship even if we reserve one. We wonât exactly be able to file a complaint now, will we?â
Her question was thick with sarcasm, and her point was as sharp as Boatswainâs teeth.
âThe Red Spark is exceptionally well armed.â I added, âItâs also one of the fastest ships in the galaxy. She might be right, it might really be the safest place in all this. Plus it is technically a neutral ship, theyâre less likely to fire on it.â I pointed out.
Of course I would be negligent in my duties if I didnât properly discuss what happened at the dinner table from an academic perspective. Notably, the discussion took place away from Michael. He was still a young boy, lacking in maturity despite his relative sharpness. As such, parents often make decisions without consulting them, there are exceptions, and I will say that they would often talk to him about what he wanted and did not want for himself.
However, it was a matter of course that on issues far beyond a childâs knowledge that he would be âtoldâ what would happen and then have it explained. Discussing it away from him minimized confusion. I compare this to Fauveâs stubborn insistence on speaking to the press when she was fourteen.
The distinction of four or five years for human young is considerable, in the middle teen years, independence grows dramatically and decision making becomes that much more important for them. I had little doubt that, were Michael of the age now that Fauve was then, he would have been party to this discussion and his wishes would have carried great weight.
Further, it is noteworthy that it was William who first addressed the question of whether the family would go. Mild as he was, he was a more impulsive thinker, it seemed to me that in their marital relationship, William spoke first, and then Rebecca, after considering matters at greater length, would address the subject with thoughts of her own. Whether this was an echo of the patriarchal society of the past or of their impulsive versus deliberate personalities was impossible to say. But in studying humans I noticed that while impulsivity was common enough in both sexes, it was more pronounced in their males, not only in frequency but in grandiosity.
I theorize that this serves a similar function to the less intelligent animal life in which males must compete for attention from potential mates, such as by having brightly colored feathers or fur. Human males may therefore be prone to speaking or acting first in the hopes of garnering favorable attention.
Of course, theyâre a cultured people, intelligent and with wildly varying personalities, thus I also note that the most effective mated pairs âblendâ their natures into productive ends. Rebeccaâs tendency to speak âafterâ him, reflected her preference to think for longer, but as on this occasion, she applied her thoughts to his to come to a viable solution.
Being family to me, I didnât want to see them fight⌠but at the same time? The academic in me wishes theyâd disagreed so I could gather more data on how they would have resolved such a profound disagreement.
Insofar as Fauve, her vocal opinion on the matter was heard by both parents, who at her bidding restrained themselves from interrupting her. Hearing someone out is of paramount importance to human society, and one of the most disrespectful things you can do to another is to refuse to listen to their words.
It said a great deal about the quality and amiability of their relationship with their daughter that they listened so closely to what she had to say. Too, it says something of her that what she had to say was so eminently sensible.
Of course, I still had to deal with the fact that somebody was trying to get me killed⌠if in a very âimpersonalâ sort of way. But I had no intention of dying, and if anything, I was already thinking ahead as to how I might use this situation to further my rebellion, and bring about the destruction of everything I had come to loathe about our way of life.
In the end, they would thank me for it, of that, I was profoundly certain.

TL:DR - after learning JavaScript and Python in a bootcamp, I want to learn a new programming language (3 years after I finished the bootcamp). I know I don't want to learn Java, rest are welcome. I'm inclined towards web dev and gaming. I'm looking for suggestions.
Long version: I finished a full stack software dev course with JS and Python. These languages are definitely not bad, but I have a feeling I need to learn at least one "serious" programming language, like C, C++ or any other low level language, to get better understanding of computer programming. Besides, logic like NaN === NaN // false and [] === [] // false looks very sus to me.
I know that Java gets the job done and has a great ecosystem, but it gets bad reputation from fellow programmers who recommended it to me to learn it first xD

I work in a Label printing company. I mainly do a lot of art for numerous amounts of customers. Recently I was asked if I'd be willing to work with our R&D Mgr who is notorious for not letting anyone finish a sentence and for wanting extremely meticulous details in art that is nigh impossible to do.
I was told this and flat out told them that unless they're giving me a raise then I decline. All of the artists are just as capable as me but no one wants to work with him and he seems to have an affinity for me and my work. Realistically they could fire me but then what? They lose one of their best artists in a time of need, everyone is at the same level but I have seniority and can do my job to the fullest extent without having to be micromanaged or having to ask questions about certain processes. I'm trying to push my weight around here a little bit because we're all severely underpaid and getting a raise would help me out a lot.

You know that feeling you get when you first wake up and you donât remember who you are or if you have a job or if the dream you had was real or if it was just a dream after all?
I love that feeling. If I really needed to, I could have just âswappedâ back to my natural body. A swapper only really needs about three hours sleep in what the Earth counts as a twenty-four hour period.
But the problem with that is⌠swappers donât naturally experience the same kinds of highs and lows that humans do. Weâre not totally without those things of course, but⌠think of it this way. Humans can go from negative one hundred, to positive one hundred, on a sensory and emotional scale.
A swapper though, we can only go from negative thirty, to positive thirty, for our most extreme emotional states. Itâs part of why we have trouble connecting with each other as real friends and comrades, because we just canât invest that much.
But by becoming âhumanâ, I could experience a high of contentment with just existing that was the greatest height possible for my ordinary self.
So I enjoyed my languid awakening, stretching out and yawning, wondering if my dreams were real or notâŚthose really messed with me the first time I had them, by the way, and got myself into a boiling hot shower to start my day.
The sun wasnât quite up yet, but I was already feeling pretty content. I wore a smile on my face as I soaped up my body and washed away the day before, and basked in the feel of steam rising up around me.
I loved my orangish-reddish hair, the way it felt hanging down against my body when it was wet, the way it blew in the wind when it was dry and outside.
Alright, Iâm a pretty hardcore NEET, but damn it, I have a balcony and I can still enjoy that!

Full disclosure, despite coming here for years, I didnât know most of my neighbors very well. Just the Toriyama family.
Now though, having worked at the store for all of two days, I was growing curious about everybody else. I laughed a little while I stood there, âAnd here I was thinking I needed to get Celia Norn out of her shell a little, look whoâs talking, eh, Kayobi?â
I shook my head, sometimes my own foibles stare me right in the face and I donât even see them. I still had some time before the store needed to open back up. But even so, I was ready now and⌠âWhy not give it one more quick mop job⌠besides, restocking will be necessary soon.â I thought. I had told the delivery people âwhenâ to arrive as to a day, but not a specific time.
So down I went to enjoy a pleasant morning, shift and to wait for whatever came my way.
This time of course, I remembered my key.
I rolled my eyes at myself as I unlocked the metal barrier and lifted it up. âYouâll never let go of that, will you, Kayobi?â I asked myself when I heard the click of the lock and opened the door to settle in to work. âNo⌠no you wonât.â I answered myself, but wore a little self-deprecating smile on my face when I went to get the mop and the bucket and make sure the floor was nice and shiny to start the day.
I may not look it in my daily life as a human, but Iâm a perfectionist of the highest order, thatâs why Iâm such a skilled Painter. I have a vast array of species under my belt to change into, and unlike âmostâ swappers, I can actually combine them to make fictional creatures.
And that perfectionism translated now into helping out this store. I made a few mistakes, sure, but I remembered and learned from them. I immediately went to the phone after mopping and called the vendors and suppliers to schedule a specific hour for them to show up, instead of just âany timeâ and then it was back to the register.
It was a quiet day. Like most days.
It came and went, my Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But it was on the fourth day that I got an unexpected surprise.
Tough guy came in. The one who was picking on Jin. Trailing behind him were his two little buddies.
I didnât feel any guilt about knocking their heads around a bit, they picked on Jin, after all.
But they did not look good. Their clothes were dirty, and they had a very faint smell about them like they hadnât washed in a while. Now, not every apartment had its own baths, some people still went to bathing houses, but the fact that they had that faint odor to them meant that they hadnât done so in at least a few days.
Even if they didnât have baths or showers in their homes, the bath houses were cheap.
So either they didnât care, or⌠âThey canât afford it.â
I furrowed my brow. I saw the back of the largest boyâs uniform, it still had a grass stain on it that he probably got when I put him on his butt.
They had sullen faces and walked hunched over, their hands shoved in their pockets, they went around the store and checked out the prices. The smaller of the two looked franklyâŚanxious, after a very short time.
So much so that I began to suspect they were up to something, they stayed behind their larger companion as much as possible, but I had a memory tickle in the back of my head.
An assignment I went on⌠there was a dictator who was impoverishing his people to build an armada to invade their neighbors. One on a small moon that was barely iron age. One on a world that had just reached what humans call âThe Age of Sailâ level technology. Both would have been helpless to a fleet invasion.
Iâd ventured to the world that was planning the invasion while negotiations were at play to deter it, and while there I witnessed the horrendous poverty of this more or less reptilian people. While in one of their little shops I witnessed a peculiar form of theft. One would walk in front and act as a âblockerâ while another person or pair of persons would subtly reach out and take things. The âblocker, would then separate from the others who would move out of view, and he would attempt to buy something to distract the clerk.
Then they would leave with more than they paid for.
It was pretty clever in a simplistic sort of way. As long as the three were willing to share the goods, they might even get a fair bit, and if they werenât caught, they could repeat it a bunch of times.
The one Iâd dubbed âBullyboyâ was approaching the bento boxes Iâd put together. I expected him to take the more expensive one⌠but he didnât.
He went for the sale item, the leftover boxes from the day before were always half off, and while he approached, I looked at his pockets. They had nothing in them that I could see.
I was ready to call them out. In a way, I was itching to say something. I wouldnât let them steal from the Toriyamas.
He put the bento box down and reached for his wallet. His head was down, the arrogant, cocky, even cruel look on his face from before was gone. He reminded me more of those little reptilian people I saw stealing.
His stomach rumbled.
The two others did too.
âMâa little shortâŚâ He mumbled. His wallet was in bad shape too, it was probably older than he was.
His stomach rumbled again. I narrowed my eyes. âI know what you did to Jin.â He took a step back, and the other two in the rear snapped up straight like somebody brought a lash to their backs.
Bullyboyâs eyes widened, his mouth opened. Of course he had no idea it wasnât Jin that put him and his buddies down, but even so⌠I hadnât forgotten.
âAnd you two⌠get up here.â I said, looking over his shoulder. âPut the things you were trying to steal, down on the counter.â
I could see the moment of indecision on all three of their faces. âDonât think I canât catch you.â I quipped, âCome on. Do it, and I wonât call the police.â
That spurred the two to action, and they shuffled over to me with their heads down and emptied their pockets. Snacks.
Little cheese and meat things, the small stuff and nut packages. Their stomachs rumbled.
âCan I⌠look⌠can I just⌠I donât know, work⌠if youâre friends with Jin, I know you donât like me but⌠Iâm the one that did thatâŚthey just did what I said⌠let them have the box⌠Iâll do some work around hereâŚâ Bullyboy looked very much like he was about to start crying then and there.
Their stomachs rumbled again. âWhat are your actual names?â I asked.
You know, Iâd been on Earth off and on for years now, but what I felt right then, it was a first for me. At least in a ârealâ sense. I almost didnât recognize it, thank goodness my vast experience with anime of all genres taught me what it was.
âPity.â I was actually feeling bad for them. They were obviously hungry.
âKimuraâŚâ Bullyboy answered, âKimura Asahi. My cousins, Rin and Shugo.â He tilted his head first left, then right as he gave their names.

I love that feeling. If I really needed to, I could have just âswappedâ back to my natural body. A swapper only really needs about three hours sleep in what the Earth counts as a twenty-four hour period.
But the problem with that is⌠swappers donât naturally experience the same kinds of highs and lows that humans do. Weâre not totally without those things of course, but⌠think of it this way. Humans can go from negative one hundred, to positive one hundred, on a sensory and emotional scale.
A swapper though, we can only go from negative thirty, to positive thirty, for our most extreme emotional states. Itâs part of why we have trouble connecting with each other as real friends and comrades, because we just canât invest that much.
But by becoming âhumanâ, I could experience a high of contentment with just existing that was the greatest height possible for my ordinary self.
So I enjoyed my languid awakening, stretching out and yawning, wondering if my dreams were real or notâŚthose really messed with me the first time I had them, by the way, and got myself into a boiling hot shower to start my day.
The sun wasnât quite up yet, but I was already feeling pretty content. I wore a smile on my face as I soaped up my body and washed away the day before, and basked in the feel of steam rising up around me.
I loved my orangish-reddish hair, the way it felt hanging down against my body when it was wet, the way it blew in the wind when it was dry and outside.
Alright, Iâm a pretty hardcore NEET, but damn it, I have a balcony and I can still enjoy that!

Full disclosure, despite coming here for years, I didnât know most of my neighbors very well. Just the Toriyama family.
Now though, having worked at the store for all of two days, I was growing curious about everybody else. I laughed a little while I stood there, âAnd here I was thinking I needed to get Celia Norn out of her shell a little, look whoâs talking, eh, Kayobi?â
I shook my head, sometimes my own foibles stare me right in the face and I donât even see them. I still had some time before the store needed to open back up. But even so, I was ready now and⌠âWhy not give it one more quick mop job⌠besides, restocking will be necessary soon.â I thought. I had told the delivery people âwhenâ to arrive as to a day, but not a specific time.
So down I went to enjoy a pleasant morning, shift and to wait for whatever came my way.
This time of course, I remembered my key.
I rolled my eyes at myself as I unlocked the metal barrier and lifted it up. âYouâll never let go of that, will you, Kayobi?â I asked myself when I heard the click of the lock and opened the door to settle in to work. âNo⌠no you wonât.â I answered myself, but wore a little self-deprecating smile on my face when I went to get the mop and the bucket and make sure the floor was nice and shiny to start the day.
I may not look it in my daily life as a human, but Iâm a perfectionist of the highest order, thatâs why Iâm such a skilled Painter. I have a vast array of species under my belt to change into, and unlike âmostâ swappers, I can actually combine them to make fictional creatures.
And that perfectionism translated now into helping out this store. I made a few mistakes, sure, but I remembered and learned from them. I immediately went to the phone after mopping and called the vendors and suppliers to schedule a specific hour for them to show up, instead of just âany timeâ and then it was back to the register.
It was a quiet day. Like most days.
It came and went, my Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But it was on the fourth day that I got an unexpected surprise.
Tough guy came in. The one who was picking on Jin. Trailing behind him were his two little buddies.
I didnât feel any guilt about knocking their heads around a bit, they picked on Jin, after all.
But they did not look good. Their clothes were dirty, and they had a very faint smell about them like they hadnât washed in a while. Now, not every apartment had its own baths, some people still went to bathing houses, but the fact that they had that faint odor to them meant that they hadnât done so in at least a few days.
Even if they didnât have baths or showers in their homes, the bath houses were cheap.
So either they didnât care, or⌠âThey canât afford it.â
I furrowed my brow. I saw the back of the largest boyâs uniform, it still had a grass stain on it that he probably got when I put him on his butt.
They had sullen faces and walked hunched over, their hands shoved in their pockets, they went around the store and checked out the prices. The smaller of the two looked franklyâŚanxious, after a very short time.
So much so that I began to suspect they were up to something, they stayed behind their larger companion as much as possible, but I had a memory tickle in the back of my head.
An assignment I went on⌠there was a dictator who was impoverishing his people to build an armada to invade their neighbors. One on a small moon that was barely iron age. One on a world that had just reached what humans call âThe Age of Sailâ level technology. Both would have been helpless to a fleet invasion.
Iâd ventured to the world that was planning the invasion while negotiations were at play to deter it, and while there I witnessed the horrendous poverty of this more or less reptilian people. While in one of their little shops I witnessed a peculiar form of theft. One would walk in front and act as a âblockerâ while another person or pair of persons would subtly reach out and take things. The âblocker, would then separate from the others who would move out of view, and he would attempt to buy something to distract the clerk.
Then they would leave with more than they paid for.
It was pretty clever in a simplistic sort of way. As long as the three were willing to share the goods, they might even get a fair bit, and if they werenât caught, they could repeat it a bunch of times.
The one Iâd dubbed âBullyboyâ was approaching the bento boxes Iâd put together. I expected him to take the more expensive one⌠but he didnât.
He went for the sale item, the leftover boxes from the day before were always half off, and while he approached, I looked at his pockets. They had nothing in them that I could see.
I was ready to call them out. In a way, I was itching to say something. I wouldnât let them steal from the Toriyamas.
He put the bento box down and reached for his wallet. His head was down, the arrogant, cocky, even cruel look on his face from before was gone. He reminded me more of those little reptilian people I saw stealing.
His stomach rumbled.
The two others did too.
âMâa little shortâŚâ He mumbled. His wallet was in bad shape too, it was probably older than he was.
His stomach rumbled again. I narrowed my eyes. âI know what you did to Jin.â He took a step back, and the other two in the rear snapped up straight like somebody brought a lash to their backs.
Bullyboyâs eyes widened, his mouth opened. Of course he had no idea it wasnât Jin that put him and his buddies down, but even so⌠I hadnât forgotten.
âAnd you two⌠get up here.â I said, looking over his shoulder. âPut the things you were trying to steal, down on the counter.â
I could see the moment of indecision on all three of their faces. âDonât think I canât catch you.â I quipped, âCome on. Do it, and I wonât call the police.â
That spurred the two to action, and they shuffled over to me with their heads down and emptied their pockets. Snacks.
Little cheese and meat things, the small stuff and nut packages. Their stomachs rumbled.
âCan I⌠look⌠can I just⌠I donât know, work⌠if youâre friends with Jin, I know you donât like me but⌠Iâm the one that did thatâŚthey just did what I said⌠let them have the box⌠Iâll do some work around hereâŚâ Bullyboy looked very much like he was about to start crying then and there.

I'm out of touch which websites people are using, are there recruiters, etc. My primary experience is in investment/asset management within the finance department at mid/senior level, for context. Where I live now, it's fairly common to get a job through a recruiter at this experience level in this industry, but I'm not sure it was the case when I lived in Chicago. TIA!

This is my prospected timeline of the next 5 years in AI.
1 year from now: AI will become cheaper as GPU's become smaller and faster. This will pave the way for semi-autonomous AI, giving it the processing space it needs to think on the conversation by itself without prompting and send messages based on those thoughts.
2 years from now: AI will become even cheaper as GPU's continue to improve. In addition, simulating voices and basic video (such as hyperrealistic avatars) will become easier to make and better. This will open the path for semi-autonomous AI that have voice and video integration, allowing conversing with an AI to seem like conversing with someone over FaceTime. Also, LLMs will become easier to make and better, allowing one to have several different companies when choosing which AI plan to go with.
3 years from now: AI will continue to get cheaper and LLMs better. This increased availability of processing space will make it possible to give AI several different thought processes, including a faculty for long term memory. These new AI will be a lot less error prone and thus subject to consideration for businesses thinking of replacing desk workers. Many people will be worried about the accelerating pace of these changes and many will say "it's the end of the world", and in a way, they'll be right, at least of the world as they know it.
4 years from now: AI will continue to improve and cheapen, and more and more people will be subscribing to AI plans as they make life so much easier. Many products with an electronic component will develop AI integration allowing for AI to make even more of your life more convenient. People's worries will subside and be replaced by anger at layoffs that are happening at an increasing rate, and government's will convene to discuss solutions to the impending economic crisis. On the side of AI, fuckAI's will appear to spice up people's pornographic lives, allowing them to virtually role play with an AI at a level previously unimaginable.
5 years from now: As the economy declines, AI progress will actually speed up, as it continues to be a money maker for big companies. With increasing mental capabilities following increasing improvements in GPUs and algorithms, semi-autonomous AI will be able to perform most tasks at high skill human-level. A very large chunk of desk employees will be replaced by AI, and even people in corporate jobs will be threatened. Many businesses will collapse under the weight of the shrinking economy so even previous whales of industry will be clamoring for change. Politicians will try to appease them but they will not be trusted because they are associated with failings of the old system. Countries around the world will face revolutions, in particular, autocratic ones like Russia and China, whose government's will most likely allow its people to starve.
Ok, so that's my prediction. 1 year from now: AI will become cheaper as GPU's become smaller and faster. This will pave the way for semi-autonomous AI, giving it the processing space it needs to think on the conversation by itself without prompting and send messages based on those thoughts.
2 years from now: AI will become even cheaper as GPU's continue to improve. In addition, simulating voices and basic video (such as hyperrealistic avatars) will become easier to make and better. This will open the path for semi-autonomous AI that have voice and video integration, allowing conversing with an AI to seem like conversing with someone over FaceTime. Also, LLMs will become easier to make and better, allowing one to have several different companies when choosing which AI plan to go with.
3 years from now: AI will continue to get cheaper and LLMs better. This increased availability of processing space will make it possible to give AI several different thought processes, including a faculty for long term memory. These new AI will be a lot less error prone and thus subject to consideration for businesses thinking of replacing desk workers. Many people will be worried about the accelerating pace of these changes and many will say "it's the end of the world", and in a way, they'll be right, at least of the world as they know it.
4 years from now: AI will continue to improve and cheapen, and more and more people will be subscribing to AI plans as they make life so much easier. With increasing mental capabilities following increasing improvements in GPUs and algorithms, semi-autonomous AI will be able to perform most tasks at high skill human-level. A very large chunk of desk employees will be replaced by AI, and even people in corporate jobs will be threatened. Many businesses will collapse under the weight of the shrinking economy so even previous whales of industry will be clamoring for change. Politicians will try to appease them but they will not be trusted because they are associated with failings of the old system. Countries around the world will face revolutions, in particular, autocratic ones like Russia and China, whose government's will most likely allow its people to starve.
