2023.03.29 21:56 ParticularMuted2795 2015 Silverado 5.3 94k Bad gas?

Quick question for everyone. I almost always use mobile gas at the same station and typically get about 20mpg combined on a tank. This week I was in a spot where I needed gas and closest station was a RaceTrac. I knew I shouldn’t but filled up here. I’m halfway through a tank now. Getting 16ish with the same driving habits and no other changes. Can bad gas make that big of a difference? TIA

I'm making an... unusual SPOM setup. something keeps going wrong and I cant tell where
I'm currently experimenting with probably one the more (arguably) useless buildings in this game, the thermo nullifier. my goal was to make a SPOM set up that would use the hydrogen build up SPOMs normally have and use it for the thermo nullifier to make a cooling system using some early game materials, such as copper, gold and igneous rock, to replace the cooling solution of ice/snow. silly idea, but I wanted to at least challenge myself to try and mess around with the concept. the concept is either flawed in nature or I am using the wrong solution to the idea
overview of the build
an issue I am currently experiencing is that my SPOM isn't very much of a SPOM in the first place, and is more of an almost SPOM. I usually kick start it with the dev generator and then turn it off after a small amount of the cycle, and it works fine for awhile. after a cycle, it shuts down and stops being self reliant and needs another boost from the dev generator. I literally have no clue what is causing this as none of my math I have done is wrong, I triple checked. 3200Ws should be made and 2400Ws should be used at most. the SPOM itself is making 3554gs of oxygen and is being sucked out by 6 gas pumps, which should add up to 3000gs being removed per second. I am having a real hard time pin pointing where something is going wrong.

2023.03.29 21:35 TomakDunnski How habitable will the planet actually be for survivors post apocalypse (non neuclear war)?

So when I think about it due to human infrastructure of the current world, a post apocalypse world would be extremely dangerous and hard to live in even if the threat (zombies, virus what ever) is no longer present. Survival off the land would obviously be hard but what I mean here is that human infrastructure would throw up some unforeseen dangerous.
Without maintenance and things being in working order there would be all kinds of issues that survivors would need to be aware of. Take petrol stations for example. I'm sure they'll be fine for a time but after corrosion sets in theres a potential for leaks to spring up and make the immediate area dangerous. Sewers could collapse roads and whole cities could go down. Dams break flooding massive areas. Oil refineries in the ocean, the amount of oil leaks into the ocean could be catastrophic for sea life and therefore food for survivors. Gas pipe lines leaking and rupturing, neuclear power stations all would eventually corrode, become unstable and ultimately create huge dangers to survivors. Even something as simple as cars, again all the break fluid, petrol and oils would eventually leak out in the area into the soil making it impossible to grow food.
Even those in areas with less of the infrastructure mentioned would feel the effects of off shore oil refineries, chemical leaks into the ocean, neuclear power stations exploding. An what about the neuclear weapons that do exist... eventually again corrosion sets in and the area become impossible to live in. What are your thoughts on dangers survivors might face?

2023.03.29 21:32 RSForman Odd Starting issue- 2017 Ford Mustang Convertible

I had something odd happen twice this weekend, and was unsure if anyone else had this issue. After turning the car off, I pressed the starter button without my foot in the brake. The car completely shut down, and I was unable to start it back up. The key fobs did not work. Everything was shut down. I was stuck at a gas station, so I opened the hood and closed it. Only then could I get the car to start again. Did the same exact thing later, and again, was only able to turn on the car by opening and releasing the hood. Other than that, I have had no issues starting the car. Taking it in for service on Saturday, but was curious if anyone else experienced this, or may know a reason why this would happen.

2023.03.29 21:06 Powerful-Piccolo1944 I was hit by a car during a storm and now Geico says I’m 100% liable for damages - TX

This all happened in the Fort Worth area of Texas.
On March 16, 2023, my car was hit during a rain/hail storm. While I was changing lanes with my turn signal on, another car hydroplaned and hit the passenger side of my vehicle. I immediately called 911, and the police arrived at the gas station next to the accident scene. Although I took a picture of my car's damage, I couldn't get one of the other car involved in the accident. The police didn't give me a police or accident report, saying it was up to the insurance to decide who was at fault. I couldn't get the badge numbers or names of the officers as I was upset and in shock. The police didn't let me talk to the other driver, and instead gave me a piece of paper with their insurance information on it.
I called my insurance company, Geico, and explained the situation. My Geico agent advised me to take a picture of the car damage once the weather cleared up. However, when I tried to take my car to a body shop, I struggled to find one that could take it in within my lease terms. I eventually found one and took my car in on March 27, 2023, where the body shop informed me that the kind of damage my car had could not have been from me hitting someone, but from someone hitting my passenger side head on.
However, Geico is claiming that the accident is 100% my fault and has not made it easy for me to communicate with them. I have called them almost every day since the accident to ensure that they have all my information and that I have been following their processes. On March 22, 2023, I called Geico asking if they needed any other information from me, and although they said they didn't need anything, they later sent me an email stating they had been trying to reach me for days and that I was avoiding their calls. This is not true as I just spoke to them earlier today. Geico reported that they had a police report, but that is not possible since I called the police department and they stated they do not have such a report for the accident as they do not provide such things according to the police officer on the scene.
I am disputing Geico's decision as I don't agree that the accident is 100% my fault. However, this situation has caused me a great deal of stress, and I have been unable to keep food down, which is now affecting my work. I don’t know what to do, and it is making me spiral. What should I do, to dispute Geico in order to not be 100% at fault?

2023.03.29 21:00 The_Fallen_1 [THJVerse] Arcane Starfarers - ep 5 - Go for launch

First / Previous / Next
-----------------------------
“Captain, all crew are accounted for, and all visitors are no longer aboard the ship. All manifests check out, and fuel tanks are full. We are ready to launch at your command,” Commander Santlen’coln told her.
“All hands, this is the Captain,” Captain Harris announced into the ship’s PA. “We will now be commencing our go no-go checks. Please ready yourselves for launch. Navigation, go no-go?”
“Go,” the navigator replied.
“Tactical?”
“Go,” Hannah’rah replied.
“Drones?”
“Go,” Lieutenant Commander Williams responded.
“Aether?”
“Go.”
“EWar?”
“Go,” Daniel replied.
“Science?”
“We’re go.”
“Medical?”
“Go,” Dr Leresan’s voice came over the comms.
“Engineering?”
“Go.”
“Operations?”
“Go.”
“Flight decks?”
“We’re go.”
“Vehicles?”
“Go.”
“Storage?”
“Go”
“Manufacturing and processing?”
“Go.”
“Marines?”
“Go.”
“VI?”
“Go,” Affinity replied.
“Communications?”
“Go, and clearance from STC secured,” the final person replied.
“All hands, we are go for launch. I repeat, we are go for launch,” the Captain announced, smiling as she heard faint cheers throughout the ship. “Release berths and take us out.”
“Aye, Captain,” the navigation officer replied.
Daniel watched the screens to the side of the room as the clamps on the side of the ship released and began to retract, slowly sliding further and further ahead of the ship as the manoeuvring drives took the ship out of the docking arms. After a few moments of backwards motion, the ship began to turn and roll, but Daniel felt absolutely none of it as the inertial dampers and gravity generators worked in harmony to negate all the forces inside the ship.
“Captain, we are clear of the station,” the officer told her.
“Good. Lieutenant Commander Skrnumm, engage the warp drive and take us to Gate 05,” Captain Harris instructed.
“Aye, Captain,” the Dwarf replied. “Activating warp drive to Gate 05. ETA, 25 minutes.”
“And with the relativity shielding active?”
“... ETA, 5 seconds,” the navigation officer corrected himself.
“That’s what I like to hear. Proceed.”
Daniel watched as the screens showing the space outside the ship suddenly went black, apart from where small edges of the hull were visible, and most of the external sensors shut off with a relativity shielding warning. The only sensors that seemed to remain active were gravitational, quantum, and Aether based, and the Aether based ones were the only ones not suffering from interference. The interference didn’t last long though, as after the 5 seconds, the ship came to a stop with a large ring with a purple glow around the edge of the inside, and a line of ships travelling in either direction. Defence platforms and a mixture of frigates and corvettes seemed to orbit the ring in a tight sphere, keeping the vital lane of travel safe.
“Captain, we’re at the edge of the interdiction field,” Lieutenant Commander Skrnumm announced.
“Very good. Approach holding point alpha. Comms, send over ship mass and get us clearance to pass through.”
“Yes, Captain,” both officers replied.
“Engineering,” the Captain spoke into her comms terminal. “Tell me the news?”
“Warp drive seems perfect, the field seemed to operate as expected. We’re good to give it a proper run when the time comes,” Engineering replied.
“That’s what I like to hear,” she told them, closing her comms.
“Captain, we’ve got clearance to jump,” the comms officer announced. “They don’t like us, but we can go when you’re ready.”
“Are we too fat for them?” Captain Harris asked, raising her eyebrow.
“We’re going to have to force them to shut down not too long after we pass through. We do have a heavy ship and it is near the end of the gate’s cycle after all. We’re going to tip them over their energy quota.”
“My main concern is that we keep our schedule, not that they could do with another generator,” she replied. “Skrnumm, join the line.”
“Aye Captain,” he replied, accelerating the ship forward and into position.
The ship drifted at the safe jump speed, holding a moderate distance behind an empty freighter. Daniel looked through the centre of the gate, watching as the starscape of another star system slowly dominated more and more of his view. There was a faint purple glow on the hull of the freighter in front of them as it passed through, and moments later, the lighting inside the ship gained a purple tint, and a low alarm sounded three times. Everyone standing up held onto something to steady themselves. Daniel watched as the gate drew closer and closer, until the screens began to flash a faint purple, working their way back until there was a dull purple flash in the back of his eyes. A few moments later, the alarm sounded once and the lights returned to normal.
“Captain, transfer successful. We’re in Caenten,” Skrnumm announced.
Daniel could hardly believe his eyes as he stared at the dimmed display of the bright blue star in the distance. He knew the screen didn’t do it justice, and he wished he was on a civilian vessel for a moment, as he could set down on the system’s mining colony and observe the alien star with his own eyes. He felt something touch his hand, and he instinctively curled his fingers between Hannah’rah’s as they both stared slack-jawed at the blue orb.
“Perfect. Set heading for Gate 03….”
-----------------------------
“Transfer successful, Captain. We’re in Cassaladia.”
“And that’s us on the edge of the core,” Captain Harris stated. “Alright, we’re due to dock at Valar L1 for manufacturing materials, so let’s get this over with before the shift changes, give your teams a bit of an easy first time on the bridge.”
“Plotting course. ETA, 2 minutes,” Skrnumm announced.
“I love this warp drive,” Captain Harris mumbled.
While his console was effectively useless at warp, Daniel was able to review all the data from the sensors useful to his toolset. It wasn’t useful on its own, but it did give him a normal reading, which allowed him to filter out the generic noise that the sensors made or picked up, which potentially helped to identify very weak signals. To test this, he began to to analyse the signals of the eight systems they’d been in, and began to line up the anomalies with the transponders of various ships and stations they had passed by, finding that he was able to identify most of them with relative ease. A few small shuttles proved tricky at longer ranges however, and he couldn’t pick them out of the different noise that each star generated. He decided that at some point he would try and get a reading in deep space to try and get a better normal reading to build from that could then be used to build a filter to better help work out each star’s noise. Unfortunately, Cassaladia’s star was somewhat unstable, and he was unable to pick up even the signals of the other Gates in the system, so he immediately gave up as he didn’t need this right at the end of his bridge shift.
“Captain, we’ve arrived,” Skrnumm announced.
Daniel looked up at the screen ahead of him, quickly spotting the blocky station, one side swarming with mining drones, and the other clear of drones but covered in heavy equipment. A large number of asteroids surrounded the station like a shell, but there were some large holes evidently kept clear for approaching ships, which the Trailmaker flew through. There was a slight haze on the shields as they pushed through the layer of dust and tiny fragments of shattered rock, but it quickly abated, and an ok from comms caused the ship to press forward. They continued until they were side by side with the station, with the Trailmaker’s cargo bay inline with the station's loading equipment.
“And that is us,” Captain Harris announced. “Alright, switch over to Ops and let them run the show for a bit. Your replacements should be coming up now. So finish your other tasks if you have them, and then you’re all off duty until 1000. Transfer should be long finished by then, so we’ll set out nice and early, and see if we can’t get to Shinga Orbital before we break for lunch."
Relieved, Daniel began to look at the people entering the bridge, spotting Corporal Kreklan approaching him. He logged out of his console, stood up, and stepped to the side, patting the Centaur on the back as the Corporal moved to lie down on the chair, which automatically changed shape to suit his quadrupedal body.
"Ok, you've got an easy first shift," Daniel began. "The ship is staying here, and the metallic dust clouds are going to make your scopes useless, so the station will know of anything before you do. Use this time to set up your decks if you haven't already. After that, spend time familiarising yourself with what the ship is like with the training data I compiled on the way here. Should be just like class. Tell the people taking over from you later to do the same."
"Yes, Sir," Corporal Kreklan replied.
"Great, you got this," Daniel told him, heading over to Hannah'rah.
“I have to say, that’s a lot of asteroids,” Hannah’rah commented as they left the bridge.
“Yeah, Cassaladia is known for that. The star blasted the inner planets apart early on in the system’s life, and so the system is full of asteroids, many of which are metal rich. Makes a great mining system, especially around Valar. Its high mass as a gas giant brings a lot of the asteroids close, so they just collect them and dump them in the Lagrange points for processing,” Daniel explained.
“Ok, Walking Encyclopaedia, what else is interesting about this system?”
“The question function costs 15 credits,” he joked. “Nah, that’s all I really managed to read up on before we arrived. If we're docking here, might as well have a basic understanding of what's around us."
"Yeah, I should probably do that too. So, any plans?"
"Check in on my team. The other three should be awake now."
"Three, so lucky…. I've got nine, not counting the one that just took over."
"Well, at least you haven't got the marines as well. That would be a handful."
"That's the one blessing I have," she sighed. "I feel like blowing off some steam. Sort out our teams and have a spar before mess?"
"Sure, but you may not want to bring your team. I'd hate to ruin your image so early on."
"Oh I am so going hard on you," she grinned.

2023.03.29 20:40 WhatAReachMan Loneliness and addiction

I don’t mean to be self deprecating, but being a friendless loser has always been a constant in my life. For as long as I can remember - this goes back to kindergarten - I have been either bullied or isolated. Needless to say, I’ve never had any friends or relationships. My family is incredibly small and divided, it’s basically me and my parents who can’t think about anything else but themselves. My siblings cut us off, but I’m stuck for financial reasons.
In my teenage years I turned to the internet for relief. Which I found, for a brief period of time. Being autistic I found the medium of text to be way less confusing and easier to handle. Still, after a while I - this has to be around four years into my internet addiction - I found myself not being able to be satisfied with just using the internet alone to escape from reality.
Logical next step is alcohol, right? And that’s what I would do. I’d drink liquor from the kitchen, and when that stopped being sustainable, I would buy the strongest vodka from the local gas station on my way home from school. This persisted into the first half of my first year in university.
But I needed more. So I started cutting myself. It felt great - the endorphins that get released make you feel like you’ve just ran a marathon, without needing to put in any effort. This of course wasn’t sustainable, I started getting incredibly paranoid about people seeing my scars and calling me a freak. I did some psychedelics, but I’m afraid that apart from making me feel funky they didn’t really help me. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the experience.
You’re probably wondering what’s next? Today I bought H. I will be using it tonight. Maybe this will fill the void, but if it doesn’t it’ll sure as shit put me out of my misery.
