When I was in school, I was very jealous of the girls who had families with more money. My family was very poor and I didn't have any nice things like they did, which made me feel different and weird. I was young, and regretfully acted like a brat at times, being dramatic and crying to my mom about why she can't get us nice things. I became very jealous of these girls, and hateful.
In middle school, I tried to use my poverty to my advantage. I tried to make myself seem tough, as a way to bring attention to myself, a way to make myself seem cool and catch people off guard. I was still jealous and hateful. I especially hated this girl who had seemingly everything, yet still had mental and health problems. I was upset that she got to be a victim and have nice things. I hated her, though she was sweet and never did anything mean to me.
I left that school and didn't see her again. I still had this left over hate and jealousy though, and would look her and her friends up on Instagram to see what they've been up to. I eventually decided that I didn't want to be hateful anymore, since it was making my life worse. I asked myself if she actually did anything wrong, and I realized the answer was no. I decided to try to stop being jealous and hateful.
But I still have this urge to compete with people for who has had the hardest life. In my twisted mind, I feel like whoever has struggled the most has also achieved the most, right? Because if you are average, then that's not impressive. But if you're average, yet have overcome childhood neglect, being able to raise yourself as a young teen, walk 2.5 miles a day because you don't have a car, live in a house with no heat, have to work full time while in high school to pay bills, all while suffering severe sensory issues. That's impressive, right?
But it turns out other people can play that game too. I met someone who literally grew up in a cult, suffered horrible abuse during their childhood, moved out at 17, cut off their family, suffer from some of the most severe mental illnesses and back pain. He gets angry at random times and his tone can be a little scary, and he does some drugs. He excuses this by saying how much he's gone through, and he's praised for "functioning as well as he has" even though he can do shitty things sometimes. If I complain about something tough I'm going through, he gets upset and counters it with worse things he's gone through.
All this feels like a weight I don't want to carry. I often exaggerate my stories to make myself sound tougher. I hate stretching the truth like this. I don't want to have to wear these struggles like armor. I don't want to constantly feel the need to compete with everyone else's struggles. There must be a way out of this crazy mindset. Can anyone help me?

This increased availability of processing space will make it possible to give AI several different thought processes, including a faculty for long term memory. These new AI will be a lot less error prone and thus subject to consideration for businesses thinking of replacing desk workers. Many people will be worried about the accelerating pace of these changes and many will say "it's the end of the world", and in a way, they'll be right, at least of the world as they know it.
4 years from now: AI will continue to improve and cheapen, and more and more people will be subscribing to AI plans as they make life so much easier. Many products with an electronic component will develop AI integration allowing for AI to make even more of your life more convenient. People's worries will subside and be replaced by anger at layoffs that are happening at an increasing rate, and government's will convene to discuss solutions to the impending economic crisis. 5 years from now: As the economy declines, AI progress will actually speed up, as it continues to be a money maker for big companies. A very large chunk of desk employees will be replaced by AI, and even people in corporate jobs will be threatened. Many businesses will collapse under the weight of the shrinking economy so even previous whales of industry will be clamoring for change. Politicians will try to appease them but they will not be trusted because they are associated with failings of the old system. Countries around the world will face revolutions, in particular, autocratic ones like Russia and China, whose government's will most likely allow its people to starve.
Ok, so that's my prediction. I do think that eventually the world will adjust and things will get better than they have ever been before, but I think we'll have quite a long time of challenge and strife before that happens during which countries will either choose to unite under the hardship like during COVID or go to war and end humanity's reign on this planet.

A few people had made earlier posts about this place, not mentioning them by name, but I think they kind of need to be blasted out if this is going to be a normal thing. When I first started noticing the comments and posts, we had already signed our lease, so my hope was that things would work out better for us. They didn't.
In order to ensure that they would even take our application, they forced us to tell our current property manager that we were vacating six months before our current lease was even up. We were told that they FOR SURE had 3 apartments in the floor plan that we wanted that would be available for our move-in date.
We've since started packing and getting ready for our move next month whenever they called us this morning to tell us that their renewal percentage rates were too high and that they would not have an apartment for us at all. We asked to be put in a different model, or style and they refused, saying that they are completely at capacity.
Meanwhile, our current property has neglected to do ANYTHING at our apartment since we've already given notice that we were vacating.
We were informed that we'll be receiving our deposit back, minus the "application fee" that these crooks stole from us. They flat-out lied when they told us that they 100% had an apartment for us. They claim we were "put on a wait list", but that's simply not true. That is not what we were told.
I know that the same company owns 3 complexes around here, and I've been told that they all use this weird predatory type of arrangement.
Definitely cannot recommend them. Take it for what you will, as this is just my personal experience -- but this is the third or fourth post about this particular complex in the past few months.

I am looking to build a new Computer capable of running the latest and upcoming games at 1440p High-Ultra Settings. I have already decided on most components except for the GPU so I wanted to ask if maybe someone could help. My 4 options are 4070 (600€) / 6950XT (650€) and 7900XT (800€) / 4070 Ti (840€). My problem is that I don't know if the performance uplift of the more expensive GPU's is really worth it and if I should go for NVIDIA or AMD as AMD has a slight advantage in rasterization performance but NVIDIA has better features like DLSS3. Also I am not sure if I'd use Raytracing as my current card can't handle it so I don't really know if it's worth the performance drop.
What would be your choice between those options?

This may not be right forum to post this, and if so mods delete. Its kind of a rant and includes a question about pricing, so roast me if you must.
I installed a new Lennox Seer 22 XC-20-048 system in my house in New Orleans in 2020. The company I purchased from is large and advertises constantly in the area. I chose this system because the condensing unit is 18" from my bedroom window is almost silent and allows me to sleep at night. I paid an exorbitant price but the silent condenser was worth it to me. Its worked perfectly for 3 years until last weekend.
At installation I bought the lifetime labor warranty ($250) plus the annual maintenance plan. I change the return air filter on a regular basis. In 2022 I failed to renew the maintenance plan and that's on me, I just forgot to follow up with renewal. Three weeks ago I called the vendor and had them do a pre-summer system check and renewed the maintenance plan. Everything checked out fine. That was May 11.
Last Saturday the house started getting hot and by Sunday was 85 degrees inside with the unit running constantly. I called the company all weekend and finally got a call back Monday morning. Same tech who did the maintenance last month came out and told me that the evaporator coil had a leak and needed to be replaced. I asked if it could be repaired and said no the whole unit need to be replaced and it was under 10 yr warranty and they had one in stock. However, the labor cost for replacing it would be $3000. Just a flat fee, no hourly rate or breakdown.
I thought the labor would be covered under Lifetime labor warranty I bought, but was told that the lifetime labor was no longer valid because I let the maintenance plan lapse for 1 year, even though I had just renewed it 3 weeks before.
At that point I wanted to see if I could get other quotes to compare the price, but it was unbearable inside so I told him to fix it. He went to get the coil at 11, came back at noon and was gone by 3:00 p.m.
I know that price is relative to markets and the system, but is $3000 reasonable to change out an evaporator coil?
The tech was quick and fixed it that same day but I still feel I was gouged on the price, mainly because i have nothing to compare.
I tried to call a manager at the company to ask about the coil failing in this high end system just after 3 years but nobody seems interested in calling me back. Tech said he didn't like Lennox products and personally would have bought a different system. I'm going to contact Lennox customer service and rant to them as well.

Now if there is an associated conspiracy that opens up a whole new can of worms … that would be huge. An organization with Opportunity, Means, and Motive to pull off something like the lie of evolution.

So I'm a prospective dog owner. I haven't owned a dog as an adult but I grew up with dogs and I still dog sit my parent's GSD sometimes. I've gotten to a point where I'm thinking of getting one for my own. I lived in a tiny apartment in a big city with no yard or place to play for years so I ruled it out, but now I live in a bigger place and have a field in the back, places to walk, and plenty of beg spaces just a short car ride away.
I'm still in the planning phase, I want to be sure I go into it with my eyes open, and am really in a position to give a doggo a good happy life.
I'm looking at breeds, I have a preference for bigger dogs 60lbs+ and I have a few other preferences regarding shedding and grooming. I also want a dog that is at least decently friendly with strangers. My question is about research, I have a few breeds that spark my interested Belgian Malinois, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, a few others. When I research these I find good stuff, but also some pretty huge inconsistency. One site will say a Greater Swiss doesn't drool hardly at all and calls it a "dry mouthed" dog, another will say they are moderate droolers. One site will say males get between 130 and 150lbs, another will say 85 to 120lbs. Some sites have different commentary about how breeds interact with people and how trainable they are.
What is the best way to find something reliable? It seems like a lot of the commentary is just coming from different experiences.

I own a business in a building, and am trying to figure out how to get AC to flow to the back rooms. I provided a diagram for context. Here are the supporting details:
-There are six AC vents in the ceiling (the Vs) and they work quite well.
-The problem is that a false wall (the blue wall) was put up by the last tenant. The blue false wall reaches all the way to the ceiling and it benefits my business, so knocking it down is not a solution. But it does cut off the AC vents' access to the rear rooms (the bottom-most parts of the drawing).
-The orange wall doesn't reach the ceiling. It is another false wall separating the back area into two rooms. The ceiling is 10 feet high and the orange wall reaches about 8 feet high.
-There are two doorless doorways that provide walkable paths between the front and back parts of the building. These doorways are about 7 feet high and then the false wall continues over them. They are also essentially the only pathway for cold or hot air to currently move between.
-In practice, during the summer, the back rooms are about 10 degrees hotter than the front room. Example, the AC is set to 70 and the large front area cools well at 70, but the back rooms are around 80 degrees.
-There are no windows in the building. This makes venting the heat out of the back difficult. The only ways I can see to vent heat out of the back would be to run it out the front door at the top of the drawing (not feasible) or run it up through the drop ceiling (I'd just be asking for mold formation).

If I got a portable AC and put it in the larger back room, would it actually cool down the rooms? Would the excess heat be pushed into the front of the building through the doorway where it would be cooled by the main effective AC? If not, are there any other sensible ways to cool this room without knocking out some part of the false wall? The only other thing I could see would be to move one of the bottom three vents a couple of tiles back where it pours down into the back room. I've been up in the attic and I can tell that it would take some doing, and I'm worried about what it would cost.

I just finished the fourth book and aim to read the fifth one before July to be ready to dive right in the latest one :-)
I really enjoy this series a lot!
Not just the fast paced action, I especially love the world building. It is noticeable how extensive it is, it is not just a dungeon with a random level for every book, there is much more to it. From early on we get glimpses about the politics behind the dungeon but that gets more prominent and more important by every book. It isn't just anymore about surviving, it is so much more. And there are so many players, the AI being one of them which is great!
I loved the idea and persecution of the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook. I am a sucker for history and this is even better.
But beside the game also shines with its humor and pop culture references. A lot of the descriptions are funny but also scenes and interactions. Though it is not all lighthearted fun and I really appreciate that. And not just how dark and manipulative the dungeon can be, but the backstory of Carl's story to which we get small glimpses is really interesting. I want to learn more about his family and how that formed him. It is very enticing.
The crazyness of it all has to be mentioned too. The different scenarios and ideas for every floor, for all the quests and the twists, the classes, the items, the skills, the names, the descriptions,... There are so many things and it is all so much over the top, but in the best way.
I like the writing style a lot where you are following one character but you are not privy to 100% of their thoughts, so you know they plan something but you don't know what... it keeps the tension high :-)
My questions:

• What is the set of predetermined conditions for the cookbook to appear? I would love to know if it exists at all. Probably just a throw away line when the book got introduced but it really piqued my interest.
  
• How did you come up with all the crazy stuff, Matt?
  
• And how much of the dungeon and the world have you designed before writing the first book? I am sure some things change often enough of course to fit better the story you are writing at the moment.

Hi! I just went to get a bunch of clothes tailored because as part of my “what type am I” journey, I am just sick of things not fitting me appropriately. If you are in a similar boat, it was super helpful to go get clothes fitted and hear objectives things about my body. For ex, she told me yes it seemed I was in between sizes (I sized up to get tailored down bc otherwise legs wouldn’t even fit in the pants). She said I had a small waist and had to accommodate for my hips (in a very objective way— not good nor bad). Hearing how she saw my body to help her with how to alter it to fit my body type reminded me of the purpose of typing and the desire behind it for all of us to just have the right fits to flatter our bodies in all their shapes and sizes. Reminder—clothes are meant to fit us, not the other way around. Highly recommend, if you’re able, to take your beloved but not quite right clothing to get tailored.
