2023.03.15 21:41 jaystanding When can I take my puppy outside? Getting conflicting information
I have a 16 week old mini poodle, and today I took her to a Vetco clinic for her final 5-way shot. I asked the woman administering the vaccine if she was good to go on walks now. She said my area (NYC) doesn’t have a high risk of parvo so she’ll be fine.
However, when I got home I called her regular vet office, and the nurse told me it’s best to keep her in the house for another two weeks.
I want to keep my baby safe, but personally I don’t think I have another two weeks in me to keep her inside. I’m over her using the potty pads in the house and my puppy is getting extremely bored (which is understandable). Right after we left Petco I kept her on her harness, let her walk on the pavement, and she had the time of her life!
I’m not quite sure what to do though going forward. Can anyone else chime in? Can someone from NYC (or another big city) chime in and tell me what they did with theirs.

2023.02.24 17:02 snailsharts 9 mo old female kitten with urinary issue
Hi all! I am seeking some comfort from other people who mught have been through this before.
Species: Cat
Age: 9 months
Sex/Status: Female, Spayed in December
Breed: Shorthair Orange Tabby?
Weight: 7 lbs
History: Nothing of note
Clinical signs: Urinating on any clothing or towels my husband and I leave on the floor as well as on plastic bags and in moving boxes
Duration: Since Jan 23rd when we moved house to another area of our city
General location: LB, California
Hi all! I need some help here, as I am new to having a cat and not sure what to do.
My husband and I got a street kitten when she was 16 weeks old from a friend (her local stray had a litter). She was spayed in December and recovered well. She has always been great about using the litter box and has only ever peed outside the box once prior, when she peed on some dirty sheets I left piled on the floor. This happened in November, never happened again until now.
On January 23rd we started moving our items from our old house (4 bedrooms, 2 baths, she had a large room to herself) to a new home in another aread of the same city (smaller, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, she does not have her own room). On the 28th on January we moved her to the new home which was filled with our boxed belongings. That day I hate to admit she was in her carrier for probably more than 1 hour as we drove her to the new place.
Since we started settling in, she has been peeing on trash bags, peeing in cardboard boxes that have our items in them, peeing on our clothes and towels that we left laying on the floor, and also still peeing in her box. The urine has been normal color, consistency, and scent (tmi sorry). She is not straining or crying and not showing any other signs of UTI.
Out of an abundance of caution I took her to the vet where they performed a urine test. They took the urine with a needle to her bladder. The tech said she has a really small bladder when she brought her back out. She was fine after the test, and since we cleaned up the house she has been peeing in her box and has not peed anywhere on the floor unless I leave dirty laundry lying around. She pees approximately 4-5 times a day and poops 2x a day.
The vet called me and stated she does not have a UTI but has struvite crystals in her urine, and told me that she will need to eat a special food for the rest of her life. The vet did not specify the concentration of crystals in the urine, but urged me to have her get a radiography now and again in a few months. I will include the urine test result, which I don't really know how to read. This was a Vetco vet who explained this to me.
I am beyond sad for our poor baby girl, and I am wondering if the crystals are causational or just happened by chance. Is there anything I can do to improve her quality of life? Is it possible she is peeing outsdie the box to mark her territory in this new environment? How worried do I need to be? Has anyone been through this before?
More info: She eats a can of the instinct chicken wetfood daily mixed with water till it looks like soup and 1/4-1/2 cup of instinct dry food chicken flavor. She drinks fresh water from a still bowl daily and I see her drink a lot of water every day. I got her a fountain as well hoping it would help her stay healthy and expell the crystals. She gets freezedried chicken treats when we need to trick her into getting her nails trimmed, but nothing other than that. Never any human foods.
Urine test results: Sample taken 2/16, tested 2/17
Color: Dark Yellow
Clarity: Clear
Specific gravity: 1.073
pH: 7
Urine Protien: 1+
Glucose, Ketones, Blood, Bilirubin, Urobilinogen: all negative or normal
White blood cells: 0-2 HPF
Red blood cells: 0-2 HPF
Bacteria: None seen
Epithelial cells: 1+
Mucus and Casts: None seen
Crystals: 1+ ammonium mg phosphate

2023.02.06 20:19 sakura1127 Conflict of interest?
Hello, I currently work for the Vetco vaccination clinics but was thinking about applying for a job at PetSmart since they have one open for a potential pet trainer. I know it would be a conflict of interest if I was a Petco partner, but since I work for Vetco which is purely just a veterinary services company and a company under the Petco corporation branch, would this still be a conflict of interest?

2022.12.28 04:39 Majestic_Pear7594 Signed up for Vetco clinic at checkout?
I went to petco today and this guys at the register asked if I wanted to get 15% off my purchase and I was like what yeah tf and so he said that I had to be a vetco member and I was like I am a member (thinking he just meant pals rewards) and he did computer things and then asked me to follow the instructions on the pad. Did all that cause there was a line and then he gave me a panflet about it and turns out it was a yearly thing but I already have banfield for my cat. Is there a way I can cancel it or do anything about it?

2022.12.22 00:29 MySliceOfLife_103 My ACD was nose to nose with a coyote through our backyard fence, appearing to be playful with each other. What is he at risk of?
Hi everyone, I’m wondering what to do about this. My dog was playing through the fence with a coyote. The fence is a rod iron fence, so there’s lots of space between the bars. Their noses were touching, and then running along the fence with each other.
He’s not up to date on his flea meds, and I tried to get him some afterwards but his vet changed the policy and he needs an exam to get them now. His exam is scheduled for today.
Is he at risk of anything? Like worms or rabies? Is the exam necessary or can he wait to go to the Vetco clinic after the holidays?
We have another dog, and they’ve been separated since this happened on Sunday evening.

2022.11.15 17:54 i-am-not-sure-yet so two questions... with vetco from Petco this plan means the actual vet visit is free ? or included ? just would pay for like vaccines and other stuff right ? second question for the second photo is what is the cost of vaccines typically?
2022.11.09 12:50 Opposite-Carpet3182 Schedule question
Dog trainer here, in my store we have the vetco clinic every other Sunday and they use my dog training area. My GM refuses to give me Sundays off even though I can’t use MY training area for classes on Sundays from 2:30-5:30 so to me it makes no sense for me to work a full shift every single Sunday. In my opinion everyday I’m there I should be 100% open for classes all day. How do I tell them that Sundays should be one of my days off?

2022.11.06 21:59 Heyyrachel I need advice
Hi, I’m going to try to make this as brief as I can. Backstory: I’m a GES and I work very limited hours due to college. My GM is awful and no one in the store likes him. He purposely picks on people and plays favorites and he’s overall awful. So my story begins, on Friday I opened with my GM and it was just him and I until I left at noon. It was a vetco clinic day so it was busy and he leaves me to man the register by myself so I was constantly checking people out. The cricket delivery came in and I normally clean the crickets on Friday. They only get cleaned on tuesdays and Fridays so they’re really gross by Friday when it’s my turn to clean them. I was busy with customers until it was my time to leave and I only got to clean one out of three of the cricket bins. My GM went on break right as I was punching out and didn’t say goodbye to me so I didn’t say anything to him about the crickets. I told the next cashier that I only cleaned one bin and that they’re really gross and need to be cleaned. So the problem comes in now, my GM comes back after I have left and sees that the crickets haven’t been cleaned and blows up about it to my SEL. He says “she told me she finished all of them she fing lied to me that fing piece of s***” and continues to go on swearing calling me awful names to my SEL (who loves me). My SEL backs me up and said I wouldn’t lie about that because it’s pointless and that I was too busy to clean them all. And he just continues to say I lied and that I told him that they were cleaned. I found out about this today and I was so confused and hurt. I knew he didn’t really care for me because that’s the kind of person he is but I didn’t expect him to call me those things and talk crap about me behind my back to another manager. Almost everyone in the store has contacted our district manager and HR about him for some reason or another and I honestly want to take this to HR. I’m just not sure if I have a case because this was second hand information told to me from my SEL. She said she would back me up but it seems like nothing ever gets done about his shitty behavior. Advice is greatly appreciated, thank you for reading this.
Tldr: GM talked crap about me behind my back calling me a piece of s**** and other things. Help

2022.11.05 01:29 universalLau Dog/Puppy Biting out Fur + Ear infection. Allergy or not?
I am moved to post this because I love pups and want to help other pup parents who may be frantically searching reddit for answers/ideas.
At 5 months my GSD mix puppy started scratching/itching/biting out patches of fur on his hind quarters and paws (front and back). He also had a lot of build up in one of his ears which I assumed was an ear infection.
After searching reddit, I landed on allergies. I was feeding him Purina smartblend chicken. He had been eating that since I got him from the rescue. But much of what I read stated that dogs often become allergic to chicken. So I changed his food to Purina Pro (Salmon) for sensitive skin.
I bathed him in allergy shampoo. I came home during my breaks at work to see if it was stress. To no avail. The biting begin to become bad enough to break the skin.
It was time to go to the vet. I'm not made of dog money, but many commercial vets offer free 1st appointments with the hope that you will stick around and spend exorbitant amounts of money with them on pet care. So I took him to Vetco.
I told them what was going on and they suggested a number of treatments. Ear Cytology ($100+). Skin Scrap ($75). Anti-Itch Meds ($65+)...
I told them too, " I am not made of dog money." So the nice vet came out to talk to me and gave me my options. Among other things, it might be demodectic mange. I left spending $20 for a heartworm test. After the negative result, I was able to get Simparica Trio, which protects against mosquitos, heartworms, ticks and also certain types of mange.
2 weeks after giving him Simparica, his itching had subsided. Almost a month later, his hair has grown back and he's a happy pooch. For the ear infection, I bought an over-the-counter ear cleaner and cleaned his ears every couple days. He no longer gets such immense yeast build-up.
I hate to admit this but, before his issues began, I bought a cheap on-sale topical flea treatment. He was not old enough to get a heartworm test/prescription so I was just trying to get by until he was. I knew I wanted him on Simparica (the humane society gave him this before I got him) but I was at the mercy of whichever vet I took him to that month. If I took him to PAWS (a vaccine clinic here in ATL), I had to buy whatever treatment they had until he was old enough to get a heartworm test/prescription.
This was totally my fault but I'm not made of dog money so...you live and you learn. I'm happy he's happy. I hope this helps someone. In the things that I have read, dogs don't usually develop allergies so young. So though his symptoms seemed similar, it makes sense now that allergies were not the cause.
TLDR: Thought 5 month old puppy had allergies because he was biting out his fur. It turned out to be mange cured by Simparica Trio.

2022.10.16 21:22 BrittThatBitch1 What do you guys think about vetco?
I don’t like to support petco for obvious reasons(poor reptile/amphibian/fish husbandry, extremely over priced, etc) but the vet I take my cats to is moving to a bigger building(good for them) that’s about a hour drive from me. I’d love to stay with them but driving two hours there and back really isn’t an option for me. The petco by my house is about a 5 minute drive and has a vetco clinic in it that I was thinking about switching to. The reviews are good and pricing is pretty similar to what I pay for annuals and vaccines now. But my qualm with it are moral. I don’t want to support a company that mistreats animals. What do you guys think?

2022.09.26 19:03 crisprpolarbear Any pet vaccine clinics in Columbus that are affordable?
I have a kitten who needs a distemper booster (I believe it is the FVRCP vaccine). He was at the vet a couple of days ago for a general check up and they decided to hold off on giving it because he has a URI. I called to schedule it, and I will be charged for an office visit on top of the vaccine :/ The vaccine itself is $30, which is fine, but I assume the office visit is going to be expensive given the past visit. Any suggestions? I know most vets require you to be an established patient or have an office visit before giving vaccines. I'll need to go again soon once he is old enough for a Rabies vaccine. I tried searching this sub but came up with nothing. I am thinking of using Petco's Vetco vaccine clinic but can't get a straight answer about the price.

2022.09.07 16:36 onlyyoucareaboutyou Heart murmur?
Took my cat Lily (4 years old, Female, Spayed) to a vetco vaccination clinic (low cost) for her annual shots and the vet assistant there said she noticed a “soft left sided parasternal murmur”. My kitty has never been diagnosed with this at her previous and current primary care vets before. What does this mean? How serious? And who do I take her to - a specialist here or back to her regular vet?
