2023.06.07 18:29 ImDefinitelyATrash Got drunk while playing the Disney Channel Games or something (probably not it)
((Alcohol tw if that’s anything, long and messy my apologies 😔))
.
Okay so I don’t remember much of it from what I do remember: there are four like groups I guess, I was in red group, there was one called star group I think (colors were blue yellow red and green). I don’t remember what the groups did I think we just played a bunch of games inside? There was like this cafeteria and the. Next to it with three entrances was this safe room I guess ? We entered it for a game. And it had like pool and couches and TVs and shit. It was entirely white but the safe room had like this purple lighting. First game I remember was one where we just ran around and the group to get all their members in the safe room first won, I kinda cheated because I camped next to the door to the safe room and just ran inside when the game started. It had like these small tunnels and halls, Kinda like the inside of a slide or whimsical hallway. The whole building was like that actually it was just square rooms and then slide tunnels and whimsical halls, but this room especially had them. All the group bedrooms were just like down a hall I think ? I don’t know I just kinda teleported into one, but the second game I remember was basically just hide and seek and some kid said I couldn’t go in the safe room. I think there was also a bathroom in there but I could be misremembering. In the safe room I think there was like this blanket stuffed animal thing that I chopped the tail off of because I wanted it or something. It was supposed to be like our last day there or something. I ended up following some kid (like I mean probably not even in their double digits) on the star group to give them their stuffed animal’s tail back and they just said thanks and I just kept following them, they were giving me a piggy back ride for some reason, I asked them if I could sleep in their group bedroom that night and they just brought me there. It was like a small white room with half the floor being elevated by a two step staircase I think, all the lights were off tho so I couldn’t tell, but I couldn’t sleep so I asked the kid about it and they pulled out a bottle of alcohol I guess the label didn’t say it was alcohol it said it was something water I don’t remember what the first word was so I drank it and literally nothing happened so I just went back to the safe room instead of my group’s bedroom for some reason and just continued drinking there until I fell asleep.
Basically the same stuff as last time (TW for fire, perversion ? and animal death)
These haven’t happened lately but I know I still think about them from time to time so maybe they could still affect my dreams idk
I’m a white autistic transmasc (non binary) AroAce (though I’ve begun questioning the ace part) as well as some other queer gender stuff (xenos, neos, you get the picture) minor with both ISTP and 6w5 personality types. Some stuff that’s generally happened to me “recently” was that my house burnt down, which caused the disappearance and dead assumption of one of my cats, this one’s more sensitive but you read the warnings: I ended up finding out my step brother was watching me through a crack in my door (and as I described it in the TWs it was for that reason). I also recently started going to church, I’m not the biggest fan of it, think it’s kinda boring, but my mom says I’m a good sport about it. I recently got a new online friendgroup and I’ve been growing ever more impatient with things I like because they haven’t been updated in literal years. I think that’s all ? I have no preferred method for this so just go wild. I’m sorry this is kinda messy I don’t remember much and just placed stuff down as I remembered them. Oki! Bye bye! Mwah ♥️

2023.06.07 18:14 TheRealElDiablo 2012 JKU - Interior Noise and Bluetooth Phone Calls
I have a 2012 JKU Sahara. Has the uconnect touch screen. I have been trying to make this thing usable so I can make calls over blue tooth while driving. I have installed a hot heads headliner (with sound deadening strips). I have insulated the floors with Kilmat sound deadening and even some foam in the front (haven't finished the entire floor yet). I replaced the door seals and the header seal. And I replaced the foam and rubber pieces around the Hardtop.
Still not able to make calls while driving in the ~60+ mph range. People on the other end, just cant hear me.
I am now considering changing the stereo unit. I have specifically been looking at the Kenwood Excelon DMX709S. It shows to have some sort of noise canceling setting on the microphone. I'm sure other units have that too.
Has anyone had experience with this? Any other things to try? I know its a loud jeep and it won't be perfect, but I just want to get it to a functional state.

Memory transcript: Vekna, Venlil Citizen. Date: [Standardized human time] September 22nd, 2136 The light of a new Paw floods in through my window. I groan and try to pull the bedding sheets over my eyes, but the deed is done. My mind starts to churn as I groggily get out of bed to start the paw.
Another paw where we wouldn’t be going after our guy, I presume. After our run in with Unzekep, Sharnet had gone quiet for the most part. I tried to talk with her after leaving the power plant floor, but she had completely clammed up. After arriving back at the hotel, things had gotten even worse. She locked herself in her room and refused to come out for anything. Food, beverage, nada. She wasn’t even answering my calls!
I wince as a bad step sends dull throbs of pain through my skull.
Maybe this has something to do with it. When I tried to pull Sharnet back from the ledge, she had hit me in the eye. It’s still swollen to a degree, but usually bearable. It was my fault, anyways, I probably just startled her while she was focused.
I’ve taken worse before, I’ll live. If only I could tell her that. As I perform my daily grooming, I think back to Tagelb. He said that the other Harchen he was suspicious of was Yrtima, and she was next in our list. We don’t have much on her, but the roster of suspects is rapidly dwindling. One way or another, we’ll find our guy when we investigate her.
If we investigate her. As I finish brushing my fur, I resolve to actually get into Sharnet’s room. Sighing, I look at my reflection in the mirror.
Same as I’ve always been, same as I’ll always be. The brown eye was a new touch, but it just served to show a portion of how ugly I am on the inside to the rest of the world.
Monsters can’t hide forever, after all. I exit my room and start making my way down to the lobby. A part of me debates telling Sharnet everything. It’s technically all available if you know where to look, so why not get it over with now? The pain will be far less than if she finds out later on, when I’ve grown properly attached as a friend.
Hah, why do I still want friends? They all abandon me at the first chance after learning about my true nature. Why would Sharnet be any different? I’m nothing more than a liability, not truly prey, but not truly predator.
I’ve had to fight for what little I have…and maybe that’s why I can’t tell her. I don’t want to lose what meager things I’ve managed to accomplish here. What few connections I’ve made.
Sharnet, Tagelb, even Unzekep. Only one would understand, but unlike Unzekep, I wasn’t a mistake. I don’t get scared as easily, I miss social cues, I can’t bear loud spaces, I need something to rub, sometimes I even…I even think about hurting people I don’t like. People who don’t deserve it.
No, I wasn’t a mistake like her, and she’d recognize me for the threat that I am if I ever told her. So long as I can keep quiet, nobody should know. Nobody will know. But how can I get Sharnet to come out? How can I approach her without looking suspicious? If she suspected, would she also try to-
No. I shouldn’t think that. I shouldn’t think that about her, even if it’s probably true. I look at the small meal bar the lobby had set up. Recluse or not, Sharnet still needs to eat. That would be something normal people would do. She should be hungry, so someone would try to make them eat. That’s what I’ll do.
The variety of the selection hadn’t changed much over the time we had been here. Thankfully, today they have some grain bars in stock, perfect for transportation. I grab a pawful of them along with a JuiceFruit, flicking my ears at the receptionist as I pass.
I still don’t get why we have to do that. I enter back into the elevator and make my way to Sharnet’s room on the 6th floor. I recall the last time I was here, back right before Uylten. It had been a complete mess.
I don’t imagine it’s gotten any better since. Usually when people lock themselves in their rooms, they aren’t doing so for a deep-clean. My thoughts are interrupted as I come up upon Sharnet’s door. Silence. Besides the faint sound of breathing behind the door, her room is silent to my ears. I hesitate for a moment, my paw hovering above the door.
What if I did something wrong when we were talking to Unzekep. Would she even want to see me right now? Maybe she was on her cycle? No, I need to know what’s going on. About her journal, about what happened three paws ago, about everything. There’s too much going on here. More than that, what if she needs me? I have to be there for her. I rap my paw against the door thrice and wait, ears perked and listening.
Nothing. I knock a couple more times.
Still nothing. Fine, I guess I’ll talk. “Sharnet? Are you in there?” I stand in wait for a few seconds more.
Still nothing. I sigh exasperatedly, twisting my tail in impatience.
Alright, you force my paw. “I have food, if you want some.”
Another few seconds pass, with still nothing. As I start to leave, though, I hear shuffling coming from inside. After a moment, I hear Sharnet’s muffled voice coming from inside. “Why are you here?”
Even to my ears, her voice sounds weak and despairing. I may not always understand people’s social cues, but this is a neon sign blazing on the night side.
Something’s wrong. I hurry back to the door, making sure to direct my voice inwards. “You’ve been in there for paws, and I haven’t seen you eat anything. I brought up some grain bars and a juicefruit for you. Can I come in?”
Silence passes between me and the door.
Nothing. Please, do something. Some reaction at all. Another shuffle sounds from inside. “Why do you care?”
I can’t help but be gobsmacked by that statement.
Why do I care? You saved my life! You had my back when no-one else did! Why wouldn’t I care?! “I…why wouldn’t I? Can I please come in? I’m…worried.”
OH FOR HERD’S SAKE, WHY CAN’T I SPEAK?! “Why? I would… hurt you again…”
I pause at that. My eye still throbbed, it’s swelling still noticeable.
Was… was that what she was worried about? But that was an accident! She was just trying to get me off, that’s completely understandable! I flicker my ears in concern and press a paw against the door. “I’m fine, Sharnet. Just… Please let me in. Please.”
More silence. I can hear only her breathing from behind the door.
Okay, I tried the calm way, maybe I try… her way. “L-look. I am not leaving. You have… you have spent too long in there with… with nothing to eat! So… so either you open this door, or I’ll open it myself!”
I wasn’t sure if I would follow through. I hope my tone is able to carry the bluff.
If I have to, maybe I could kick the lock. That might loosen it. Then I could- The door clicks. The sign above the handle turns to show it’s unlocked. I need to act now, before she changes her mind. “Okay, I’m coming in!”
Using my foot, I slide the door open, now getting a look at the-
Herd have Mercy, The SCENT!! When she disappeared to her room a few paws ago, I made sure that she brought along some fruits so she would eat. They have not been touched.
And it shows, or rather, smells. Our natural sense of smell is rather specialized for plants, to the exclusion of almost all else, so the stench of the decaying fruit lingers in the air like a rotten fog, setting on my tongue like a disgusting blanket of speh.
The room is dimmed by the blackout curtains, but even so, it looks horrible. Like someone had come in and attempted to stage a predator attack without the blood. The bed frame is out of place, shoved to the side with the mattress and blankets just piled on the wall. Small bits of paper lay scattered around the room, one of which I recognize as having the rough sketch of one of the overseers. Following the mess, I eventually come to find the fateful journal lying with some of its pages torn out.
But most worrisome of all isn’t the room, but Sharnet herself. She hasn’t groomed even once since our parting. Her fur is tangled and matted, with the general filth gained from our short wandering in the humid tunnels left unchecked in her tangles. She sits with her back against the opposite wall, looking more fearful than I have ever seen her before.
Was she scared…of me? No, nonono. Please, don’t tell me she’s figured it out. Please, not now, not now! “How?”
Her voice rings through the silence, echoing off the walls ever so gently like a drum in the night. “How… what?”
“How can you stand to be so close to me?”
…
Ok, now I’m just confused. “I…huh? Sharnet, what’s going on? Why is your room a mess, why are
you a mess? And why are you huddled in the corner like an Arxur is behind me??” A part of me still thinks she’s figured out the truth, but now I’m not so sure.
This isn’t right, none of this is. I start to approach her, but that doesn’t last long.
“Stop!” She shouts at me, causing me to jump back in surprise. I hear her whimper. “I don’t want to hurt you. Like I hurt everyone.”
My paw goes up to my eye involuntarily. It’s still sore to the touch, but that doesn’t matter now. I have a feeling this is about what happened with the spehlicker we threatened, so I set the fresh food down on the counter and slowly start to approach her once again. “Sharnet, that was for a good cause! She threw a wrench at Unzekep, threatening her was completely unders-”
Sharnet’s face contorts as she yells at me. “I was going to
Murder Her!!!”
I freeze at her words.
Murder her? She’s crying now, coughing phlegm and flowing tears as she wails. “I was- I was going to drop her! I wanted to- to see her die! T-to die!!”
I’m…unsure of how to react to that. I remain frozen as I process.
She…she wanted to see vengeance, too? But…I thought…I thought only people with PD had that. Wait…that can only mean one thing… That Must Be Normal. I can’t help but chuckle at that, my tail starting to sway behind me as I do.
Even a monster has something in common with everyone else. I sigh, kneeling down a few [meters] away.
For once, I finally know what to say. “You too?”
I suddenly found myself facing down a glare. “You didn’t want their death. Not like me.”
Monsters aren’t intimidated so easily. I match her gaze and cock my head. “Says who? We both saw her chuck that wrench at Unzekep, I certainly wouldn’t mourn her death. But that isn’t what we’re here to do, is it?” I stand just enough to match her eye level, taking a step towards her. “What are we here to do, Sharnet?”
“To keep people safe from monsters,” she replies, “monsters like me…”
I finally close the distance between us and clamp my paws down on Sharnet’s shoulders, locking the both of us in place. “No, like the chief engineer, like the foreman, like …like…”
Like me. “Like the overseers. Not you.
Never you. They hurt people who did nothing to deserve it.”
“But I have, too!” The absolute rage in her voice made me release my grip. “He’s probably dead because of me! And he- he did Nothing! And I tried to kill him!!” She panted heavily, trying to find her words.
Dead because of her? Tried to kill him? Wait…no, no she couldn’t have… “Y-you… killed someone?”
“I was- I was in the program. The Exchange p-program. My p-partner… he did nothing and I- I tried to kill him…” she let out a sob as I try to grapple with her words. “The raid… it happened before I could find him again… he would have survived if it hadn’t been for me… if I hadn’t stabbed him…”
My grip wavers slightly. “You…you stabbed him? Why?” In my mind, I know why. Because they’re predators. That’s why. Predators are inherently dangerous, they must have done something threatening.
“He was being nice. He was telling a story. And I tried to kill him for it.”
That can’t be it. There must be more! “But…what was the story? It- Predator stories must be full of violence! You can’t be blamed for reacting appropriately to it! Was he talking about hurting an animal? How many he killed in a war?”
“It was noble!” Her tail lashes with rage, “it was good! They would do whatever they could to defend something! Defending! That- that they would kill themselves if it meant protecting someone they cared about!” She coughs to clear her throat. “They let themselves die to defend our station from the Grays. I tried to kill him for saying they did so in the past.”
I think about what she’s saying. It’s a known fact that the humans sacrificed themselves during the raid so the station could survive, but to think that her partner died before she could make up…
Herd, that’s awful. My steadily loosening grip refirms as I bring her head up. “You made a mistake, then. I don’t know what he said to you, but I know you wouldn’t do something like that without a reason. I’m sorry you didn’t get to make up with him, but I’m sure if he were here now, he’d forgive you.” I rub at my swollen eye. “Like I did. You had a reason to push me away, and I don’t blame you for it.
She shakes her ears in the negative. “I didn’t have a reason to kill him. I didn’t have a reason to hit you. I was going to kill her… and I wasn’t wanting you to stop me.” She gazes at me sadly. “I wish I was a good person like you.”
A good person like me. I lower my head as I start to chuckle.
A good person…like me? Like the diseased monster?! I start cackling hysterically at the sick humor of all of this.
A good person like me! I’m doing a better job of masking than I ever thought possible! After a [couple minutes] of breathless, whistling cackling, I start to come back down. The corners of my eyes are wet, from sadness or happiness I can’t possibly tell.
“A gh-hood person like me-hehe! Sharnet, Sharnet no. No, you shouldn’t compare yourself to me. Everyone makes mistakes, you’re no less of a person for it! What matters is that you move past it. My dad always told me that growing up, and it’s good advice to live by. You want to move past what you did? Then do something!
Anything! It’s better than holing up in your room like…like this!” I gesture around the room, my movements stirring the rotten stench in the air I had almost tuned out.
“Your father sounds like a good man.” She sighs.
I’m reminded of his room in the hospital. All the blinking lights, the beep of the heart monitor. His lovely eyes hidden forevermore. A tear rolls down my cheek, the source of which I’m certain of this time. “Yes…he is…”
“I wish mine was…” she curls her tail around her legs. “He…he was always taking something. He would go clean, but then change what he was hooked on. He would say he would change, but all that ended up changing was what he took. Then… then had us take them too.”
Oh…I didn’t even realize…wait. “What… what did he make you take?”
She just looked down to the ground, her eyes crying despite their ducts running dry. “He took pheromones… put it in our food.”
Pheromones. That… oh no. “Sharnet, I…I had no idea. How long did he…?”
“A season… mom didn’t realize. She thought… she thought that they were finally getting along again…” I see a shudder go down her spine, “Everything felt wrong after meals. Too loud. Too quiet. I would stare at a wall for a claw. Run until my legs couldn’t take it anymore. I felt angry. Or scared. Or happy. Or sad. My… body… they said I was just early. They didn’t know. Nobody did. Nobody listened to me, until…”
I’m transfixed to her horrible story, leaning forward as I anticipate her response. “Until what?”
“I… saw dad taint the food. But that was his last dose. So I snuck in dad’s car trunk. He drove to meet a man. I filmed him… through a crack.” A moment of silence passes between us as the words sink in. “Mom didn’t even take anything when we ran that paw.”
I never knew my mother, but dad spoke fondly of her.
To save their child… “Your mother seems to care a lot about you to have acted so fast in the face of evidence. It must have been painful for her to learn her mate was drugging you both.”
“She was so sorry. Said that if I hadn’t done that, she might’ve kept lying to herself.” She takes a heaving breath as she attempts to calm herself, her fur lowering despite me not having moved back. “When I went into journalism, she praised me. Said I always searched for the truth and urged me to continue.”
“So you were able to escape the situation and get better.” I start wagging my tail positively to help assure her. “You got out in time, and you no longer had to face those problems.”
Her sad sigh hit me in the chest like a Mazic. “Please, don’t be afraid when I say this…The problems didn’t stop. I was… when I got angry I would lash out. When I focused on something, everything else disappeared. When I… when I do something I
can’t stop. And if I try, it feels wrong. Like my mind hurts. The articles, my journals,my job… it just lets those happen.”
Don’t be afraid? Lashing out? Everything disappearing when focused on something? That… that sounds… I finally understand. I understand why she hid from me. Why she felt so ashamed and scared. Why she acted the way she did with Unzekep and Tagleb.
She was diseased and thought I wasn’t. Sharnet shakes her ears, an act to focus herself. “I thought I had it under control. That I could just keep focusing on stuff that wasn’t fully known. That I could help people. But I just hurt them. On the station. In the tunnels. I hurt you twice. I acted without consulting you with Tagleb, then hit you when you tried to stop me from killing somebody. I just…” her eyes meet mine. “I wish I could be like you.”
I look her up and down, debating what to do. Am I really so good at masking that I come off as normal? That would mean that she has no idea about who I really am,
what I really am. And she looks up to me to boot…no, she wasn’t born a monster, she was made one. She still has a chance to change, to redeem herself. I’ll forever be who I was born as, and no matter what any head official says, there’s no way out for me.
But maybe I could be hers. My brain, previous split in my actions going forward, unifies on a single goal: be the person Sharnet believes you to be. Even if I couldn’t be saved, perhaps if I keep acting as she believes, she can overcome her own struggles. If I came out to her, I’d only be performing a selfish act. She’d realize what I am, and diseased or not, she wouldn’t be wrong in pushing me away. The joy of the realization that we’re one in the same is quashed under the assurance that nothing will change, nothing
can change.
For Sharnet’s good. I hug her to me, and pat her back. “Then the first thing you have to do is believe that you can be. I know you can do it. And… maybe wash up. Your fur is all tangled.” I snicker at my own joke, squeezing her before letting go and taking a step back. “We came here to find monsters, and no matter your past, you’re not one of them.” I offer my paw to her to help her up. “You’re…no,
we’re here to stop them, so let’s get back to doing that. Together.” I raise my ears and wag my tail in a hopeful smile.
She looks between my paw and my eyes, her own starting to moisten once again. After a brief moment of hesitation, she takes my offer. I feel her paw grip around mine as I pull her to her feet. She chooses to move forward, to complete our task, to overcome her past.
And I couldn’t be happier. I will uphold who Sharnet believes me to be, no matter what. For her sake…and for mine. [First]-

2023.06.07 17:23 Apprehensive-Award-3 A challenging/cry for help
| Hiya hometheater peeps need your help. I've been saddled with the responsibility of setting up my parents home theater sound system and I'm in dire need of your recommendations. Got a couple of challenges for you: Mom's budget is maxed at $1k. Yeah, I know, not a lot to work with but we gotta make do. Mom's also not too keen on having anything in front of the closet on the left side of the screen. However, she's somewhat okay with a speaker on the floor, as long as it's under 22 inches so it doesn't block the video. What I thought was A. Floorspeaker I mean a bookshelf on a floor somehow aimed up and a center sub and 2 sides or just forced her for a big soundbar that covers half the door. I would really love to have a surround sound setup if it fits within the budget, but overall good sound quality is the priority here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. submitted by Apprehensive-Award-3 to hometheater [link] [comments] |

2023.06.07 17:10 endersgame69 Kayobi's Days Off C16
Jin returned with red eyes and a red face that was contradicted by a smile, it wasn’t a strong one, but it was there. “Thank you, Kayobi.” He said with that weak little smile growing a little bit stronger.
“Don’t sweat it, just pick up my cookies when I need it, maybe help clean my place when it gets to be a little too much, we call it even, yeah?” I asked with a smirk. “You know how I hate chores.” I opened my mouth and stuck my pointer finger into the gaping face hole, then made a quick gagging noise.
He blinked a few times, “Yeah, yeah, no problem, no problem. I’ll handle the close up, you can go ahead and go home.”
“Great, but how is she?” I asked as I grabbed my purse and a handful of purchases that I’d made over the course of the day.
“I think you probably can guess.” He answered, then jerked his thumb over his shoulder, “Just get going, I’d rather not talk about it. I’d be happier if you just let me work for a while.” Jin gave me an urgent nod, and I shrugged in response.
“Alright, and hey, chin up, my boy. These things have a way of working themselves out.” I promised, and made my way out of the store to the sound of his quiet…
“Yeah, right…” Being repeated several times.
It was evening out, not dark-dark, but dark enough.
But there’s no amount of dark that can outdo a swapper’s sense for the evil eye, that sort of ‘instinct’ that tells you when you’re being watched.
I made a show of stretching and followed my instincts, and much to my total lack of surprise, there was a car up the street that was way too nice for the neighborhood. Sleak, black, dark tinted windows. ‘They really are efficient.’ I thought to myself and chose to linger outside my door and lean over the rail, just watching the sky grow darker. ‘They’ll probably figure out it had something to do with that store. I probably should have gotten rid of them after all…’
I shook my head at the thought, that was a last resort, I could leave that place alone, at least… probably. I doubted the old man was responsible, I felt the fear in his throat, the way it pulsed and saw the sweat beading on his bald head with enough quantity to make it shine like a polished cueball.
‘He would have reported to his boss, however. And it’s only natural they’d want to investigate. But then, they didn’t come by, they’re just watching for now.’ I thought about what that might mean. They weren’t totally stupid, at least.
Smart people are easier to work with than stupid people, they have a greater eye toward their own self interest. As I watched them out of the corner of my eye, careful to ensure none of them left the car to come and bother Jin, I contemplated my options.
“I really don’t want to work on my vacation, damn it!” I muttered and furrowed my brow.
They were still watching me. I could feel it.
That was a relief, the cool air caressed my skin, and it felt almost blissful.
I hadn’t meant to get so involved, I’ve spent years just trading little favors for doing my damn errands… ‘Now look at you… great job, Kayobi, great… great… job.’
This is probably the most troublesome part of being a swapper, we mimic other species so well that we take on their emotional capabilities and many of their mental faculties, and humans' sense of community is stronger than that of my species.
So what else was there for it but to go along with what had already happened?
When I watched Jin make his way to his apartment, I waved a warm “Goodnight.” to him, which he barely acknowledged, and then I went into my home.
But, I didn’t close the door, not all the way.
Instead… I swapped. My body shrank, grew fur, tiny ears, cute little paws, and when I opened my mouth, a squeak came out.
I raced out the crack in my door and down the steps, then went on a roundabout journey toward their car. There was no reason for them to be suspicious of a mouse, but even so, why tempt fate, right?
I scurried underneath their car and I went straight for the tire. I gave a quick bite after hardening my teeth enough, and the puncture was clean. I repeated the act three more times in quick succession. Each time I was rewarded by a tiny ‘hiss’ noise in the dark.
Up above, I could hear them talking. “They said no. Just observe. See if there’s anything strange, then go. We keep her under surveillance, that’s all.”
“Asking questions is faster.” His colleague in the passenger seat responded.
“Lots of things are fast, they’re not always good. We can take her any other night as good as now, if there’s nothing strange. And if there is, we were smart to be cautious.” The driver said, and I wiggled my ears.
With that kind of work ethic… ‘He might have been a decent swapper. Oh well.’ I thought, and bit through their break lines. I didn’t envy them sitting there the whole time… and I really didn’t like the idea of them lingering around my neighborhood.
So as soon as I was done, I scurried away out of view, off to a direction they weren’t watching, then I swapped again. This time into the form of a young human male, old enough to be out late, but not much else, and I started walking up the length of the sidewalk.
I paused when I got to their car, then stopped to stare.
They noticed me pretty quick, and the window on the passenger side came down. “Go home.” The meathead in the seat said.
I pretended to be startled, scared, and moved my mouth a few times before I could say anything.
“S-Sorry.” I said, “I ah, I was just going to t-tell you guys…” I swallowed the lump in my throat as if I were fearful of what they were.
“What?” The passenger asked.
“Your tires, they’re flat.” I said, “S-Sorry to bother you, I’ll go home!” I swore, and ran off into the darkness until I was well out of sight and I could turn and watch them.
The pair got out of the car and a string of swear words came out of their mouths a few moments later.
“This one’s popped, and so is this one… what about that side?” The driver asked.
“Both are out… we must have hit something…” The passenger concluded.
The swearing renewed, and when I’d snuck back into my apartment, I ‘swapped’ back into my usual form.
I chuckled while I listened to them cursing up a storm, they maybe had one spare, but not four. I didn’t want them to call a tow, though. So I stepped back outside with my own phone. [E’grahcrevo] I cast the spell in their direction, frying their electronics. Their cellphones were as good as bricked.
More cursing for them. More mirth for me.
As it was getting late in Shinjai, there was a logical, obvious choice after concluding I’d gone to bed. Drive away as far as they could, borrow a phone, and call for a ride home, leaving the car to be towed in the morning.
But, them being Yakuza, they would almost certainly report to whoever sent them out, which meant going to that building.
I dialed the connection number to our satellite and waited while the call was routed to Celia. I was rewarded by her face in its natural state. “Celia, hey, how are you?” I asked with a very human grin.
“Fine… just… you know.” She mumbled.
“Oh, well I can improve that a bit. How about you come hang out here with me for a few days.” I suggested.
“Wait, really?!” She asked, so stunned that she leaned back from her device.
“Yeah, well, listen it won’t be all day every day, I’m doing a favor for someone, but we’ll have all evening, and you can binge watch all the stuff I’ve been enjoying, you know, catch up with me some!” I gave her a wide, encouraging grin, “And there’ll be plenty of snacks, just convert some of your credits to gold and, well you know how I do it, but you can pick up whatever you want to eat, from the store I’m helping out at. Then we can relax after I get back.” I promised.
She shivered a little, and I knew excitement in my species when I saw it.
“I do need you to pick up one thing for me on your way here though, just a small errand, nothing big, and I’ll pay for it, of course. Just grab me one of the Q-42 xenocrystalization vials, would you?” I asked.
She blinked her eyes at me. “Are you just trying to get me to do one of your chores for you?” She asked.
I held up my thumb and forefinger to the screen and made the space between the two very tiny. “Just a little bit, I promise. But I really do want to hang out with you, I just can’t take the time to come all the way out there and fill out those damn requisition forms.
“Fine, I’ll fill out a form for you and pick it up, but you’d better pay me back as soon as I get there.” Celia insisted, “I’ll be there in a few days. Just don’t get into any mischief while I’m gone, alright?” She asked.
I couldn’t blame her for the question, after all, the X-42 vial had an extremely flexible fluid inside of it, and the sale of those was strictly limited.
“Celia,” I said with my face deadpan, “when have I ever gotten into shenanigans or mischief of any kind?”
She only looked blankly at me from her screen, tens of thousands of solar systems distant from myself, and…
I gave in.
“I withdraw the question.” I mumbled, “But under protest that the mischief and shenanigans were both worth it one hundred percent of the time.”
“Objection noted.” She responded, and hung up.
I laughed, then poked my head out of the door in time to watch the car start to roll away on three bad tires, after they’d evidently used the spare on the front right tire. It wouldn’t do much good, but I suppose it was better than nothing.
“Alright. Time for some more shenanigans.” I laughed to myself and after stepping out of view again, I swapped into the body of a bird and began to follow after them.

2023.06.07 17:08 NoRelative7166 Opening a relashionship 6 years into it
Hello! I'm a female writing to you in all humility as I'm looking for a gentle way to start a discussion with my boyfriend in the hopes of opening up our relationship someday, if only a little. I've been in a straight relationship with my partner for 6 years now. Our relationship is healthy, secure and fills me with gratitude every day. We communicate this love to each other several times a day and are excited to move forward through the big steps of life together. The only part of our lives where we don't see eye-to-eye on is my interest in kinky sex (submission, domination, sex with multiple partners, etc.) and non-monogamy. I've always put the love connection first when looking for a partner. When we met 6 years ago, I wasn't as aware of my fantasies and needs as I am today. For the first three years of our relationship, I only made room for these fantasies when I was "taking care of myself," as my lover expressed his discomfort with non-vanilla sex. Very awkwardly, I have tried to initiate a discussion about the possibility of satisfying these needs with other partners. This didn't go well and brought up an overall feeling of pain for my partner about ''not being enough for me'' and worry about this request potentially damaging our relationship. He had consented to let me ''sext'' over the phone but quickly grew into disliking this - and so did I. So we shut that door and spent the three subsequent years being present and caring to eachother. It's easy to love this human and I felt guilty about troubling his peace when he is so loving and caring to me. I was able to do shut the kinky switch off without any resent towards my partner. I notice that pushing my fantasies aside makes me overall less sexual. But for the past few weeks, all of the kinky shit has found its way back in my head again, as if I can't realistically suppress it all the time ... I feel so curious and excited as i'm discovering that I am not alone in liking what I like. It makes me feel sad that I may never experience this aspect of myself in real life. I feel grief even, as crazy as this might sound! So I recently made some cute kinky dirty propositions to my boo such as having a threesome with another girl, getting a female pro-dom to mess with us a little bit or even just having me watch him have sex with another girl. I was thinking these ideas might be a great way to spice things up for the both of us even if a male partner would not be on the menu for me. I would looove the ''humiliation'' of watching my man do exactly what he won't allow me to do!! But yeah, my boyfriend has manifested that he does not want to try any of these things and does not want to see girls on his own either - which is absolutly fine. However, he said that he understands a bit more of what it means to me, that he love me regardless of my kinky brain and that he would try to think of something I could do that he would be ok with ... So currently I am juste letting him the space he needs to sit with his toughts as it's only been two weeks since we talked about this. But, given that we had real talks like this only twice in 6 years, I guess I'm afraid that this next conversation will never actually happen. I believe it is important to not put pressure on this as I would certainly not feel good myselft if my lover was pressing me about being sexual with other people. I wonder what are some reasonable steps I can take from here? Should I let a few weeks slide, or even a few months and then bring it up when the vibe is right ? I want to read ''the ethical slut'' in the meantime to have a little more informed conversation with my boyfriend if he does initiates that conversation. But we live together and I have a feeling it would be more respectfull to not read this book in front of him as it would be a reminder that he needs to be thinking about it (or am I being weird about this book thing?). I understand that EMC and kinky sex is not everybody's cup of tea and I would wholeheartedly choose my partner over and over again even if he doesn't want to open up the relationship. I don't want to cheat either, otherwise I would not put the effort into having these honest conversations and growing as a couple. I'm just hopeful that he will indeed come back to me with something - anything at this point - that he would be willing to let me try. Any advice about how to respectfully take things from here would be great. Thank you so much!

2023.06.07 17:03 surfskiman 2019 RTL one-touch unlock all doors?
I just joined the Ridgeline club with a 2019 RTL! Fantastic truck! I would like to unlock all my doors when I place my hand behind the drivers door rather than just unlocking the driver’s door. I understand this can be done from the passenger side but would also like it on the driver side. I do not have a touch screen radio. I am following the flow from the manual but I cannot seem to get it to work? Has anyone had any luck with this? The flow as I interpret it is open door - hit start button twice to go to on without foot on brake - apply parking brake and shift to N - press and hold unlock and it should click twice - this is where I am coming up short. I cannot get the click twice no matter how long I hold unlock. Any suggestions?

Smithing
- Smithing Tables have been redesigned into a workstation for physical equipment upgrades and modifications
- Alongside slots for combining a piece of equipment and materials, there is now a required slot for an item type called Smithing Template
- Smithing Templates define what type of upgrade you will be making to a piece of equipment
- It specifies both what type of items you can upgrade, and which ingredients are valid to customize the upgrade
- There are currently two categories of Smithing Templates: Armor Trim and Netherite Upgrade
- Smithing Templates are consumed when used to upgrade an item in the Smithing Table
- You can craft a copy of a Smithing Template in the Crafting Table with 7 diamonds + 1 block of material that the template is made out of + 1 smithing template, which will output 2 of the same Smithing Template
Netherite Equipment
- Netherite equipment crafting now also requires a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
- Netherite Upgrade Smithing Templates can be found randomly in all Bastion Remnant chests
- Every Treasure Room Bastion Remnant will contain 2 Smithing Templates
- This change was made for a variety of reasons:
- Increase the time players utilize Diamond equipment before Netherite
- Make Netherite equipment more significant achievement in the game's progression
- Adapt Netherite more naturally into the new Smithing Table crafting system
Armor Trims
- You can now visually customize your armor with a variety of unique trims at the Smithing Table
- Armor trims are purely visual with no gameplay benefits
- Armor trims can be applied to Helmets, Chestplates, Leggings and Boots
- All trim patterns are visually the same on an armor's item icon, but the color will still change based on the trim material
- To check which trim pattern a piece of armor has, you can hover over it in the inventory
- Armor Trim Smithing Templates can be found all throughout the world, and each of the following structures contain their own unique Smithing Templates:
- Trail Ruins: Wayfinder, Raiser, Shaper, and Host Armor Trims
- Pillager Outpost: Sentry Armor Trim
- Desert Pyramid: Dune Armor Trim
- Shipwreck: Coast Armor Trim

- Smithing Templates are found in chests in their respective structure
- Trail Ruins have no chests, Smithing Templates are instead found by brushing Suspicious Gravel
- The Ocean Monument has no chests, Elder Guardians sometimes instead drop a Smithing Template upon death
- Some Armor Trim Smithing Templates are rarer than others, so be on the lookout for them to impress your friends!
- An armor trim has two properties: a pattern and a material
- The pattern is defined by the Smithing Template used to apply the trim, and represents the visual pattern of the trim
- The material is defined by which ingredient you used to apply the trim, and controls the color of the trim
- The viable ingredients you can use to define the color of your armor trim are the following:
- Iron, Copper, Gold, Lapis, Emerald, Diamond, Netherite, Redstone, Amethyst, Quartz
Cherry Groves
- Added a new Cherry Grove biome, with pretty cherry blossom trees
- The biome can be found in the mountains, in similar places as Meadows

- Sculk Sensors and Calibrated Sculk Sensors have three phases: Inactive, Active and Cooldown
- The default phase is Inactive
- This phase lasts indefinitely until the block receives a vibration
- During this phase, the block is able to listen to nearby vibrations until one has been scheduled
- When a scheduled vibration is received, the block switches to the Active phase
- This phase lasts 30 game ticks for Sculk Sensors, and 10 game ticks for Calibrated Sculk Sensors
- During this phase, the block stops listening to nearby vibrations, wiggles its tendrils and emits a redstone signal and light
- After the Active phase has finished, the block switches to a Cooldown phase
- This phase lasts for 10 game ticks
- During this phase, the block keeps wiggling its tendrils, but no longer emits a redstone signal nor light
- Finally, once this phase is finished, the block will switch back to the Inactive phase
- Previously, some of these phases had different timing values:
- Active: 40 game ticks for Sculk Sensors and 20 game ticks for Calibrated Sculk Sensors
- Cooldown: 1 game tick for both types of Sculk Sensors
- These phase timings were tweaked so that it is less common for activated contraptions to recursively activate the Sculk Sensor that powered them

Display Entity
Interpolation Changes
- Previous values are always discarded if interpolation_duration is 0
- Made sure that render properties are applied at the same time (so block_state is applied at the same time as transformation, i.e. at the next tick after receiving an update)
- Display entities are not rendered until their initial data is received. That means display entities might not be shown on the first tick.
- Note: due to how the game handles updates, changes to entities made after summoning might be delivered to clients within a later tick
Rendering Changes
- item_display items have been rotated 180 degrees around the Y axis to better match the transformation that is applied when rendering items on an Armor Stand head and in Item Frames
- For reference, the order of transformations applied to model (starting from innermost) is item_transform, rotate Y 180, transformation field, entity orientation (billboard option + Rotation field + Pos field)
Structure post-processors
Capped post-processor
- A capped post-processor has been added which can limit how many blocks a delegated post-processor randomly transform in a structure
- This can be used to configure a structure piece to have an exact amount of specific blocks, instead of using random distribution
- The capped post-processor has following required parameters:
- delegate A post-processor which performs the actual block transformation
- limit Maximum amount of blocks that the delegated post-processor can transform
- The blocks inside a structure are all randomly passed to the delegated post-processor until it has transformed the limited amount
- Either constant or random number generator sampled during post-processing
Rule post-processor block entity configuration

- This field has now been changed to reference a block_entity_modifier
- Existing block_entity_modifier's are:
- passthrough Retains existing fields on the block entity
- This is the default if no block_entity_modifier is specified
- append_static Similar to previous output_nbt this provides fixed fields to add to the block entity
- A minor change is that this modifier appends configured fields to the processed block instead of replacing existing fields
- clear Removes any existing fields on the block entity
- append_loot Appends a loot table and seed to the block entity through required parameter:
- loot_table Referenced loot table to add to block entity as LootTable field
- Field LootTableSeed is also added to the block entity using random seeded by block position
Loot Tables
Random Sequences
The game now uses named random sequences to deterministically produce loot for loot tables. Each random sequence produces a unique sequence based on the world seed and sequence ID, which means a loot table will produce the same results when ran with the same parameters in the same world.
The ID of the random sequence to use for a loot table is specified in a new optional field called random_sequence. If no sequence name is given, loot is drawn using a non-deterministic random source.
reference
New function reference allows functions to call sub-functions (similar to reference condition).
Fields: - name - location of function to call
any_of/all_of
- Loot condition alternative has been renamed to any_of
- Added new loot condition all_of that passes only when all sub-conditions pass

- Triggered when crafting a recipe
- Conditions:
- recipe_id - the resource location of the recipe crafted
- ingredients - an array of predicates for the item stacks used in the recipe
- A single item stack can only be used to fulfill one predicate
- Each predicate needs to be fulfilled to trigger the advancement. This allows for separation between recipes that have same identifier but use different ingredients.
- This field is optional. When not provided, or left empty, only the recipe_id will dictate the success of the trigger
Changed Triggers
- All fields in placed_block, item_used_on_block and allay_drop_item_on_block have been collapsed into a single location field
- The new location is similar to the player field - it is a list of loot conditions/predicates
- All conditions in this list must match for a trigger to run
- Conditions are evaluated in a new loot context called advancement_location. It has access to:
- Player as this entity
- Position of the placed block
- Block state of the placed/interacted block
- Held/used item as "tool"
- Migration guide:
- Contents of old location field should be migrated to location_check condition
- Contents of item field should be migrated to match_tool condition
- Contents of block + state fields should be migrated to block_state_property condition
Example (from make_a_sign_glow advancement):
Before: { "conditions": { "item": { "items": [ "minecraft:glow_ink_sac" ] }, "location": { "block": { "tag": "minecraft:all_signs" } } }, "trigger": "minecraft:item_used_on_block" } After: { "conditions": { "location": [ { "condition": "minecraft:match_tool", "predicate": { "items": [ "minecraft:glow_ink_sac" ] } }, { "condition": "minecraft:location_check", "predicate": { "block": { "tag": "minecraft:all_signs" } } } ] }, "trigger": "minecraft:item_used_on_block" }

If no sequence name is given, loot is drawn using a non-deterministic random source.
reference

Before: { "conditions": { "item": { "items": [ "minecraft:glow_ink_sac" ] }, "location": { "block": { "tag": "minecraft:all_signs" } } }, "trigger": "minecraft:item_used_on_block" } After: { "conditions": { "location": [ { "condition": "minecraft:match_tool", "predicate": { "items": [ "minecraft:glow_ink_sac" ] } }, { "condition": "minecraft:location_check", "predicate": { "block": { "tag": "minecraft:all_signs" } } } ] }, "trigger": "minecraft:item_used_on_block" }

Once a week Grandfather brings in a fist of flowers from the gsrden to my grandmother and this week is no different. I'm visiting for a few days and I'm glad I'm here on today. He has a slight limp this morning but he gets around pretty well for his age. With flowers in one hand, coffee in the other, he pauses briefly a few feet from the door and takes a deep breath. He scrunches his face on the exhale, like hes remembered something stressful but it gives way to a grin and he steps forward once again, entering the house.
On his way in Grandmother had offered that I could have my pick of her dishes and a second set in her will if I refer to Grandfather as Poppy today. Naturally I'd do this for free but I barter instead for her Fenton glass apples. Negotiations are made and you can consider Poppy mildly annoyed.
I give him enough time to enter the kitchen and offer his findings to Grandmother and wait for my favorite part. She grabs a shallow vase from under the sink and adds water. After shes fiddled with them she places them on the kitchen bar and sits in the stool beside me. Her wrinkled hands reach forward as she grabs a snapdragon and tells me she loves me, in a dragons voice no less. It's a little shakier than when I visited as a child but theres a fierceness still evident.
After a little giggle I look up to see Grandfather smiling as Grandmother, without even look away from her finger puppet, suggest we build onto the house and add a tower. That familiar scrunch to his face as he exhales returns and he simply walks close enough to kiss her forehead. "If you still want one next week we will make it happen", he says softly now walkin beyond her towards his study. She swiftly toddles behind then past him. Bumping into his side, on accident I'm sure, she pinches his tush on her way. "Oh, excuse me. So sorry", through her smile as she stops beside the trashcan to pick a small piece of fuzz from her shirt and let it fall into the bin before returning to her stool. "Couldnt wait could it?" asks Grandfather. "Well when something needs done I should do it when I think of it," she returns, looking through her lashes and over her glasses towards him. "Yea, you're always having to remind her of things, Poppy, so shes actually helping you out" I chime in. Hes looking at the both of us over his glasses now, though much less lovingly than his lady was. Infact I dare say he has a look that pleads to halt the shenanigans until later in the day.
He turns and towards his study he goes. "Let me know if you need anything, Poppy, okay? You need to take it easy today!" I throw my voice across the house to Grandfather. "Okay sw...what was that?" He throws his voice back. "Just let me know if you need anything. I love you!" He returns the sentiment. I think hes caught it but maybe not enough to be sure.
Visiting my grandparents has always been an enjoyable thing. They dont mind family staying over but they did build a small cottage/in law suite in the yard. Not beside the house, of corse, towards the corner of the cleared property. Just incase we want privacy, ya know. They want us to have our own space and having it might encourage us to visit often, is what we are told. Personally, I think they want us to visit without being in their space but who's counting. We do visit and often, and our own space is nice to have here.
We chat and Grandmother updates me of her plans for the day, shes going to spend most of her morning in the green house before an afternoon nap. Grandfather, I mean Poppy, built her the greenhouse before I was born. Hes brought her a treat or little gift every week for so long it was time for a long term investment. She liked planting flowers and she liked receiving flowers, two birds one stone. Plus the added benifit of she liked showing off her flowers so if Grandfather is picking flowers from her garden he has to look at them enough to pick them out. It was just added compliment to her and added convenience to him, now they have flowers near year round.
I help her walk to the greenhouse as we exchange thoughts. I turn at the door to walk towards the suite as I hear her. "Come, let me show you my favorite flowers." Shes shown me a thousand times, just this year. Something about the tone in her voice compels me to turn around without really thinking. I shut the door behind me and reach beside the door where extra gloves are displayed. Maybe not exactly what I wanted to do the rest of the morning but it's still far from the worst.
The greenhouse is a chaotic blend of splendid colors and fragrances. Something to catch the eye from start to Finnish. We walk around as she introduces me to her shining stars and even the ones struggling to live. So far shes mentioned several types of flowers and labeled them as her favorite, typically flowering plants with lots of petals. Carnations, dahlias, there were double petaled hollyhocks, hyacinth, and Daisy's. Some that looked like candy. Some with medicinal tags with notes on a stakes beside them, even some with caution and warning signs.
Before I knew it quite some time had passed. We made our way around the green house and were hanging our gloves up. She has a way of occupying your time without taking your time from you. Cranky or crazy or calm, Grandmother valued our time and always had a knack for spending hours with us without it feeling that way. One of the ways her magic peaks through I suppose.
As we are making our way back to the main house I can see Grandfather through the kitchen window. Hes at the coffee pot again casually checking his phone. I turn to see her looking through the window as well. We've smiled a lot today but her eyes only smile like that when she looks at my grandfather. That might be my 2nd favorite part of visiting. "You forgot to mention snapdragons, Grandmother" I say, "more often than not Grandfather brings you snapragons. Maybe Zennia and snapdragons, or Tulips and snapdragons, or even carnations and tulips and snapdragons, but you get them most of all." "Well yes, those are plenty nice. I have several colors so they'll match with a lot, fun to look at. I like them just fine" she reasons. "So, are they Grandfathers favorite flower then?" I ask, figuring that's perhaps why. "Your Grandfathers? Oh, no dear" "Well, okay then" i say, now pondering this deeper. Snapdragons are a staple in the flowers of the week. They have been as far back as I can remember. Perhaps it's just one of those things?
We've made it into the side door and into the kitchen. I've asked Poppy a few questions and he seems to be noticing but not annoyed enough to say anything yet. After some idle chit chat between us Grandfather helps my grandmother to her room for a nap, returning a few moments later.
"If you dont cut the shit I'll cut you out of my will entirly" he states before his first full step back into the kitchen. The jig is up. I look at him puzzlingly while fighting back a giggle and a grin. "What did she offer you?" Grandfather pressed. I cannot contain it anymore. Laughter sets loose and even Poppy is sharing in it. "I didnt know if you really noticed" I say as he interupts. "How could I not. You were alone with your grandmother so of course you're up to no good. You've never called me that, and besides do I look like a Poppy? I'm robust. I'm alive and well, not a small flower" he tifts through his smile.
I explain I'm the new owner of her glass apples and mention how I would have done it for free. He compares how spite for amusement is something I share with my grandmother as he pats my hand. He looks towards the hallways to where shes napping then back towards me. "Dont tell her I called you put. Dont you give her the satisfaction of know that I even noticed. He pulls a twenty dollar bill from his pocket and slides it across the counter space towards me I accept his outdated money and sit back in my chair. A physical us dollar hasnt really been worth anything in decades but I'm getting quite the collection that's to bribes. Come to think of it...nah, that themes for another story.
"Hey, before I go to the suite tell me why the snapdragons?" as I'm gesturing towards the vase of flowers. "Well. You see, they are flowers. I pick flowers for your grandmother. Next question" "No," I laugh, "why pick those so often? She has several flowers our there and quite a few of her favorites."
He sits back, "No, those arent her favorites. But she has the most fun with them."

2023.06.07 16:57 Low_Locksmith_861 Help Deciding between two laptops URGENT
Long story short im in the military and leaving to go overseas soon.
Last week i purchased an Acer Helios 300
12700h / 3070 / 1080p screen / ddr4 ram = I got it out the door at the PX for 1120 with a 2 year protection plan
Fast forward to 3 days ago i decided if im going to spend money on one better get something a little better So i went and bought another Acer predator ph315-55 / 3070ti / ddr5 ram / 1440p screen/240hz ips/newer design which i doubt the 3070ti can even use 100fps on most games at 2k. That costed me 1410 out the door with NO protection plan from best buy.
My question is. What one would you guys keep? Do you think the extra cost is worth it for the newer helios i have now and losing the protection plan? Or should i return both and buy a different system? my budget was around 1500. I saw the katana with a 4070 but i read bad things about it.
Thanks

2023.06.07 16:39 SpacePaladin15 The Nature of Predators 122
First Prev Patreon Arxur POV of the Cradle Series wiki Official subreddit Discord ---
Memory transcription subject: Captain Sovlin, United Nations Fleet Command Date [standardized human time]: January 15, 2137 I was claiming an unwanted milestone with this voyage; I was certain I was the furthest below water of any Gojid, who hadn’t already been dead and sinking, in history. Some predators were monitoring their scanners for the slightest sign of activity, though I was told an entire team was dedicated to sonar monitoring in a separate chamber too. Sitting in a dark room with headphones for hours, with no idea what was happening, sounded awful. The supervisory officials and secondary team here got a much better deal.
Additionally, fire control technicians oversaw guidance systems on the bridge. Most of their work was grounded in electronic and digital concerns. From what Onso had told me, this vessel had underwater missiles which were connected to the ship computer by wires. Once the payload got close enough to the target, an onboard homing mechanism took over.
By watching the various stations, I was beginning to decipher bits and pieces from their screens. Judging by the learning curve, anyone with training in starship sensors could adjust to sonar after a few days, in a pinch. Onso seemed aware of most duties, having studied up on the intricacies; I was grateful for his explanations. All the same, it was of some comfort that Tyler, Samantha, and Carlos were in unfamiliar territory too.
“We’re getting close to the presumed location of the Farsul base,” Carlos whispered. “There’s no telling what they’re hiding down here. Maybe it’s everything that’s been done to every species!”
Onso flicked his ears. “A proper database would help with bringing our culture back, exactly as it was. They’re the historian species, so it’s a good place to go digging. They have a weapon as great as any Kolshian tech: information. The baseline for every civilization that has ever lived.”
“I wonder what they have on humanity. Perhaps one or two things that are true?” Sam snickered.
Tyler pinched the bridge of his nose. “What made them so certain we died in nuclear Armageddon? How much did they hide about us?”
“I don’t know, but my ship’s doctor wrote a paper in an ethics class about why it was morally just to execute you for your aggression. They didn’t teach anything good about you,” I offered.
Samantha beamed with mock excitement. “Wow, what a splendid ethics class, and a rousing thesis by the good-hearted doctor! Meanwhile, our physicians swear an oath to do no harm. I’m glad that prey are so much more well-versed on right and wrong.”
Tyler struck a puzzled expression. “I took an ethics class in college, before I dropped out of that shit-hole to piss off my old man. Best decision of my life. Anyhow, there were some interesting dilemmas they brought up in that class. The trolley problem is about if it’s ethical to ever do harm, but for good, you know?”
“I don’t. What’s the trolley problem?” I asked.
“There’s a train going down a track toward five people. You can pull a lever so it only hits one dude on another path instead. Should you?”
“Why does anyone have to get run over by a train? Did Onso make this garbage up?”
The Yotul flashed his teeth with a growling sound, pinning his ears back against his head. I didn’t see why my question was objectionable; he was the one with an affinity for outdated trains, to the detriment of advancement. The marsupial made a point of lamenting railroad destruction when we first met.
“Oh, fuck off.” Tyler rolled his blue eyes, and raised his hands in exasperation. “Your ethics classes wanted to genocide our whole planet!”
Carlos nodded. “And us predators talk about killing the least amount of people. Even I see the irony.”
“The Federation has no redeeming attributes,” Sam hissed. “Guess we’re gonna get to see Baldy’s real culture soon. Then we’ll know if the rest of the galaxy used to have a brain.”
My spines bristled, at the thought of uncovering the original Gojid culture. While I knew that the Federation committed similar atrocities as omnivorous and predator races, it was still painful to think of our real history being flaunted in front of me. What if the Terrans could throw past atrocities in my face, and hammer home the fact that a species’ empathy wasn’t a prevailing factor against cruelty? I couldn’t imagine how it felt for the predators to continually defend their past.
If our past culture was depraved, I don’t want it rebuilt or brought back. We could’ve been like Onso’s kind, killing our own people over food. The fact that I was worried about our discoveries meant I’d accepted the ludicrous idea that the Farsul had institutions beneath the waves. Perhaps I trusted the humans too much, but it was a rare occasion when they were off the mark. They’d been a reliable source of information, even if they weren’t often forthcoming. I studied Captain Fournier as he presided over the bridge; his words on submarine capabilities left me shaken.
Understanding why the predators behaved with such a laissez-faire attitude toward extinction was a moot point; worrying for them was the emotion I couldn’t squash. I knew the three humans from my shuttle were all from different tribes on Earth. If we won this war and peace prevailed in the galaxy, what was to stop the Terran settlements from pointing doomsday weapons at each other again? Would Samantha and Tyler be trying to kill each other?
There were certain crevasses in humanity’s history that were like a mirror, when the comparisons were spelled out in plain fashion. However, in this area, I wasn’t worried about similarities being unearthed. There was an inherent difference in our species’ aggressivity that was evident, given our contrasting sensibilities. It bothered me, knowing that Terrans were not suited to long-term cooperation with each other.
“Can your aggression ever truly sto—” I started to blurt.
A sonar supervisor barked words in a commanding voice, after receiving a broadband communique from her team. “Two matching acoustic signatures, 200 meters out. We’ve put a tracker on them and forwarded the data to weapons.”
Captain Fournier clasped his hands behind his back. “Two contacts, 200 meters out. We’ll log the sound patterns in our database. Maintain battle readiness and prepare to fire on my command.”
With enemy submersibles sighted, the crackpot underwater base theory looked more plausible. Onso’s eyes lit up, as the human shipmates coordinated various actions. I could see a security feed of the torpedo bay, where predators were prepared to physically load replacement weapons from racks. The munitions looked massive, even compared to a predator’s unyielding frame. Other Terrans were tending to pre-loaded tubes, hooking up communications cables.
The wires do seem a little primitive, but it’s stealthy and immune to interference. The predators have extravagant tech, yet it’s only used when it’s optimal. Much of the necessary procedures and checks could be done by weapons specialists on the bridge. Captain Fournier growled the order to fire two torpedoes, and fire control ejected the munitions through the muzzle doors. Without a viewport, I could only judge the launch’s success from received data. From what I could tell, the twin projectiles were propelling themselves in the wrong direction.
Onso had noticed my confused gaze. “Yeah, they’re aimed off-kilter, just at first. Makes it difficult for the enemy to tell where the missile came from…to track it. It’s like interfering with targeting on a starship.”
The Yotul’s explanation proved correct again; fire control routed the torpedoes back on course, after their initial journey. The Farsul submarines were oblivious to the incoming weapons, and with our minimalist noise, they might not detect anything until their vessels were annihilated. The predatory nature of this sneak attack wasn’t lost on me. The humans operated unseen, not alerting foes to their presence until it was too late.
The cables were cut once the torpedoes were in seeking range; the warheads’ active sonar was inescapable in close proximity. The pings tipped off the exact enemy locations, and allowed last second course corrections. Human engineering was perfect in orchestrating a kill, as I never should’ve doubted. They’d risen to every challenge hurled at them, from bringing drones into spatial warfare, to shield-breaking missiles. The ocean was an old, familiar hunting ground to them, so this fight was both natural and intuitive.
Sonar screens lit up with bursts of noise, painting a story of metal cracking like a dropped fruit. The power of our munitions contributed to the explosion’s loudness too; that level of energy output was anything but quiet. Stealth was no longer necessary though, with our submarine’s proverbial fangs planted in the Farsul’s throats. I could imagine the two submerged vessels being spliced into shrapnel, as the detonations clashed against their plating.
Captain Fournier conversed with the sonar supervisor, before turning to the bridge. “Two confirmed kills. Continue on a descent course, in the direction of those ships.”
“We go toward them, we’ll find the base,” I muttered.
Onso wagged his tail. “We find the base, we save the Yotul. We rid ourselves of their influence once and for all!”
Samantha raised an eyebrow. “Assuming they don’t wipe digital data or blow up the base, when all is lost. They love scorched earth, lightly suggested by the whole exterminator hoopla. Better destroyed than used by predators.”
“You are irony-poisoned.” Carlos shook his head lightly. “We get to the Archives, and we find what we can. Even if they wipe servers, who says our techies can’t recover it?”
Our submarine descended ever deeper, pressing ahead toward the real Farsul Archives. Talsk’s moon was falling above us, and space fleets were clashing around the deorbiting body. All the same, the real battle was a handful of stealth ships here, dishing out silent strikes. We remained vigilant for other enemies, knowing we were close to the base’s suspected location. If they spotted us first, then they would have a chance to strike before we could.
Is there any way to defend against an oncoming torpedo, if the Farsul have such weapons? It seems like you never sense them coming, and you can’t…look out a window. Captain Fournier pursed his lips. “Sweep the area with an active sonar ping. We need to get a read on the terrain and hopefully, the base’s exact location.”
The sonar supervisor relayed the orders, and Onso tensed up a little. The Yotul whispered to me that active pings gave away our position, by transmitting our own sound into the water. However, sailing blind into unknown territory could end us crashing, or missing the base altogether. We had to hold our breath, and pray the Farsul wouldn’t pick us up. Their capabilities were unknown, but they must possess listening devices for deep-water travel to be possible.
Knowing that we were more than a thousand meters below water, I didn’t want to find out what would happen to us if the ship imploded. It was impressive that it wasn’t crushed by the outside pressure already, come to think of it. At this depth, atmospheric pressure couldn’t be suitable for land lifeforms. That was a fear I didn’t need to dwell on.
The acoustic energy illuminated the terrain for our sightless submarine, allowing the predators to map their surroundings. I listened to the bridge chatter, as they scrambled to classify nearby points of interest. Echo sounding confirmed we were close to the ocean bottom; it was level apart from a few elevation shifts. Deep-sea invertebrates sprouted skeletons on the sea floor, wherever space was available. The most promising sign was a wide area of unusual signal absorption, which was believed to be the base.
As nervous as I was about getting attacked, well out of any sun’s eye, it seemed like we’d gotten away with the emitted ping. Perhaps it was foolish to assign human competence to the Farsul. Why would they expect to see other vessels
on the seafloor, armed with a predator’s tech? How could a prey animal even think of using detection methods, which hunted other ships down for making the slightest noise?
The sonar supervisor stiffened. “Torpedo in the water!”
Oh stars. At least the humans had picked up a telltale propulsion system from the torpedo, but that meant the Farsul knew we were here. While there were other UN submarines en route, none were flanking us or backing us up. The predators better have some insane defensive tactics, or we would wind up in a million pieces. I didn’t like the prospect of my lungs being crushed.
“Brace yourselves for inbound munitions!” Captain Fournier growled into a microphone. “Return fire toward the source.”
The Farsul submarine was patrolling just shy of the Archives base, and wasn’t, to our knowledge, joined by any comrades. While taking immediate defensive steps, the Terrans dubiously focused on getting their own torpedo into the water. Skepticism marked itself on my face, but Onso leapt to the predators’ defense. The Yotul claimed this counterstrike was to prevent the enemy from firing again. I could feel my heart crawl into my throat, as our own projectile was spit back with haste.
Our submarine reoriented itself in the opposite direction, away from the base, and fled at maximum speed. The incoming torpedo had the edge in speed, so it seemed futile to run away. I guessed that the munition had limited fuel; even so, its tank wouldn’t run dry quick enough. We dove as close to the seafloor as we could risk, and the sharp descent almost made me tumble down the bridge.
The Farsul’s torpedo was gaining ground, threatening to sink us. Captain Fournier, just like his counterparts in the stars, was cool under pressure; he waited for the munitions to lock onto us. The bearded leader shouted for a sonar decoy to be deployed. As the deceitful device jetted away, I squinted for clues on nearby screens. Per Onso, it unleashed a cloak of bubbles and jamming frequencies, scrambling the missile’s sonar-seeking systems.
“Did it w-work?” I wrapped my claws around Carlos’ arm with the bear tattoo, remembering not to cling to Samantha again. “I hate water. I’ll take death by vacuum any day.”
Carlos squeezed my paw awkwardly. “I don’t know if it worked. We always hope for the best, but no combat situation is a guarantee. Just breathe, buddy.”
Our submersible attempted to skirt the torpedo’s search area, while it was hung up on the false targets our decoy provided. We veered well off to the side, and ensured absolute silence. The
Deep Core looped back around, tiptoeing past the range we’d been chased from. There was no sign of an inbound contact following us. I realized we had successfully fooled the munition’s homing logic; I released Carlos’ arm at last.
Perhaps it had been wise of the Terrans to impart a shot back. Our foes were too preoccupied to send more trouble our way; one torpedo was enough. Those thoughts reminded me that we had taken offensive actions to counter theirs. Sniffing out the vessel that attempted to sink us was a priority. The torpedo we’d fired at the Farsul submarine hadn’t found its mark, as the enemy managed to pull nifty evasive maneuvers. However, their engines stirred up ample noise, with that sudden haste. Though they had avoided our first missile, I thought we had a clear target for our next round.
However, it was not necessary to expend another weapon on this nefarious submarine. The Terran torpedo missed its target the first time, but it doubled back for another pass without warning. On the second attempt, it struck true into the hapless Farsul’s frame; another hostile was ravaged in the blink of an eye. The humans had a perfect sinking score, proving themselves to be the more devious prowlers.
I doubted the Farsul expected anyone to get this close to their lair; all we had to do was poke at their defenses from a few angles. If this mop-up was representative of our disparate power, the other UN submarines must be closing in on the base too. In space, losses and hardships could be inflicted upon the predators. However, land and sea appeared to be their chief dominion, where their exceptional talents put them miles ahead of the competition.
The oceanic path to the Farsul Archives had been cleared, and soon, humanity might begin to reclaim the actual history of the multitude of Federation species.

2023.06.07 16:38 Jaywu87 Toddler Sleep issues!
TLDR: toddler won’t sleep no matter what we try!! Can now get out of crib and open doors. Halp.
Our daughter will be 3 in September and she’s just always been stubborn when it comes to sleep. She didn’t sleep through the night until she was 9mo old, she refuses bedtime most of the time and stays awake in her bed for over an hour most nights no matter what time we put her to bed, and she’s always hated naptime.
We’ve tried all the things; later bedtime, earlier bedtime, longer naps, shorter naps, snack before bed, no snacks before bed, shorter routine, longer routine, more freedom, less freedom. She’s super active, we try to give her plenty of attention, limit screen time before bed, get outside as much as possible. Nothing seems to work, she just does what she wants or screams til she falls asleep. I’m not a fan of CIO but sometimes it’s the only way she’ll calm down and go to sleep.
Well she’s been figuring out how to escape her crib using other furniture in her room, so we removed the furniture other than the crib but last night she figured out how to crawl out without anything else. So for safety we converted her bed to the “big girl bed” toddler bed. Same mattress, just with the side rail off and a mesh rail on to keep her from falling out.
Problem is she’s also discovered she can open doors. Now we can’t keep her in bed for the life of us.
I’ve asked for advice and a lot of people said “lock her door” or to use a baby gate. I’m planning on getting a baby gate for her doorway but that doesn’t really solve the main issue of how do I convince her to go to sleep?? We also have a 5mo old who sleeps in the room next to hers and I’d really love it if she WASN’T screaming in the hallway keeping him up because we won’t let her out of her room.
Are we just doomed? I’m about this close to just letting her stay up til 10pm with me because I don’t know what else to do. TIA!

2023.06.07 16:30 feistylilly84 I ended up sh*tting in the dollar store parking lot
Story time! A few weeks ago, I was going to an event. It took me 2 hours to get ready and I looked AMAZING! Short, plaid skirt, matching bra covered by a sheer, black crop top. I looked and felt HOT! I was so excited for the event and to see my peoples! But, the universe had other plans for me.
The event was an almost 2 hour drive from me. Which is fine. I've done that drive many times! It's all good, right?? 20 minutes into the drive, my stomach starts cramping. Usually, when thos happens, I have about 10 minutes to find a bathroom. But, the cramping only lasted a couple minutes and then stopped. So, I thought I was ok and continued my drive. An hour later, my stomach starts cramping again. So, I start looking for a gas station or something. But, I was SOL. I was on a stretch of highway with NOTHING for MILES! The cramping is very quickly getting worse and I start panicking! I see on my GPS that the closest gas station is 6 minutes away, so I click it and head towards that station. 1 minute later, I'm getting off on an exit and at this point I KNOW I'm not gonna make it 5 more minutes. I'm gripping the steering wheel for dear life and I'm already sweating. I drive for 2 more minutes, only seeing factories and warehouses. No where that would have a bathroom I could use. I FINALLY see a dollar store. I quickly start to pull into the parking lot, but.... it was too late. As I was turning into the lot, that overwhelming sick feeling hit me and I was about to throw up. At the same time, the stuff inside that I was trying so hard to keep in, started pushing out and I couldn't stop it. Let me repeat... I was wearing a short skirt (with very little under). It was already coming out by the time I parked. There was NO WAY I could walk inside and all the way to the back where the restrooms were. So, I did the only thing I could think to do. I grabbed the small, paper McDonald's bag, opened my door, set the bag on the ledge of the door and aimed. I was facing the entry to the parking lot, so I was PRAYING to any God who would listen, that no one pulled up while I was doing this. Well, that small, paper McDonald's bag folded in on itself. Next thing I know, there's shit EVERYWHERE. On the ledge of my car, on the ground of the parking lot, running down my legs, and into my favorite shoes. And there was SO MUCH. When I was finished, I looked at the mess and wanted to just die. I grabbed the 2 blankets I had brought with me. I used 1 to pick up as much of the crap that I could, and used the other to cover my seat. I got in the car and used baby wipes to clean myself as best as I could, called my friend while crying and told her I wouldn't be making it to the event. I had to drive and hour and 20 minutes home, smelling the awful smell. When I got home, I immediately showered and put my clothes in the wash. I cleaned my car, which took over an hour. The nasty stuff got under my seat and under the rail that the seat slides on. I eneded up just throwing away the 2 blankets and my favorite shoes. I also threw away the bath towel, 2 hand towels, and 3 wash cloths I had used to clean the car. I later did a Google Street view of that dollar store, to see if there were cameras outside. Luckily, there weren't.
In all my 38 years of living, I don't think I've ever had a more humiliating and demoralizing experience. That day, I hated my body more than I ever had.
So, lesson learned. I now have a 5 gallon bucket in my trunk, with emergency supplies. The bucket serves as a toilet in case of emergency.

2023.06.07 15:56 kevysaysbenice Live in the city and want to build small deck off the back of my house, but at floor level I can easily see into my neighbors backyard. Any good solutions? Experiences with privacy screens? Taller fence?
So my floor level is about 2ish feet off the ground. I want to build a deck at the same level as my main floor. I live in a city with a relatively small backyard / garden lot.
We have an existing 6 foot privacy fence between our houses, but a deck at ~2' means when standing on the deck you'd effectively be looking into our neighbors back yard.
We get along well with our neighbors, they are super chill / easy going, so I'm not worried about much on the relationship side, but if I go through the effort of building a fence deck I'd really like to avoid a situation where basically anytime we're looking out our sliding door we'd be basically staring at our neighbors if they were in the back yard.
I'm looking for some experiences from people who have had similar situations. Have you been able to solve them well enough with something like a metal privacy screen? Are there any other good solutions to this?
I want to add that although I mentioned the deck, it's also the costly process of installing a larger sliding door from my dining room onto the deck, and it means that without a privacy screen when looking into my backyard from inside I'd also be looking right over the fence - so it's really important for me to get this right in order to justify actually going through all the trouble.
Thanks for your thoughts!
