2023.06.07 18:21 Academic_Panda3165 AITAH for getting the neighborhood kids basically banned from one of the neighbors backyard for how my girls were getting treated by said neighbors' son

Long story short
About a week ago, my kids (10f and 8f) went to their friends house to play. It was raining outside, but the kids aren't allowed in the house to play. Anyway, when I went to go get my kids, they were soaked and covered in mud. My 8yo was in tears and crying saying she was cold and wanted to go home. I asked them what happened, and they told me that their friends brother (not sure how old they are but they're all elementary school age) sprayed them with the hose, and pushed my 8yo in the mud. Instead of making a scene in front of the kids, I took them home, and texted my kids friends mom what the girls told me.
Now my kids have a tendency to exaggerate what they tell me, but when they are in tears yeah something clearly happened. Anyway, I also mentioned that the girls told me that they get picked on by her son every time they go over. Then yesterday I get told none of the kids are allowed in the neighbors backyard to play anymore. So now I feel like an AH because I didn't want the kids to be banned from.the backyard. I was just getting tired of how my kids were getting treated by the neighbors son. So, AITA?

2023.06.07 18:21 reiji_tamashii Person detection doesn't work

First of all, I'm fairly new to Nest cameras. I bought a wired Doorbell (gen 2) earlier this year when they were on sale everywhere.
I have gone back and forth with configuring zones and removing them, but I simply can't get person detection to work reliably unless someone is within arms reach of the doorbell. We're having some remodeling work done, so contractors have been coming and going in the driveway, easily within view of the camera, but I've never gotten a notification. I don't want to get notifications for every motion event as it seems to be extremely sensitive and logs an event every time leaves blow in the wind.
The last straw was today when I happened to look back at the Motion recordings from yesterday and saw an unknown woman walking on my property, past my front door and looked directly into the doorbell camera. And I didn't receive a notification for it because it's logged in the video history as just "Motion" and not a person.
Is person detection just completely broken?
Screenshot of the totally-not-a-person motion event:

2023.06.07 18:16 TarbusCavarus [RF] Uncle Jim

Prologue
As the end of autumn approached, the chill of morning and evening began to cut through like a hunting knife. Through the tanker's windshield, the driver could see a woman wearing a knitted scarf and a blanket on her shoulders. She had sat down in the middle of the road and was howling long and heart-wrenching like a lament. Passers-by looked at her with horror, surprise, or contempt. When a lady in a fur coat approached her to inquire, the unfortunate woman began to roll on the ground, thrashing about like a rolling log heading down the valley, and screaming with even greater force and deeper sorrow, so loud that it could be heard all the way to the prefecture, after which she stopped in a sob, crying quietly like the water of a lowland spring. She was Uncle Jim's eldest daughter.
Part I
Mr. and Mrs. Axelton were two retirees with charitable souls. They had the sign of charity burning on the soles of their dusty, second-hand shoes, laced up with shoelaces they got from the thrift store. They brought a bag of beans for the dog, bananas for the children, bread, bologna, and mustard for the homeless - lost souls from the outskirts of the city. They entered the basement of an abandoned building through labyrinthine paths surrounded by plywood and wrought iron fences. The building was marked with a red dot.
Around an improvised brick stove, illegally connected to the neighbourhood’s electricity network, sat Uncle Jim, Melissa, the children, and Baxter, opening cans of food received from a philanthropic organization. Baxter was a small mongrel with blue-blooded hunting dog lineage, who always hovered around Jim and helped him beg. Mrs. Axelton felt more compassion for the dog than for the family without a penny.
Jim spent his days in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral with Googie Gums, Mr. Blondey, Fane Fairfax, and Tane Cuthbert. They lived as best they could. On the drier days, they humbly lined up behind the priests, praying for them to give them something from the charity box. In the evenings, they opened a cheap two-litter bottle of beer, played backgammon, talked about the fate of the country, football, and the apocalypse.
One spring afternoon, a benevolent gentleman took Jim aside, treated him royally, and offered him an impossible-to-refuse deal. He handed him two thousand five hundred lei in cash, for which all he had to do was sign some blank documents. At that time, it was a good sum of money. Jim thought that luck had fallen upon him like a huge wheel of cheese, so he immediately accepted, without hesitation. With the money, he bought new clothes for Melissa, notebooks for the children, food, and drink in abundance.
At the beginning of the summer, a conflict erupted with Mr. Axelton over such an absurd issue that it would make customers of the "Tancredi Kingsley Jr." brewery doubt the honesty of the storyteller. Mrs. Axelton, a sensitive and volunteer person, was involved in a campaign to save stray dogs who, without the dedication of people like her, would have ended up in miserable shelters on the outskirts of the city. Those who were up for adoption were taken off the streets, washed, vaccinated, and sent to their new owners.
Jane, a neighbour from the ghetto, had told Jim one evening while gossiping on the roadside that significant profits could be made from selling animals. Therefore, seeing the strange pensioner walking through the neighbourhood week after week taking care of stray dogs, the idea arose in his mind that these actions could only have mercantile and hidden purposes, from which he was unfairly excluded from sharing the profits.
Despite Axelton's explanation, treating him to a sausage roll and a coffee from the vending machine, Jim remained unchanged in his opinions, considering his neighbour guilty of greed. When he saw him coming out of the building or on his way to the grocery store, he shouted at him from the other side of the street to demand an explanation and followed him grumpily like an unhappy landlord who had not been paid rent for a long time. He had become a real nuisance on the head of our unfortunate citizen, who now found himself forced to make unimaginable detours from the exit of the building to the bus station just to avoid the annoying neighbour with whom he did not want to continue the confrontation.
Part II
Fortunately, an unexpected twist of fate spared Mr. Axelton from a steep climb up the confrontation ladder when Jim was unexpectedly summoned to the station by a local police officer. It turns out he had signed a mortgage without any collateral which he had no chance of repaying in this lifetime. He was charged with fraud and sent to the White Gate prison for five years. No one visited him. When he was released, after two and a half years of serving, he limped and had only a few teeth left in his mouth. It was as if he had aged ten years.
Meanwhile, Melissa had coupled up with Fane and had a child with him. They moved together to the Hopeless Heights, a neighbourhood built specifically for needy people, and Jim's children were sent to an orphanage. Baxter was taken in by a kind-hearted nobleman who loved animals and owned a seafood restaurant, entrusting him to a mute maid who walked him around the blocks three times a day. Sometimes, on summer days, dressed in a bathrobe and a pair of flip-flops, Sir. Hatchet Jenkins would come out with two other small dogs as big as cats who walked swaying like wind-up toys. He walked the streets like a traveling circus performer, but if anyone dared to mock him, he became so furious that he turned into a steam boiler, blowing heat through his nostrils and obscenities at his enemy, threatening to punch them, showing them the cane he would strike his heels with.
Uncle Jim first moved in front of St. Nicholas Church, where Father Murphy O'Malley served. He was a small man, always carrying a leather briefcase like a spy movie security agent, had a carefully groomed moustache, a gold watch and ring, and patent leather shoes. Everyone said he had the gift. He came to church in a luxury car. When he opened the door, he was greeted by a multitude of beggars, some of whom had come from neighbouring quarters, trying to kiss his hand and ask for coins. Jim didn't last long there, the competition was too high.
Lately, he had been experiencing more frequent headaches. He walked with a cane down the narrow street, swaying in the wind like a turnip pulled from the ground. I didn't think he would last much longer, but Uncle Jim had a survival instinct that most mortals lack. He stopped first at Mr. Axelton's, with whom he had made amends in the meantime, and asked for a pair of boots for the snowy weather and a packet of aspirin for his headache. He found an old fur hat with ears that had been thrown away and drank a cup of mulled wine, given as charity for the souls of the dead. Then, he found shelter in a cave under the ruins of an abandoned manor.
In the morning, he emerged from the ground like a contemporary Lazarus and sat next to the all-night convenience store near the Agriculture Department. On his way out, the kindest customers would always leave him something: a roll, a coin with the king's face on it, half a salami stick, a pair of socks, a cube of melted cheese, or a bottle of curdled milk. He had a yellow plastic bag in which he loaded all of his products. In the evening, when he returned to his lair, it was always full of wonders.
Epilogue
When spring arrived, Jim began to bloom like snowdrops. His teeth grew anew, made of copper, his hair turned green like grass, his eyes started to distinguish details with the precision of an eagle, his skin became as smooth as that of young boys, his arms became steel, his forehead raised, his thoughts became clear, and his vision became as clear as that of great wise men. It was rumoured that he was making so much money that he could move to a hotel. The last time I saw him was on a foggy April morning. He got into a taxi and disappeared into the smoke of history.

Would you help me make this house a home? [Advice/Blank Slate/New Space]

https://preview.redd.it/p3put7cyfm4b1.jpg?width=1411&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82fccb6cc996b817d73eba2e6c027bcde905fa74
I just moved into this place - starting from a blank slate. Sorry for the mess, working today, just got my work stuff setup for now. This is my office/hangout room. The home is ‘historic’ from the 1800s with plaster walls, (very uneven) wood floors throughout, etc.TV, bed, dining is elsewhere.
I’m kind of at a loss about how to best use this space!
Budget - $2KUSD Maximum
Requirements - I’d like:
- A work station (for tinkering/hobbies). Maybe something like this IVAR folding space (Link) or a folding gateleg table (like this: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/norden-gateleg-table-birch-90423887/).
- A space for my Piano/synths, the Piano is on the floor covered with a towel right now as you can see!
- A place for stereo (record player, speakers). Right now it's on an enormous 2nd desk (Previously known as Mega Desk), but it's not an efficient use of space.
- My current desk, which is 5 feet long, 2.5 feet deep). I go from sitting to standing daily.
- My cat needs to be able to jump in the window (this is the cushions and towel over radiator). The closet barely pictured (which makes the room kind of L shaped) is where her litter box is.
- Noise on the wall ‘opposite’ my desk (towards my back from where screen is currently facing) is kind of bad, other walls are very good noise/insulation.
- I work from home so I’d like my ‘background’ to be nice looking.
I’m open to having most of these be something that needs to be ‘setup’ and taken down, but I think I probably have enough space to get it all in.The view outside is ‘ok’ but not great.
The room is approximately 12*12 (about 4.0 meters) minus the closet space. The ceilings are pretty high - 10 feet or so (3.0 meters)
‘Easy Mode’ would be leaving the desk where it is, adding some shelving for the wall behind the desk, possibly the piano/synths there as well. To the right of the desk, my workbench and stereo.

Image #1 Closet to the left. Outlets bottom right, and left wall. Radiator straight ahead (can't move it!). back left corner is where the current drawers are.
Image #2 Piano, random paintings and stuff. Doorway out is to the right.
Image #3 - closet with litter box. Very crappy chest of drawers pictured.

2023.06.07 18:15 Malito_Mussoloni2 My personal eridium farming guide [2023]

I am not an expert player, I just want to report what worked for me, if something is wrong feel free to correct me
After my recent post I decided to condense all the advice players have given me into one small guide for all the old and new players.
There are in my opinion mainly 3 ways to farm eridium :

Loot not affected by mayhem mode
Kill everything till round 4/5, wave completed 4/5 but leave a couple of enemies alive YOU MUST NOT END THE SLAUGHTER SHAFT. We are looking for an enemy called "Titan" he spawns from a closed door (on the right) in the back of the map, where the stairs and the shutter with the blue graffiti is. Titan gives you 500E every time you kill him. To make this profitable you have to keep a couple of enemies, as soon as you kill Titan just teleport or die to make the last round start again and kill another time Titan, keep doing this until you get enough Eridium. Remember that if you kill all the enemies you will have to restart the whole Slaughter Shaft.
In my opinion 500E are not bad but the time it takes to reach the last wave and the possibility that all the enemies die does not particularly appeal to me as my favourite farming strategy

Nothing much to say, you just have to play, the whole place is basically an eridium farm. Turn on the event and then just go to Maurice. Remember that you have to complete the "password" Maurice mission before starting the Event every time or the door will be closed
I personally like playing this event more for farming weapons than eridium, but the whole map is full of eridium piles and eriudium dust piles.

Loot affected by mayhem mode
Reach this point of the map, there is a cave where you can go inside. Outside there is a chair with a radio on.
This strategy can be done in two ways:
  1. simply go to the cave and destroy all the eridium piles. There are 9 piles in total, all in the first part of the cave where the spray paint spot is and below. Some of them are invisible: it's not a bug they can be seen by an artifact but you don't need that, you can destroy the piles even if they are not visible. As soon as you destroy all the piles just quit to main menu and continue. More or less i was making around 150/180E in less than one minute if i'm not wrong
  2. this version of the strategy requires some appropriate gear. All that matters is to apply as many elements as you can to your melee. To simply do that i use:
Put the shield that makes your life below 50%, put back the shock bonus shield, take out the URad weapon, melee all the piles. Quit to main menu and repeat.
With this strategy (2) i make more or less 350/380 E in more or less 1 minute. This is my favourite strategy.
Remember that if you don't have all the gear listed you are just gonna make less Eridium.
Just a quick tip: before you start to re-roll anointments (because i think this is what you are farming mostly eridium for) make a backup save file to use in case you don't get the desired anointments. It saves you from endless farming. On PC (steam) Save files are located in Documents/My games/Bl3/Saved/Save Games/numbersfoldeNumber.sav
Thank you.

2023.06.07 18:14 TheRealElDiablo 2012 JKU - Interior Noise and Bluetooth Phone Calls

I have a 2012 JKU Sahara. Has the uconnect touch screen. I have been trying to make this thing usable so I can make calls over blue tooth while driving. I have installed a hot heads headliner (with sound deadening strips). I have insulated the floors with Kilmat sound deadening and even some foam in the front (haven't finished the entire floor yet). I replaced the door seals and the header seal. And I replaced the foam and rubber pieces around the Hardtop.
Still not able to make calls while driving in the ~60+ mph range. People on the other end, just cant hear me.
I am now considering changing the stereo unit. I have specifically been looking at the Kenwood Excelon DMX709S. It shows to have some sort of noise canceling setting on the microphone. I'm sure other units have that too.
Has anyone had experience with this? Any other things to try? I know its a loud jeep and it won't be perfect, but I just want to get it to a functional state.

2023.06.07 18:13 Wazbe Diablo 4 Collapsed Vault Bug Guide: How to Bypass Foggy Door

Step-by-Step Guide for Diablo 4 - Collapsed Vault - Side Dungeon:
  1. Begin by entering the Collapsed Vault side dungeon in Diablo 4.
  2. Progress through the dungeon until you reach the Unstable Rampart area.
  3. Clear out all the enemies in the Unstable Rampart area to proceed to the next step.
  4. Once you have eliminated all the enemies, you will encounter a door covered in fog that is meant to lift.
  5. However, there is a bug in the game that may prevent the fog from lifting, blocking your progress.
  6. To fix this bug, you need to leave the dungeon and re-enter it. Do not manually walk back to the entrance; instead, use the Leave Dungeon command in the options menu.
  7. After leaving the dungeon, re-enter it by selecting the Collapsed Vault side dungeon again.
  8. Repeat steps 2-7 as necessary until the foggy door lifts and allows you to proceed.
  9. It may take a couple of attempts before the bug is resolved and you can progress beyond the foggy door.
  10. Once you have successfully passed through the foggy door, continue exploring the Collapsed Vault side dungeon and complete the remaining objectives.
Note: The bug fix described in this guide may be specific to the "Slay Enemies in Unstable Rampart" quest step in the Collapsed Vault side dungeon. If you encounter other issues or bugs in different areas or quests, additional troubleshooting steps may be required.

2023.06.07 18:10 coloradogal1 Detailed 12-Day Luxe Itinerary & Review

Hi all -
Since this sub was so helpful while planning my trip, I wanted to share my detailed 12-day itinerary, pricing and reviews for a luxe Bali trip. I lived there for three months 15 years ago on a student budget, so wanted to go back and experience it a bit differently.
Driver: I worked with Kadek at Pemuteran Menjangan Bali Transport. His prices were higher than a lot of other drivers, but of the drivers I reached out to prior to departure he was most responsive, easy to work with and made a ton of itinerary suggestions. His costs included all entrance fees, hiking guides, fast boat arrangements, as well as some lunches. Even though he was the most expensive driver I talked to, not having to plan out logistics every day and just hop in the car made the premium guide costs absolutely worth it in my mind. You can find him on TripAdvisor with the business name above, or I’m happy to share his whatsapp in a DM.
I had zero interest in riding a motor bike there, and saw at least one accident and someone at the airport who very distinctly looked like he had been part of a motor bike accident. Ironically, when we got home to the US we overheard someone at breakfast also talking about their friend who was involved in a motor bike accident in Bali.
High Level Agenda:
Details:
Ubud Bisma Eight, $1,100 USD for 4 nights including airport transit
Hotel impressions: This was a perfect mid-range priced hotel, central to the city center so a great place to walk around from, and probably had our favorite breakfasts during our stay. The vibe was modern, great views from the rooms and infinity pool, wonderful service. Absolutely would stay again.
Day 1 - Arrival / transit day, landed at 7pm, checked in around 9pm Day 2 - Ubud city center We planned this day just to wander around Ubud, lunch at Kafe, window shopping, bought some fruit at the art market. We intentionally avoided making plans this day, since we knew we’d want to acclimate and just enjoy walking around town. Day 3 - East Bali Tour with Kadek - 900k IDR per person including lunch, admissions, snorkeling tour * Snorkeling in Padangbai - Great snorkeling at two different spots * Tirta Gangga - Spent about 30 minutes wandering around the gardens, sitting down, enjoying the scenery. * Tukad Cepung Waterfall - Be prepared for lots of stairs, very cool waterfalls, def a “stand in line to take your photo” kind of experience but overall there weren’t too many people there while we were so didn’t have to wait too long. * Gates of Heaven - We opted NOT to do this, since we weren’t very interested in standing in a long line just for a manufactured photo opportunity. Day 4 - Mt Batur hike 1,050k IDR per person (cost also included hot springs, but we ended up skipping and just going back to Ubud to relax at the pool after the hike). Got socked in with clouds for sunrise, but honestly watching the clouds roll by was almost as enjoyable as a brilliant sunrise would have been. Hike is strenuous but doable, and you definitely want to hire a guide, since we heard at least one person getting harassed for not hiring a guide. Mixed feels on this, but overall it comes down to “respect the local customs and economy” for me. We were done and back to the hotel by 11 or so, and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool and napping. Day 5 - Sites in and around Ubud, 795k with Kadek covering all admissions * Goa Gajah - Really cool temple that’s worth checking out to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and old stone temple carvings. Since we did this first thing, we had the place to ourselves. Be sure to check out the caves tucked along the river. * Gunung Kawi Temple - If you only visit one temple, personally, I recommend this one. Lots of stairs but it is STUNNING and you just feel like you’re surrounded by nature and spirituality. Both this trip and when I lived there 15 years ago, it’s one of my favorite spots in all of Bali. * Tegalalang Rice Terrace - Cool to see, but definitely felt like too curated of an experience. Felt like an amusement park located in a rice terrace. * Checked into Mandapa around 2pm so we could enjoy the resort for the full afternoon
Mandapa Ritz Carlton - $1,700 USD for 2 nights
Hotel Impressions: Holy heck, if you have the ability to splurge, do not miss this resort. I have never felt so spoiled or relaxed in my life. The spa was incredible ($400 for 90 minutes couples massage), the free morning yoga overlooked the river, and the service was absolutely unparalleled. The team there would greet you by name, the attention to details with the room - it was absolute perfection and I don’t think I will ever enjoy a resort this much again. It’s a little more removed from city center, but the resort is so beautiful we didn’t really feel like leaving anyway.
Day 6 - Resort day. Yoga, breakfast, massages, pool day - After spending the previous several days doing day trips, we left this as a day to just spend time relaxing, and I’m so glad we did.
Day 7 - Transit from Ubud to Sanur, with shopping stops on the way (650k per person)
Mas (wood carving), Batuan Village (painting gallery), Celuk (gold and silver smith). We wanted to get to Sanur the day before our Nusa Penida trip so we didn’t have to worry about being in a rush to catch the fast boat to Nusa Penida, and I really wanted to do some shopping anyway so it worked out well.
Sanur Klumpu Resort for $158 - Really loved this small villa style resort. Funky architecture, a little less curated feeling than the other resorts we stayed at, and would make for a really great extended stay place close to Sanur beach.
Day 8 - Sanur beach and fast boat to Nusa Penida. Spent the morning walking the path along the beach, stopping for breakfast and coffee, and enjoying the vibes without having an itinerary. Caught one of the last boats to Nusa Penida so we could get there in time for the 3 pm check in at Maua Nusa Penida
Nusa Penida
Maua Nusa Penida - $500 USD for 2 nights. 1,450k IDR for fast boat, nusa penida transit to / from port and beach tour day trips, again all arranged by Kadek.
Hotel Impressions - Newer hotel in Nusa Penida that’s a bit far away from any action, but the hotel was so nice to spend time in we didn’t mind just hanging out there in our private pool and eating at some of their restaurants. They had a special Indonesian Buffet which was actually some of the best food we had there as far as taste and quality went.
Day 9 - Nusa Penida Beach Tour Spent the morning touring Angel Billabong, Broken Beach, Angel Billagong and lounging at Crystal Bay. The sites were absolutely stunning, got some good photos but the iconic beach spots were SO crowded that I’m not sure it was worth it. Crystal Bay was great - very few people at the beach, so this was a nice way to spend a couple hours swimming and enjoying the scenery. Spent the afternoon relaxing at the hotel.
Jimbaran Bay / Uluwatu
Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay, $2,400 USD for 2 nights
Hotel Impressions: We chose to end our visit to Bali here, closer to the airport. There’s a reason this is considered one of the best beach resorts in the world. The villas were older than Mandapa, but the gardens and views were just beautiful. We really enjoyed our time here relaxing, using their beach lounge facility, and wandering around the gardens. The food at Sundara was good - but not memorable. I’d probably stick to just cocktails and snacks there rather than doing a full higher end meal.
Day 10 - Morning transit from Nusa Penida to Four Seasons. The original plan had been to go to Uluwatu for the fire dance, but it was unfortunately sold out. This was a huge bummer since I’d really been looking forward to this part, but we went straight to the hotel and didn’t mind having the day to relax there.
Day 11 - Four seasons resort day
Day 12 - Departure. Spent the morning and afternoon lounging around the resort. Four Seasons were very generous with a 3pm check out, but were happy to let us use the facilities, spa, pools, etc as long as we wanted to since our flight wasn’t until 10pm.
What I loved * Mandapa. We only did two nights and we very strongly considered canceling our Sanur night and staying an extra day. Will absolutely be back for a longer stay. * Sanur - we only had one morning to mosey along the beach, but next time I go back, I would add in three days here with no plans other than just wandering around. It was also great staying at less of a resort and more of a boutique villa that was a great home base. * Gunung Kawi - I explored this temple the first time I was in Bali, and knew I needed to come back.
What I wish I’d done differently * More time just wandering. We did a great job planning out day trips and balancing those with resort days to just relax and decompress, which was a great balance. However, I do wish we’d had more time to just… wander. We had a couple days or mornings like this, and they ended up being some of our favorite days. * Nusa Penida - Maybe I would have liked this more if we actually snorkeled or went diving. I loved the hotel we stayed at, and I suppose I’m glad I’ve been, but the beach tours were just so crowded and spread apart. It was a long day for just a few minutes at each spot. Next time we return, I’m skipping Nusa Penida and would probably stick to Nusa Lembongon or Sanur.

2023.06.07 18:10 Xzenergy Cube [Chapter 6]

“You’re trying to get me reassigned, is that it?” Eris wrung his metal hands together, the plastic and steel giving off soft screeching which added a tensity not uncommon to him.
“I found something, there was something down there.”
Eris leaned back, “a glove wouldn’t have lasted this long without an entanglement array.”
“It wasn’t a glove–it was something else. There were smaller machines with it.” Gareth tried to find the small imperfection on the jet black table where he had his first meeting, but it was no longer there. This was a different table, from another meeting chamber.
“How many different machinations have we encountered in these old places? It’s probably a def-sec droid wandering until its bearings rot out,” Eris replied, “what I do know is that Trigam Hesst and ten other engineers dropped out of entanglement last night and are said to be in the wind.”
Gareth straightened, “Trigam joined Theron…”
“I wouldn’t dwell on that, Gareth. Nobody could stand the guy, eight months was his longest lead underling. It was a matter of time. And for them to attack you like that? They knew their tickets had been punched.” Eris shook his head.
An alarm chimed and the entrance doors whooshed open, revealing the security attache that seemed to never leave the Triarch’s side. They entered the hall and dispersed, one to each corner and two to the doors.
The Triarch approached the table and gestured for the standing Eris to take his seat, “we find ourselves meeting at another crossroad.”
He sat and folded his ivory and gold hands together, optics focusing on both of them. Gareth glanced at the strange marking on the outer left panel of Triarch’s arm. Three small triangles in line, one after the other. Perhaps a tattoo? He couldn’t tell.
“I’ve been told you’re in good health.” He said to Gareth.
Gareth nodded, “I’ve been through worse.”
“Are we talking about the fall? Or the attack?”
Gareth looked up, “the attack was somewhat of an inconvenience. Eris has informed me Trigam and my crew have all disentangled?”
The Triarch nodded, “it’s true. We’re initiating scatter protocols and shutting down the outgoing array. They’re trapped here, for now. We’ll find them, their crimes carry a heavy debt. You’re being absolved of their glove bonds.”
Eris leaned in, “and of that, we are immensely grateful.”
“Hopefully we can put all of this in the past and move on to the moot with better heads,” The Triarch displayed a small blue digital clock, its holographic hands ticking down the hours until the meeting of the Cube units, to gather and make sure all was going to plan.
“What about the underground site?” Gareth asked.
A silence fell between the three, a feigned moment of reflection.
“The area you fell into is non-viable. Far too many hazards to warrant an excursion.” The Triarch replied.
Gareth tensed, “This hidden sector is remarkably well preserved. There could be invaluable information-”.
Triarch folded his hands together, “it’s simply not an option. With the rogue workers unarrested and you being a prime target, separation from the Cube would increase the risk of harm towards yourself. Harm towards the Ministry.”
“Which is totally understandable-,” Eris added.
Gareth shook his head, “with an excavation team and two security gloves, I could sweep through the complex in less than a week. Data I’ve already recovered leads me to suspect something of relevance lay below.”
“You really don’t understand the word no, do you?” The Triarch scoffed.
Gareth leaned back, “If I’m off Cube, then perhaps Trigam will be motivated to find easier work. It would take much more for them to commandeer the necessary things-”.
Triarch shook his head, “the answer is and will be; no. Now, if there isn’t any other matter to discuss, I’ll be leaving you an itinerary. You’re to follow it for the next seventeen days, until we arrive at the moot.”
The glimmering admin stood and moved to the exit, stopping just before the door, “I suggest you take measures to examine your behavior very closely. This meeting will not happen a third time.”
The exit whooshed close and Eris stood, making his way to the opposite door without a word.
“You’re not going to support me in this?” Gareth asked, standing and following Eris, catching up to his heel with a small skip.
Eris stopped and raised a finger, but remained silent and turned forward keeping his quick pace.
“I’ve found something to keep me occupied and now suddenly it’s off limits?”
“You know that’s not what this is. You were told to go to your lab and instead, you did the same thing you always do. Not listen to a single word.”
Gareth had to walk quickly to keep up, “ I was on my way, I can’t stop and gather supplies?”
“We both know what you were doing, so don’t give me that. This is on you now, I need a fucking sleep cycle.”
“Eris!” Gareth shouted into the cloud.
The admin stopped and turned to face him, “have you considered maybe it’s time to leave restoration? Take up another discipline, or return to a baser one from your storied past.”
Gareth felt the sting of the separation. He understood that Eris couldn’t afford to continue taking the collateral he had been.
“Fine, I’ll return to my lab and hovel if that’s what you really want. But there’s something in that base.”
Eris had turned and started down the narrow walkway once more, “I don’t care if there’s a nude beach and free vodka down there. Please try to stay safe Gareth, that’s all I will say.”
He watched Eris walk away, fidgeting as he went.
The stress he himself was imparting to those around him made him want to vomit. It created a knot in his stomach, guilt and anxiety beginning to creep their way in like a smooth oil which coated the brain and forced all color and feeling away.
“Rube, have we run anything else on the artifact?” Gareth asked, remembering the strange lead box he recovered from the vault incident.
There was no reply.
“Rube? Command access.”
Still, silence on his end of the cloud.
Gareth turned and brought up the junction logic path, calculating the shortest route back to his laboratory.
“Rube, if you can hear me, initiate lockdown on the lab and my quarters.”
The distance to his personal sector, in the upper quarters of the Cube, was ten solid minutes away and Gareth rushed the entire length, heart racing. Rube never went offline, something was wrong. Images of lab contamination flashed through his mind, whatever in the lead box leaking into the space and destroying everything.
He pulled up the command log, which was empty of any directive towards the box. Just because he hadn’t told Rube to do anything didn’t mean there wasn’t another possible sequence of events.
He hadn’t even scanned the box for leaking radiation.
Panicked, he rushed through the pneumatic doors to his lab and found nothing amiss. Besides the fact that Rube had been force restarted and the lead box was missing from its bay. He had been robbed.
“Eris, I have a problem.” He pushed the message to the admin.
Eris groaned, “for god’s sake, what now?”
“They hit my laboratory, Rube has been shut down and I have an artifact missing.” Gareth replied, sweeping over the rest of his lab. Nothing else seemed to be out of place.
“I’ll send forensics.”
Some time later a team of scanning drones arrived and began looking over every surface in the chamber. They were accompanied by a controller supervisor, who stood in the center and interpreted the data coming from the scans.
“How’s it looking?” Gareth asked him, after a while of silence between the two.
The controller, Mek, shook his head, “there’s almost nothing. A single ping on the local module station. There’s a small nick on the surface of the interface. I’m analyzing it for any foreign contact traces.”
Hmm, it’s unlike Trigam to be this clean, Gareth mused.
“More likely a drone, not exactly sure how it passed all the visual and digital checkpoints though.” The operator finished.
They both stood for a moment transfixed by the irregularity.
“I’ll be in my personal quarters, if anything else comes up.” Gareth said, turning away without a reply and striding out of his lab.
He wanted to drop by the printers and grab an urn if he could. The last one was disrespected and he felt the urge to make it right. The door opened and he was met by a massive wall of security glove, amber glow washing through the corridor.
The security glove, whose name Gareth had forgotten, turned and looked down, “you’re not to leave your sector for the next seventy-two hours.”
Gareth cringed but conceded and backed away without a word. He stood in front of the closing door, rage spilling over.
They lock me down, but I’m the victim, he thought.
Of all the things he had done and seen, he felt like the Triarch was chastising him. Like a boy too naive to realize he’s stuck his hand in a running gearbox. Like he hadn’t spent the last three hundred years serving the Ministry, trying to work off his debt in any manner that was asked of him.
“System restore initialized, rechecking cache parameters.” Rube’s ethereal voice came over the cloud.
“Rube,” Gareth sighed, “what the hell happened?”
The AI was silent for a moment, as it began to recompile the data stream right up until he was deactivated.
“My logs do not have sufficient information to form a solid hypothesis.”
Gareth moved to Rube’s access control module in the lab, making sure to give the forensics drones a wide berth.
“Current system status indicates the remote access protocol junction is still active.” Rube confirmed.
Gareth shook his new optics laden head, “how were they able to retrieve the artifact?”
Rube spent another couple of seconds forming his response, “It is possible a small scatter drone was used to physically remove the sample container.”
“Container?”
“I should make it known that I had already removed the datagram, which is now being analyzed and processed.”
Gareth would smirk if he had a mouth.
He moved to the edge of the control module, peering deep into a running window of metadata and streaming code. It was all storage parameters and audit log interfaces.
Gareth shifted forward, “wait…did you see that?”
The lines of shifting data stopped, “there is an internal link command interface, encrypted.” Rube announced.
Gareth backed away from the running module and turned towards his own quarters, “please route and extract to my terminal.”
His personal quarters were immaculate, no clutter or unnecessary disorganization. In the corner, next to his sleep dock, was his personal terminal, which he plugged into using one of the data access cables peeking from the chest of his frame. He let out a sigh as the data came streaming across the flat crystal display.
Authorized User Access Key:
“Shit,” Gareth whispered, “it's encrypted using a hash table algorithm. Rube, can you run this interface through all of the recorded prism tables we have?”
Rube began the process without a word, silently running the access interface key through an enormous group of hash key repositories, used to decrypt datagems found in the field.
“Estimated time to hash decryption: fourteen hours.”
Gareth sighed once more, “that’s not terrible I suppose.”
Gareth sat down on a rough hewn square of metal, covered in a rubber material meant for grip. His mechanical body had no need for physical rest, but he did so anyway, freeing up some space for his mind to think.
He listened to the soft squeaks of metal on compressed rubber and ruminated on the apocalypse that took place on this wasted sphere. He tried to imagine the fall, tried to picture the end of all things below the skies of Kine, but his imagination remained slumbering. He was too upset at the Triarch to ponder.
Too upset at the imposed curfew.
Rube’s voice interrupted his frustrated stream of thought, “incoming communication from Huew Korrin.”
Gareth sat forward, “Huew, how are things?”
A voice like water running over rough gravel came through the channel, “I heard about what happened, those fucking scumbags. They’ll be welcome additions to Yok, he loves assholes.”
“Yeah,” Gareth shook his head, “they’ve got me locked up now.”
“They put you in a cell!?” Huew asked.
“No, no, they stuck me in my quarters. Seventy-two hours.” Gareth replied.
“You’re the one that got attacked!” Huew roared.
Gareth shrugged with his hands, “for my own protection.”
“Heard that one before,” Huew growled, “you’re lucky they didn’t send you off world.”
Gareth chuckled, “at this point, I probably wouldn’t argue with that.”
“Bullshit, you belong in your lab. It’ll be a lot harder to figure out what happened here without you.”
Gareth huffed, “there are twelve other Cubes, I’m sure they’ll come to a conclusion. My professional expertise is currently under scrutiny.”
“If I got spooked everytime someone scrutinized my work, I’d be in an asylum.” Huew laughed. Huew was a mechanical engineer, everyone in the Cube looked at his work on a daily basis.
Gareth shared the laugh, but at the back of his mind he could feel the chords of his thoughts tighten and stretch taught.
“Listen,” Huew continued, “I don’t know what you think you did to deserve this, but you didn’t. Just put your nose down and you’ll get to the other end soon enough, these suits are jumpy, that’s all.”
“The suits are slowly pushing me out of my job.”
“No, they’ve put you on a two day time out. Don’t act like it’s fuckin’ severance.”
Gareth couldn’t argue, Huew was right. If he couldn’t survive two days by himself then he had much bigger water to tread.
He tried to divert, “how’s your end coming along?”
Huew gave a heavy sigh, “well, there’s so much on the ticket system I can’t read the fuckin’ thing. I’ve got jobs coming out of my goddamn ears and not enough people to plug 'em up. But that’s not unusual for me.”
“Maybe I can help? Get my mind off things.” Gareth suggested.
He could hear Huew shaking his heavy metallic head, “you're too good to be a grease monkey, Gareth. Far too much in that head of yours to be turning wrenches and running lathes.”
“I’ve run a lathe before, I actually quite liked it.” Gareth replied.
“Oh I’ve no doubt you’d be able to do the job and do it well. It’s the other monkeys.” Huew said, allowing silence to hang between the two for a moment.
“Right,” Gareth sighed, “the other monkeys.”

2023.06.07 18:09 Circuit_Deity De School Set Reports: 28/4 , 29/4, 5/5 and 3/6

Long overdue set reports! I promised one for Pariah’s set on 5/5 a while ago and never followed through - here they all are, spurned by my return to our favorite basement after a month abroad. Consider it a miracle that I recall enough to write this up 😵‍💫
Friday 28/4:
Arrived at around 2:30am, and stood in the no tickets line as always(I find it is usually shorter and quicker than getting a ticket). My favorite selector there(sassy, “let’s see those IDs loves!), and in within 10 minutes.
My roommate, partner and I first spent some time in the garden smoking and socializing, but quickly made our way down for Orphx, who were finishing up their set - a bit slower(134bpm?), hypnotic, great live set and loved watching those two work in unison. Nothing that got me into stampede mode but nice to hear a bit more of a classic Detroit sound in the basement.
UVB took over and things began to blur for us - the M my partner and I had taken earlier started to make itself known and we fell into the groovy trap UVB set for us. Dancing separately but as one, feeling like you’re the only person dancing in your own little black hole on the dance floor. Such a lovely feeling opening your eyes when the beat gets harder and seeing the crowd writhe together.
Around 6am I was helping a person clean up their bottle that fell from the front right bass boxes when a friend in their group(clad only in a full body harness, you were v hot btw) offered me a wet wipe as a return favor. His smile was so genuine and lovely, and the wet wipe revived me! Such a nice little moment on that dance floor, it’s these kind of moments I seek out on these nights 🖤
Refreshed and full of love, we kept dancing until close, UVB delivering a booming, relentless set without it getting tiring. Seeing DJs like him playing reminds one that certain people just have the ability to master a soundsystem - kick after kick without it getting mushy and boring.
A lovely closing and a nice bike ride home - first one for me this year where the weather was warm and beautiful. A little joint and lots of rest to close out my consciousness for the day.

Saturday 29/4:
Rested a little and brought my partner to Schiphol, attended a fun BBQ in Leiden, and then return to Amsterdam with an itch to dance again. UVB’s closing had left me unsatisfied and with a need for more untz untz.
Arrived again around 2am, same situation as the night before. Met an Irish couple in the line(I say couple tentatively as they claim they’d broken up a month before but were still all over each other), and gave them some leftover party favors before making an Irish exit(like a magical drug fairy).
Went downstairs to Ben Sims shepherding the floor into a raucous scene - wonderful crowd that evening, who were all letting go completely. I joined a group up front who I see often(tall femme person with leopard print hair, lingerie top to bottom, tall skinny masc with slicked back hair and 00’s style Oakleys - forgot your names if you guys are on here!), and danced danced danced.
Kerrie took over for Ben around 5 but I felt the groove wasn’t there; she played very hard, a bit too much, and the bass felt very muddled. The type of techno you’d get at Verknipt - fun to dance hard to for a little while, but unsustainable. Nonetheless, I stayed until closing, driven by some kind of stubborn determination to see the night out twice in one weekend.
On my way out, I saw the Irishman I’d met earlier, standing sadly by the bathroom entrances. He’d been shrugged off by his companion, and was distraught. Gave him a hug and a pep talk, and cycled home. A kind of melancholy reminder that not everyone has a good night.
Garmin watch step count: 24,337
Friday 5/5:
Was very ready for this one! Had felt soooo shit the previous week after my double header, so when I woke up Friday with the dance bug, I knew it was meant to happen. Enlisted my roommate/trusty dance partner to join me, and we arrived a bit early, 12:30am or so. Did so because I wanted to catch the tail end of Loek Frey, who I’ve become quite interested in, seeing some of his online sets.
He was playing a slow, hypnotic set, full of bleeps, bloops, and intertwined melodies. Great slow start in the basement - sound was good and I’d love to see him play a later slot in DS sometime! Just know he was holding back some banging because of the time slot.
After a toilet and smoke break my roommate and I decided to stay upstairs for Roi Perez’s set - what a lovely decision! It truly felt like a night at Pano where everyone is happy, celebrating, in unison. People waving and smiling at each other from across the room, Roi gleefully leading us into the morning. If you were there and you saw a tall, black haired man losing it on the raised podium, that was me. There was a moment went Roi transitioned into a song(ID unsure) with heavy gospel vocals, and the light person took the cue and suddenly the bright yellow spotlights flooded him with light from behind - a moment I’ll never forget. He appeared like some kind of angel of techno, delivering us to hedonism and salvation.
After he finished, with light peeking in the windows behind, my roommate and I thought about leaving on a good note and skipping the migration down to the basement - but we stayed, and I’m so glad we did.
Pariah was still in his first hour downstairs, keeping it easy and danceable, but not apocalyptic. However, this quickly changed. The last two hours downstairs were the most insane sonic experience I’ve never had the pleasure of witnessing. It was like what we had just experienced upstairs had gone to the dark side; a seething, undulating mass of noise that shouldn’t have been music but yet made us DANCE!
Pariah showed us what an absolute master of sound design he is - I felt like there were times he wasn’t even selecting a track, just isolating the perfect different waves and then slowly combining them into an overwhelming beat that drove the crowd crazy. So many moments that night when insanity broke out - cheering, stomping, arms all in the air. It was like he was playing a live set in the style of Stef M, but on CDJs. Unbelievable.
When the set ended, the crowd cried for more and he cried back “I’ve run out of tunes!” I saw more people come up to him after and thank him for the set than I’ve ever seen for another DJ there before(myself included). My best club night ever, by far.

Saturday 3/6
I’d said in a thread here that I was going the night before, but my roommate and I weren’t feeling it after roomie night with the others, so we saved our energy for Saturday.
Usual time of arrival, around 1:30am; walked right in - also the first time I’ve had one of the security guards make a comment about the stickers on my phone case(“Ik hoef t niet voor jou te uitleggen, hé?”). Felt good, haha.
Went straight downstairs right when DJ Shahmarab was handing off to Crystallmess - who demonstrated good DJ skills but I felt not a great connection with the dance floor. It seemed we were all eager to get into a dance trance, but they kept transitioning to very hip-hoppy edits and it was hard to get into a groove. An interesting style to hear in the DS basement, but not really my thing. Thusly my roommate and I spent a good part of this set socializing upstairs in the garden.
Went back down to catch Juliana Huxtable, and felt a similar style, but with more extended periods to dance - a bit more boomy and thumping with more classic techno elements. Danced until around 6:30 when our bodies told us it was time to head home!
Overall not as notable as the aforementioned nights, but still fun to be there on a quieter night, and I saw my friends(leopard print/oakleys) again!

Now really looking forward to SPFDJ this weekend and Het Weekend later this month!
Love to hear if any of you guys were also at these nights and have similar or contrasting experiences!

Dracaena help
So i recently bought this dracaena plant a couple of months ago (I have no idea what the species is). This is my first time taking care of a plant so I would appreciate if any one could give me some advice. Since I’ve got it, I haven’t seen much growth, the tips of the leaves are starting to brown and the roots are growing out of the drainage holes. I also have been watering it with tap water which I now realize was a mistake and I placed it in front of an east facing window.
